This book is hard to define as it comes across from the description like a 'self-help' book, but really the book isn't that practical in terms of advice and as other reviews have said there aren't any clear conclusions.

It's a book full on information about the gut and the digestive issues that may appear, even though I had to skip over all the Ayurveda things (which may or may not work, but that) when I realized it's talked about as the best solution. I believe in trial and error, some things that may work with some people may not work with others. The people who are new to all the stuff about the gut and its issues will find the book useful.

A very informative book about out gut and what could possible be happening there. It talks about Irritable bowel syndrome and small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO). It also explains about the digestive system (explains about each organ), talks about stress, exercise, sleep, inflammation, micro plastic, immune system, leaky gut, natural chemicals, dietary restrictions, fiber, dairy, gluten and different types of diets. I received a free digital copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review

Thank you for allowing me to read and review this brilliant book. All opinions expressed are my own. I'm really impressed with this book. I'm a coeliac with other autoimmune diagnoses and have recently been advised that I may have SIBO. Knowing very little about it, this book has now drastically increased my knowledge and I don't feel so overwhelmed anymore.

Aesthetically, the cover is a lovely colour and very eye catching. It was the first thing that drew me in so I think it will be great on the shelf!

Thank you again, from a happy reader!

Ada Peters has suffered with a dysfunctional gut all of her life, thinking that this was perfectly normal, but as she grew older, married and had her family, she began to think that not everything that was happening to her was based around the effects of childbearing on the body.
Depression, mood swings, bloating and general feelings of malaise were not ‘normal’ and on the advice of her Doctor she set out on a journey to try and come to terms with her many and varied health issues.
In My Gut: How to overcome IBS, SIBO and other digestive issues she shares her medical journey which has gone on from natural therapies, a vast range of medical testing and consultations, dietary reforms and then back on the medical-go-round for more testing, changes of both diet and lifestyle, often too little or no avail. Often, what appeared to be a long term positive result, turned out to be a short term fix.
The sheer frustration of moving from feeling great to feeling terrible finally saw her begin to investigate the gut and what causes all the many issues grouped under Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth, Coeliac Disease and so many more conditions, most of which she has been diagnosed with at one stage in her life.
Her findings have resulted in My Gut: How to overcome IBS, SIBO and other digestive issues, which is an absolute goldmine of information for anyone who suffers for any sort of bowel or gut condition. While it is based on her research, backed up by medical resources, Ada Peters in no way states this is an absolute be all and end all book. She advocates that you undertake your own research, work out the best avenue to follow and take it in small steps.
As the Gut or Gut health is now taking some prominence in the field of Medical Research, scientists are discovering the Gut has a massive impact on the entire body and if it is not in good health many of the vague and not so vague symptoms of ill health can be traced directly back to poor performance by the gut.
For anyone who has gut based health issue My Gut: How to overcome IBS, SIBO and other digestive issues should be considered as a must read as it aids understanding of the how, why and what you need to know, that no one ever tells you.

This book offers such an interesting and detailed discussion on gut health, food intolerances and the treatments available. The author is incredibly knowledgeable and the results of her research into IBS, SIBO and other digestive related conditions is fascinating.

Unfortunately there are no clear conclusions as the field of study is relatively young and different people react differently to different treatments.

I’ve made notes on various things to look into more though and would highly recommend this book to anyone else on a similar journey.

This book is bursting with information, and whilst there is never a guarantee that any method, treatment or eating plan detailed here will work ,the book is really helpful in providing different options. Really good for those who want to learn about gut issues and available treatment options, this is a great starting point for those recently diagnosed or trying to figure it out themselves (although always see a doctor)

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I really like the writing style of the author, they can phrase things really simply and clearly. I'm in no position to assess the veracity of the science, so take that with a grain of salt. I really appreciated the authors personal insights on their eating and digestive journey. I loved the message of becoming closer to our bodies, I can vouch for just how important and helpful that is to improving the quality of your life. I certainly learnt a lot of interesting and useful things from this book.

3.5 ⭐️

I want to preface this review just to say that I suffer severely from a number of gastrointestinal issues, and they are often connected. So I already know a lot about gastrointestinal diseases. But this book, My Gut, gave me some fresh information. This guidebook hopes to give the reader more control, more agency, and more options.

A lot of information is covered in subjects such as IBS, SIBO, how the food we each interacts with our digestive system, an overview of treatments, and how these gut issues can effect your mental health.

The author herself has struggled with GI issues so she was very thorough and knew what information a patient might need. The end of each chapter provides a summary of the concepts from that chapter, important points to remember.

I especially appreciated the author’s philosophy around food and the mind-body connection. Although some diets are explained in this book, they are not for weight loss but symptom management. Peters even noted that if you are underweight it’s important to check with your doctor or nutritionist to ensure you’re taking in enough calories. I especially resonated with the part about dietary stress and the dangers of diet culture, eating disorders, and labeling foods “good” or “bad.” The author explains that those disordered thoughts and behaviors around food create a resistance which impairs digestion. Dieting literally hurts your digestive system!

I also was impressed by Peters’ emphasis on developing a close relationship with your body. She says, “The body is in constant communication with us, but we so not understand its language” (p.46)

While this book did not address all my issues (I have Gastroparesis) it did explain common digestive disorders, dysfunction that you may not even know you have and that is the cause of some frustrating symptoms.

Thanks to NetGalley, Wild Peach Press, and Ada J Peters for the opportunity to read and review this book.

This was such an eye opening and informative book. I recently took the hydrogen breath test to see if I have SIBO and am waiting for results. This book definitely helped me with my understanding of all things gut related!

First of all, don’t make the mistake I did of thinking there is an easy answer to My Gut issues. There isn’t one within this book or any single source.

This book first delves into a detailed explanation of what is happening in your gut to cause your disease. It specifically states that self-diagnosis frequently results in both incorrect diagnosis and treatment. It strongly recommends seeing a doctor and/or nutritionist that specializes in gut health. Despite that warning it continues with a well-researched meta-analysis of current treatments for IBS, SIBO, and other gut issues. However, I wasn’t very impressed that most of the suggestions in this book come at a high cost or are for tests/apps/websites with pay walls.

Overall, I found this book overwhelming. It is bursting with information but, unfortunately, has few conclusions. It appears that the author found Ayurveda, an ancient Indian mind-body treatment, the most helpful in her particular case. But there is no guarantee that that method or any treatment or diet referenced in the book will work for your individual gut. My Gut is very disappointed right now but again my expectations were too high. If you would just like to know more about gut issues and current treatments, this is a good beginning point but don’t expect riveting reading. 3 stars.

Thanks to Wild Peach Press and NetGalley for a digital review copy of the book.

My Gut was an extremely thorough, yet easy to follow book about the gut and ways to restore its health. The author, Ada Peters, suffered with significant digestive issues herself and it was refreshing to read this knowledge from the point of view of someone who’s been there.
Along with a lesson on the parts and functions of the gut, there is a comprehensive walk through the numerous methods of healing. I’ve read a lot about the digestive system, and this is the one book that included all of these methods together without an agenda. I found myself bookmarking and highlighting information to return to later.
The one complaint I have is the flip-flop between ideas on dietary restrictions. While in one chapter she states that diet restriction is scientifically falling out of favor (it’s proving to be more harmful than helpful), she finishes the chapter by recommending restrictions. This seemed inconsistent and confusing.
Other than this one gaff, I highly recommend this book for anyone wanting to learn more in general, and/or to aid themselves with gut issues.
Thank you to NetGalley, Wild Peach Press Pty Ltd, and Ada J Peters for allowing access to a digital ARC in exchange for review.

In a diet and fitness centered culture, it is easy to go to any internet site and look up health, diets, and abnormal symptoms. What is often returned are opinions. There is an opinion for every question out there. What then piqued my curiosity with My Gut? Having experienced an unexpected illness that destroyed my gut biome, I am curious to hear the journey and learned experiences of others who have walked in these shoes. Ada Peters writes from her own experiences, but she is well informed and knows that it is not a one-size-fits-all answer. I like the variety of her discussions, resources, and tools. The discussions are not over complicated and easy to follow along with.
I received a complimentary copy from the publisher via NetGalley and all opinions expressed are solely my own, freely given.

This book is incredibly helpful for people - like me - who have gastrointestinal problems such as IBS, SIBO or food intolerances. The author explains step by step how our digestive system works and how we digest food. At the end of the book the readers will find some very useful diets. Highly recommended !!!
