Really tried to start this book multiple times but could not get into it the storyline enough to enjoy it.

I listened to an audiobook of Gigi, Listening. Unfortunately, I found it hard to follow and ended up DNF'ing the story before the halfway mark.

Gigi has fallen in love with the voice of the narrator of her favorite romance book, and now she has an opportunity to go on a tour where he will be the guide. But when she arrives, he's not there, the tour is full of wildly different people, and she keeps clashing with the bus driver.

I got a little frustrated with how long it took Gigi to let go of the romantic future she's imagined and see the romance right in front of her, but overall I really enjoyed the cast of characters on the tour.

I thought this was particularly fun to listen to as an audiobook, and I loved how the narrator handled Zane's voice.

So I was really excited about this one. It sounded fun and interesting and I was so excited when it popped up NetGalley. Unfortunately it didn’t live up to my excitement. While I was intrigued about a woman falling for a man’s voice from an audiobook the obsession was really hardcore and it honestly put me off a lot. It’s just beaten into the book so much that I think it’s too much. We get it, she’s on the trip for him. Stop already.

I had previously reviewed the ebook and this was my review:
3.5 stars
Thank you to Netgally and the publisher for providing me with this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This book has a lot of things I love- roadtrip/ travel book, closed door romance, a girl who is feeling a little lost and a little over it, I also like it when a book that describes itself as a rom com actually has funny bits. So good job, Chantel Guertin!
That being said, there were a lot of parts that left a bit predictable and cliche, so this didn't completely blow me away.

I also got a chance to review the audiobook and I would like to add to that review that the narration of the audiobook is really good and animated. I found the voice for the friend a bit over the top and high pitched for my liking but overall, I enjoyed the narration and would recommend the audiobook.

“You’re not broken, you just made a beautiful scar”

What an incredible audiobook to start my 2024! This was an absolute ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ read for me.

I love a dual POV romance read - and even better when the narrators are great like this one! Also, a childhood crush is one of my favorite tropes.

What makes this one stand out? It’s not often you get an evil ex for the male lead. Or a story written about two normal sized bodies (🙌🏻). Plus, the way Cara Tanamachi wrote the Sora’s mother is perfection.

Thank you to Cara Tanamachi, RB Media, and Netgalley for the ARC!

From the blurb alone - this is the perfect book for me. An audiobook lover who owns a romance bookstore goes on a trip abroad to meet her favorite audiobook narrator?! What could be better!

Well - it honestly fell flat for me. This is more of a women’s fiction book than romance. The romance is painfully slow. It was more about the FMC finding herself - and letting go of her past.

What I did appreciate was the author’s mentions of other romance books and authors - what fun Easter eggs.

The narration was great, but the plot was just so-so. Nothing I’d recommend or reread.

I probably requested this because Gigi owns a romance bookstore, and we all know by now I live and die for The Ripped Bodice. Long known as a Los Angeles staple, there is now a location in Brooklyn.

Gigi has a favorite audiobook, and is convinced the narrator, Zane, is her soulmate. She books a ten day bus tour through the English countryside when she finds out he is leading the tour. Uh oh. This ends up being as disastrous as you can imagine, but the real heart of the story is the friends she makes along the way.

Thank you to Goodreads, NetGalley, and the publisher.

This was a fun read! It’s a really cute concept, although it definitely crosses from cute to creepy occasionally. The audiobook was well narrated and I enjoyed the cast of characters.

3 stars.

"Gigi, Listening" by Chantel Guertin is a decent rom-com, but it's not the best book I've read this year. The main female character, Gigi, a bookshop owner, is gifted a guided bus tour across England by her three friends so she can meet the man of her dreams: a man named Zane, who narrated the audiobook version of the book her parents were reading when they first met and fell in love. Seems wild and wacky to make a trip across the world for someone you've never met and someone who doesn't know you exist, right? Some may call this cute, but...is it cute when it's essentially stalking?! If you can suspend your disbelief (or your morals) for the premise and just enjoy the book for its "guided reading trip adventure," you may find some enjoyment here. Guertin's descriptions of England are where this book shines. I felt like I was sitting on a guided tour right alongside Gigi and all of her interesting, unique bus mates! The trip aspects are the strongest elements, as are said bus mates. What a compelling, intriguing group of people to be on a tour with! They all meddle in each other's lives for 10 days and get to know one another in an intimate way. We connect with them and learn each of their struggles as the tour days tick by. Unfortunately, Gigi is not that great of a character. She has a lot of growing up to do as a person. She's incredibly immature and selfish, especially where her brother, Lars, is concerned. She seems obsessed with Zane who is not a celebrity, but rather just a regular ol' guy who happened to narrate an audiobook. To fly around the globe to meet someone you don't know because of some misguided cosmic connection is ludicrous. I knew where this story was going as soon as Zane showed up half of the way into the bus tour. It's super predictable. The romance and chemistry are essentially non-existent until maybe the last 10% or so. Some readers may call this a slow-burn, but I'd call it a no-burn meaning that it's slow PLUS nothing really happens in the end.

Natalie Naudus does a fantastic job narrating this book. She does some terrific voices to differentiate between characters, and her inflections and tones are perfect for the source material. It is her narration that kept me interested and invested in finishing this story, otherwise, I may have stopped reading it without the audiobook version.

Thank you to NetGalley, Chantel Guertin, Kensington Books, and RB Media for the ARC/ALC of this book. All opinions are my own. I was not compensated for my review.

Cute rom com about opening your mind to all the possibilities of love. A girl who’s parents have a love story for the ages, looses them in an instance and is just stuck in grief and an audiobook narrator creates a new story for her.

There are laugh out loud moments and swoon worthy moments too. Love all the shout outs to other writers.

The narration was excellent.

I, unfortunately, didn’t finish Gigi, Listening. I couldn’t fully immerse myself in this book, but I believe it had less to do with the story/characters and more with the fact that it was the audiobook version. I love the synopsis and am still interested in finishing this cute romance, preferably in paperback format!

3.5 stars!

All I needed to know about GIGI, LISTENING before I read this, was that it featured a woman who owns a bookstore, and the cover was the cutest, including an audiobook too, which I’m obsessed with.

The narration was a great choice and I felt so connected to the story in this format.

*many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for the gifted copy for review

This was super cute! I loved Gigi and the love that she and her friends shared. Her friends surprise her with a bus tour led by an audiobook narrator. Only, he’s not there when she arrives. She meets Taj on the trip, and he piques her interest until Zane arrives. The cast of characters on the bus trip was just darling - and I cared more for them than I would have anticipated. Not overly sexy, but very sweet.

Excellent narration… which was important, especially for this audiobook bibliophile and given the nature of the story!

ive been looking forward to this one for a while and it did not let me down. I loved Gigi and all of her antics. I highly recommend for a cute funny read.

This was ok. The plot had a few nice moments, most of them describing England. Gigi was unlikable and immature. I never connected with her as a character or her motives.
