This is book 3 of the Black Harbour chronicles but I read it as a stand alone and it could easily be such!! I realize if I’d read the first two it would probably have more character building and a better understanding of the past but it explains everything I need to know.

What I loved:
- I love the different tones and styles of writing used for all 3 POV characters. It not only helps build their character but helps separate their parts of the story so easily.
- The story leads you down so many different potential suspect paths that you think you know whodunnit and then question all of your judgment!
- It was suspenseful, unhinged, and I liked how it all came together at the end.

What I wasn’t fond of:
- At times the book felt really repetitive. At one point I was asking myself if I’d read this part already?! (Hint: I didn’t)
- When we found out who the killer was, I was shocked! Which is great, but mostly: where did this person come from? Did I miss something in the first 2 books where this person was mentioned more and didn’t just come out of the blue?

I would recommend this for people who like small town murder mysteries on more of the YA side (minus the small spicy scene that I actually really liked and fit perfectly in the story.) It’s also being published on Halloween and has awesome small town spooky vibes!

Well Hannah … you did it again! Another five star review in my books. One of the reasons I love the Black Harbor series is because the storylines are like no other. When you read a lot of crime fiction or thrillers you tend to get repeat plots and that is not the case with these books. Unique and gripping I had a hard time putting this one down. Hannah Morrisey is a new author to me. With that being said, I'm invested in this series now. If you're looking for an easy read then this isn't it. This murder mystery will keep you invested, guessing, and wondering what will happen next. If you're looking for a book to get lost in and Keto you busy then this is it. When I'm Dead is told from multiple pov's. I enjoy seeing both sides of the coin so to speak. I know some people hate it. A medical examiner
mystery and thriller. I have seen someone recommend for a YA but keep in mind there a some graphic murder scene and sex scenes as well. I plan on going back and reading the cutest 2 books on this series now.

l was hooked on Hannah Morrissey after her first book she was immediately added to my “instant read” / I’ll read whatever she writes list ! This is yet another dark and twisted journey that will keep you guessing and keep you on your toes ! It also highlights two FACTS I live by which I’ve shared here and also made my fear of chiropractic care worse lol “just a snap!” Aka my worse fear ! If you like dark and twisted , crime thrillers , murder mystery I would highly recommend you give the black harbor series a read

This is book number three of a series. I highly suggest you read the first two books because they help to explain black Harbor Michigan.. I read this on a rainy day which made it more thrilling!

I really enjoyed this novel, it was written from three of the characters perspectives which I liked, the characters were well developed and likeable, had good personalities. The plot was good, well developed, kept you guessing.

Rowen and Axel's daughter is missing after a high-school play. They had to leave early to deal with a murder in the area. Rowen messaged a friend to ask that she see her daughter got home, but the message didn't send. Now they are not only solving a murder but searching for their missing daughter

This is the first of Hannah's books that I have read, looks like it is book #3 of the Black Harbor series but I read as a stand alone. I will happily read more of the series and her novels

This was my first read by Hannah M and it's cover was creepy as the story. I am glad I gave it a shot and learned it was part of a series.

The third installment of Hannah Morrissey’s Black Harbor book opened with a bang. Medical examiner Rowan is called to a crime scene which ends up being her daughter’s best friend. A few hours later, Rowan learns her daughter Chloe, is missing. Thinking she’s been kidnapped, Rowan’s world turns upside down when clues point to Chloe possibly being involved in the murder. This book had me clutching my pearls by chapter 8. I loved the twists and turns, and devoured it in one sitting.

For me a slow start but I'm glad I stayed with it and gave a chance (normally if you don't have me within a page or two it's all over).. A very well written crime novel. Quite fantastic descriptions of people, places and things.. It does, for me, get a little slow here and there but only for a bit before you're pulled back in to story line. Well developed characters and plot. I think what separates this from other crime fiction is how well she describes things and the added incidents that really have no bearing on the crime(s) that occurred.

This series continues to get better and better. I really like all the different characters that you meet through the different mysteries. I like that they are not direct sequels but more different episodes in the same community.

This is a good mystery, with lots of different diversions that keep you guessing. Black Harbor continues to be horrible and grim but peopled by interesting characters.

I look forward to the next book in the series and I find myself trying to guess which side character from this book will be the main character of the next!

This was my other most anticipated read of the year, and this one did not disappoint either.  I love Hannah Morrissey, and I love her writing style.  The intricate details she provides make you feel like you're right there in Black Harbor!  When I'm Dead is the 3rd book in her Black Harbor series, but it can be read as a standalone.  I, however, would recommend reading the whole series.  All 3 books are incredible!

This brilliantly written gritty, atomspheric thriller will have you turning pages into the wee hours of the night!  Full of murder, mystery, and suspense, you won't be able to put it down!  I highly recommend picking this one up on Halloween 🎃 And if you haven't read the first 2 books, you'll have plenty of time to😊

I tried to like this one but it just wasn't for me. There were just a few weird things like the dad investigating his daughter's friend's murder and then searching for his daughter in a professional matter. I know even in tiny towns they wouldn't have someone so close to the case.
The end was good though. I am glad I read it.

This was a good book. 3 stars because it took me sooooo long to finish it. It wasn’t bad but it wasn’t perfect. I felt like the whole time it put too much detail into little things but I was glad I couldn’t figure out who did it until the end.

This is new to me author but this was a good book and a fast paced mystery that kept me guessing. The mother in the book was experiencing her worst nightmare . It was a good book and will read more by this author.

This Morrissey's third book set in Black Harbor, Wisconsin. Rowan Winthorp is the Medical Examiner and is called to a murder scene only to discover the body is her teenage daughter's best friend -- and now her daughter is missing.

I loved that Morrissey brought Detective Kole back into the picture - hot damn I loved him in Hello, Transcriber. I don't know that this one will stick with me as much as her first two books, but I will happily - ravenously - read anything she ever writes and hope there are more Black Harbor stories coming. Reading this is a no-brainer for anyone who enjoyed her previous novels, but it could very easily work as a standalone for new readers.

I tried so hard to like this book. I am a sucker for procedurals, so I went in fully expecting to enjoy it. But I just couldn't find myself caring about the characters or having any emotional connection. The plot line wasn't even remotely realistic. What police department is going to let a guy stay on the case when his daughter is missing and suspected of being the killer? The only saving grace for this book was the ending. The last 50 or so pages did pick up and were more interesting, even though I guessed half of the plot twist at the beginning of the book. You can tell the planning is there, but the execution left a lot to be desired.

This author is exceeded my expectations with a law enforcement based thriller murder mystery. Great book. Would’ve done some more foreshadowing but I like how it turned out

This was the first book I read in the Black Harbor series, although it is the second in that series. Not having read the first, I don't know what I am missing, but I feel that this book does stand alone well. This thriller takes place in the eerie town of Black Harbor, where things are bleak and crime rates are high. When young girls from the local school mysteriously turn up dead, and another one is missing, everyone in town is working together trying to crack the case. Our main characters, Rowan and Axel Winthrop are the parents of Chloe, the missing girl, and also happen to be a medical examiner and a detective, respectively. As everyone begins to learn more about the murders, each character unearths new truths, lies, and secrets within their own lives. I definitely recommend all my thriller loves check out this book when it's published on Halloween this year!

Even though the twist at the end was unexpected it felt like it came out of left field. Just kind of thrown in there. Almost like the PLL twist at the end of the series.

The book was decent. It somewhat kept my attention. I wanted to know if Chloe was dead or alive and who killed who. But not as much drama as I was anticipating.

It’s a night of fun and entertainment for a high school play. The lead has lost herself in getting prepared for months. Then her parents are called away. They work for the city police and medical examiner. Death calls to them, leaving their daughter behind among all her friends. The death that calls them is a schoolmate of their daughters and lives in their neighborhood. It’s not a pretty death. Then their daughter turns up missing. How is she involved? Is she a victim? She once told her mother that her job always took precedent. Her mother would only care when she was dead. Had it been a premonition?

Hannah Morrissey takes the reader not just into a mystery but into a family and a community. Families aren’t perfect, and things can get tough as families go through each day. In this story, the reader is taken into homes and relationships as each character faces the fact that a killer is in their community and could be coming after them next. Yes, there is a killer but the story goes into the souls of several characters who are more important to the story than they realize.

The story moves from different points of view: the mother of the missing girl, the father, and a neighbor. By revealing the story through three different sets of eyes, the author draws the reader deep within their lives and exposes their innermost emotions which are crucial to their actions and words. It also helps in leading the reader to specific conclusions though they might not all be legit. I found myself trying to guess who the killer really was and figured out just sentences before the killer was revealed. Very frustrating but in a pleasing way. Mysteries that can keep me guessing are the best kind.

An entertaining read that will have you invested in the characters and the events. I felt as though I was part of the Black Harbor community and feeling the pain of the residents as they watched death creep up on the innocents. If you like mysteries that are more than just a who-dun-it but give the readers characters to invest in, this is a story you need to check out. Entertaining and intense at the same time.
