This book broke my heart and put it back together.

Gordo is the son of the Bennett Pack witch and is raised near the pack to the point where he was held down for magic to be tattooed directly onto his skin as a child. After Gordo’s father goes off the rails, he’s basically abandoned while the pack moves on without him. His mate, Mark, leaves with the rest of the pack and finds Gordo is not the same when he comes back.

Years go by and the simmering resentment Gordo has never really goes away. All of a sudden Mark and the pack are back and he’s tasked with helping the pack that turned their backs on him when he was vulnerable. It is not a seamless process to get back on the same page especially when he leaves with Joe for a few years tracking the big bad in book 1. He never truly resolved things with Mark and my god, my heart for these two.

Then a face from the past shows up and puts everyone and the city of Green Creek in danger. I listened to this book and when I say my heart was pumping, I’m not lying. This scene was horrifying and excellent.

This book sets up the remainder of the series and man, I just can’t recommend the whole thing enough. The highs are high and the lows freaking hurt.

Thank you to Tor and Netgalley for a copy of the updated copy in exchange for an honest review. My opinions are my own.
