Obviously it was sheer outrage at the title which led me to request this from Netgalley, especially when he looked like he'd been so happy there on the cover with his books. Fortunately, this turns out just to be something mean people tell him, and by the end he's happily set up with a library card, the whole thing having been bait and switch for a heartwarming tale of how both bears and libraries are lovely.

Bear was a happy bear until he found a book and the new world opened to him made him want more.

Eventually a kind librarian helps access all the books he could want.

I love books and love to see anyone else love books, even bears. It’s a great story about how much more we can learn about the world and each other through books. And about how awesome librarians are.

I think a lot of kids can enjoy this story of a bear that just wants to read. I love that the theme of the book is that books and reading are for everyone. Bear developed a love for reading and needed more books. He went out on a journey to make that happen. The poor bear had a lot of people tell him that he couldn't have books because he was a bear. One caring librarian made sure that he had all that he needed.

It teaches an important lesson that everyone who wants to do something should be allowed to do it.

After bear finds a book in the forest and falls in love with reading, he goes in search of more books. Bear is turned away from various places and right when he's about to give up, he is warmly welcomed into the library. Such a great story about books and libraries, and how they are both for everyone.

Never ever deny a very promising reader!

A little bear gets denied when he tries his best to learn reading and be with the reading community. Until he gets welcomed by a very welcoming teacher!

I love the concept. I love the illustrations.

I could relate to this book as I was denied a lot when it comes to reading books when I was a kid.

Thank you, Capstone, for the advance reading copy.

What happens when a bear finds a book and learns how to read? He wants to read more, of course!
This is a brilliant little book about discovering the love for reading. It is perfect for when our children are themselves having their first contact with books, taking their little hands and guiding them directly to the magical place that is a library.
With very cute illustrations and a message that hits every bookworm heart spot on, this is a definitely recommendation!

Love this book! A bear who falls in love with reading, goes on an adventure to find more books but is continually told no, until he discovers the wonders of a library. He then brings books back to share with his friends (but makes sure to tell them he has to have them returned in 3 weeks!). It’s never to early to teach children the joy in reading and that reading is for everyone - this book does a fantastic job with this message.

I can’t wait to add this to my kids personal library.

Thank you to NetGalley and Capstone for this advanced reader copy.

Super cute book. My daughter felt sad for bear when he was getting turned away but she loved the ending and seeing him happy. Such a great story.

Thank you NetGalley, the author and the publisher for my ARC!

This was such a precious book that celebrates the joy of reading and the importance of libraries! Bear finds a book in the forest and Owl teaches him how to read. On a trek into the city to return a child's bike and to find more books, Bear is met with disdain from the school and the bookshop and is told that "Books aren't for bears!" Distraught, Bear begins his trek home, but stumbles upon the public library, and, like the librarian says in the book, "reading is for everyone!" Libraries are safe spaces for ALL readers and have something for everyone. As a librarian, this book made my heart melt a little bit. The illustrations are vivid, and detailed and fit perfectly with the hopeful, joyful theme of the story. I love that in the end Bear is able to share his love of reading with his other forest friends.

This was such a sweet book. A story of a bear that experiences a book for the first time and now wants to read all the books he can find.

This story does a good job spreading the word that reading should be for all. Books are something that anyone should have access to. Libraries help provide this access.

The illustrations of this book are bright and nicely detailed.

I would recommend this book for preschoolers and young elementary.

Thank you to NetGalley and Capstone for this advanced reader copy.

I will be posting my review to my Instagram page the.littlest.booknook and retail sites close or on publication.

This one is super cute and the perfect ode to libraries! I think my kids in speech therapy will enjoy it. There is some interaction and repetition, which is perfect for therapy. Also, it has themes of inclusion which is also perfect for social skills therapy.
