I love this series. When I heard shebwas coming out with it from the piont of view of bones, I couldn't wait. It was interesting to see things from his point of view. How he went about everything and how cat changed his life.
The narrator is exactly how I imagine bones would sound.
I received a copy all opinions are my own
Absolutely fantastic book told from Bones’ POV. I love this series and reading it from a different perspective is so fun and refreshing. Jeaniene did a wonderful job and I hope she’ll write the rest!
I am really enjoying rereading this series but from Bones point of view. Even though I know how the story plays out seeing it through fresh eyes feels like your reading something new.
I received an arc of this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own
I knew it. I just knew it. When my little ‘spidey senses’ start tingling even before I open a book merely from reading the first few lines of the blurb I just know it is time to put some comfortable pants on and get ready for a wild ride. This book blew my mind, everything I thought I’d find in it infinitely better than I first expected, and every page revealing a new, exciting layer to a story that I could not have even conjured in my wildest dreams. Flawlessly written, perfectly paced, this book was utterly irresistible to me. So loved and enjoyed reading it.
I envy anyone that is new to the Night Huntress universe!
I’ve been reading Jeaniene Frost’s books since 2008. My reaction to Frost writing her most popular series from Bones’ perspective was similar to that of people who got tickets to Swift’s Era’s Tour. You could say that my fangirl reaction was a little more than ecstatic.
Both Feet in the Grave is the second book that is told from Bones’ POV. While some modern technology advancement has been thrown into the story, the rest of it remains true to the original we’ve read from Kat in One Foot in the Grave. I remember feeling agony over how much time we spent with Kat alone before Bones coming back on the scene. Thankfully, in Both Feet in the Grave, Bones keeps us thoroughly entertained. I love his confident air that he carries in a totally deserving way. Real men aren’t faking that sort of confidence. I say “real” like he’s not a fictional master vampire.
Years ago when reading One Foot in the Grave, I knew Kat was an idiot for running away from Bones. Sure, she believed she was protecting him. I knew she was being dumb and that fueled my anxiety while waiting for his grand entrance (and GRAND it sure was). It was more peaceful reading Both Feet in the Grave. I was able to appreciate his feelings of loss and insecurity surrounding Kat. Over time he’s doubting that Kat loved him at all. In this, we see a soft side to Bones that even Kat doesn’t fully understand. If I didn’t love Bones before… ya, he’s my book boyfriend.
Could you read this book if you’ve never read any others in the series?
The simple answer is “yes, but why?” If you love sexy vamps with such strong supernatural powers that you can feel it like a vibration against your skin, you should read this series. I’m confident that anyone who picks up Both Feet in the Grave would be compelled to grab ALL of the books in this universe.
I was honored to interview Jeaniene Frost about her first book in Bones’ POV, The Other Half of the Grave. You can read the full interview here.
I have been provided with a review copy of Both Feet in the Grave from NetGalley for an impartial review. Oh my gosh this story was just epic. I just couldn’t put this story down and I was just captivated by everything that was taking place. The author truly outdid herself with this story. This story just had my emotions all over the place and I am so sad to see this book end. I just can’t wait to see what’s next from this author.
Jeanine Frost was one of my first paranormal romance authors. She opened the world to me and the fact she's rewriting the series in Bones' POV is amazing!
Absolutely love this series and reading it all through Bones’ perspective has been so refreshing.
I never thought I could love Bones more, but apparently I really could! I want him!
Beautiful. Steamy. Passionate. Loving.
Jeaniene Frost is rewriting her Night Huntress series from Bones’ point of view! Both Feet in the Grave is the retelling of the second book, One Foot in the Grave and it is an incredible gift from the author! And I cannot think of a more brilliant idea than this!
Bones has been alive more than 220 years and a vampire just as long. He’s got so many relationships and connections going on that it’s just awesome to see and to learn what makes the sexy vampire who he is.
We get behind-the-scenes footage of many of our favorite and/or perplexing scenes of Book 2 from Bones’ point of view! Can you imagine? What was Bones thinking when he met Randy for the first time? Or what about the infamous Chapter 32 scene? Oh yeah, it’s in there!
Seeing Bones' love and devotion for Cat is so beautiful and so moving. But seeing his despair and desolation at not being able to find her for so many years just tears your heart out of your chest. I am completely wrung out from so many feels! If you are not already head over heels in love with Bones, you will be after Both Feet in the Grave!
There are also answers to questions that I never realized I had until I read the book! There are so many good and wonderful and bewildering gifts in the pages and so much more are in store for readers! Read the book! Please!
Both Feet in the Grave is everything you hope it will be and so much more! I highly recommend this and EVERY book in Ms. Frost’s Night Huntress World!
A must read for any Cat and Bones fan. Frost gives the reader what they want in this revisit to the Night Huntress world through Bones' point of view. It is the perfect companion piece to the series, and I would be remiss if I didn't say how much I would enjoy getting to read the rest of the series through Bones' eyes.
These books are EVERYTHING! I’m far enough away from my initial read of the series that I’ve pretty much forgotten most of the key points, so this new POV (Bones instead of Cat) is wonderful!
This book takes place in the time after Cat abandoned Bones (for “his own good”) and up until the end of the Ian/Bones drama (or first drama? Ian loves drama so it’s hard to put a number on it). It was great to see the Cat/Bones reveal at the wedding, their reigniting love affair, Cat’s team come into play, and all the little tid bits here and there. I also forgot about the secrets and twists so that was really fun to go through all over again.
So - where do I recommend reading this? After some discussion at book club, I think I’d say you should do this in the order recommended - go through the series, take all the parallel paths of the spin-off series that evolve from there, then come back here to go back to where it all started. Since the author updated the technology it’s really like a fresh world, so it works best here. I am loving this trip down memory lane as a new way to re-read the series withe new info and fun background information that you never got originally. Love it!
Jeaniene Frost can write compelling, gripping and highly entertaining paranormal romances. This is not the first in this series and it can be a bit confusing if you didn't read the next of the series.
I enjoyed it and it's recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher for this arc, all opinions are mine
Both Feet in the Grave by Jeaniene Frost is Bones' POV of One Feet in the Grave.
Being back in the Night Huntress World is always such a wonderful experience!
So Bones and Cat were separated for like 4 years... a lot has changed. Cat changed and Bones too.
But... their feelings for one another haven't, or have they?!
Well if you know One Feet in the Grave you know the story... but experiencing it from Bones' POV is like you're rereading a brilliant story, but also more like a new one too.
I'm not sure this makes any sense to you... but for me it does.
I absolutely love Cat and Bones! They're one of my favourite couples and that will never change! For sure!
Their story is full of chemistry, adventures, humour, drama and suspense!
What's there not to love about?!
I devoured and really really loved it! ❤️
Thank you so much to Jeaniene Frost and NYLA Publishing for this ARC via NetGalley.
This is my honest review in my own words.
Sorry for the delay.
This was a wonderful read that gave you a look at everything that has happened through the eyes of Bones. It takes you through what happened and what he went through while searching for Cat for four years. Whether he has hardened his heart to the love he once felt for Cat and if he is willing to risk his heart again or is it to late for the pair. It was definitely something I didn't know I needed (Bones point of view) but loved every minute of getting to know him better. I remembered why I.became a fan of the two characters and hope there is more to come for them in the future.
Both Feet in the grave is the 9th book of the Night Huntress Series by Jeaniene Frost. It follows the events of the second book of the series, but this time from Bone's perspective.
After Cat disappears from Bone's life to protect him from a secret government agency; Bones spends the next four years looking for her. Once he gets his hands on her, she's going to have a lot of explaining to do.
I love that Frost is re-doing this series from the perspective of Bones. I hope she does the rest of the books. I think they might even be better from his perspective. It's funny and captivating and just a really great read. It sucks you in. It took me less than 24 hours to read it. I enjoyed the extra details from Bone's perspective and his internal dialogue. I found Cat to be a bit more annoying from his perspective but it wasn't all the time and it didn't ruin anything.
I would recommend this book to Night Huntress fans and those that are into vampire romance books. People who were team Spike and Buffy will love it. Anyone that's into comedy/horror.
Both Feet in the Grave, by author Jeaniene Frost, is the 9th installment in the authors Night Huntress series. Both Feet in the Grave revisits the book 2 of the series (One Foot in the Grave) but this time shows the story from Bones’ POV. The unfortunate part for me in reading this novel, that it has been a very long time since I read this series. I didn't read The Other Half of the Grave, nor did I read Up From the Grave which was released almost 10 years ago! Here is what I do know. This book is told from the narrative of bones who has spent years trying to catch up to Cat Crawford.
As the story opens, there is a huge bounty on the Red Reaper, aka Cat Crawford. Two hundred years of bounty hunting made Bones the best at what he does, yet it's still taken him four long years to find Cat, the half vampire now known as the "Red Reaper." There's a price on Cat's head, and not even her job as a secret government agent can save her. Only Bones can. But has time hardened Bones too much to love again? Or will his passion for Cat burn through every obstacle—alive, undead, or otherwise—between them?
Bones is less patient in some ways and wants Cat to admit her feelings and the truth. He pushes her more after their separation but he still lets her make her own choices, no matter how hard it is for him. He is furious with Ian and Annette who try to spoil things with her.
There were funny times in this book, don’t get me wrong, but there is also a whole lot of smexy romance that the author is infamous for. Reading a novel from Bone's perspective is a treat for those who have read this series from the start. You get a little reminder of Cat's friendship with Denise as well as her marriage to Randy. And, let's not forget about the time that Cat was working for the government and had her own team but was still a target for Ian, who wanted her for himself.
Review copy was received from NetGalley. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
Let me start by saying that you absolutely need to read the Night Huntress books in order, don't start with this one!! This is One Foot in the Grave but told from Bones' point of view, and y'all-I am here for it!! I loved being able to get his feelings and takes on how things play out, and just how he felt when Cat left. My only drawback? I wish we had seen more than what is shown about what Bones did during the 4 years that Cat was not with him. We only see a portion of it, and some things are alluded to. Other than that, it was dark and honestly perfectly done from a vampire's point of view!
“Both Feet in the Grave” is a continuation of the Night Huntress novels, and it maintains their high standards. The story – although familiar to fans – is exciting and engrossing, and the characters are wonderfully vivid.
The story is a continuation of that begun in “The Other Half of the Grave”, and is best suited to readers who’ve already read that. However, it is accessible for readers who are starting here. There’s enough looking back that new readers won’t flounder in the plot, and it’s smoothly woven in so as not to bore or annoy continuing readers.
While this is nominally the second in the series, by another reading it’s the tenth. The initial eight Night Huntress stories were written entirely from Cat’s point of view. These new books are telling the exact same story, but the point of view of her lover, Bones.
I picked up the first novel in this series with some trepidation: it could be exploitative and repetitive, or it could be a wonderful deepening of the story through a new perspective. I am delighted to say that it’s the second, and “Both Feet in the Grave” continues to deepen ongoing readers’ understanding of the characters, while still providing an engaging plot for new readers.
I do note that I read and loved the first Night Huntress novel (“Halfway to the Grave”) fifteen years ago, and so my reading of these new novels probably benefit from the fact that time has blurred my memory of some details. It’s easier not to be constantly comparing something if you know you don’t remember all the details. Then, too, Frost is upfront about the fact that she has made minor changes to the novels in the service of keeping them contemporary. These changes are mostly around technology, and I found them seamless. I wouldn’t have noticed the changes if she hadn’t owned up to them upfront.
In “Both Feet in the Grave”, Bones has been forcibly separated from Cat. He knows she made the choice to leave, but believes she was essentially blackmailed or bullied into it by a government agency. Years later, his love for Cat burns strong and he’s still searching for her, getting closer by the day.
When Bones and Cat come face to face again, their personal chemistry is still explosive. Meanwhile, their mutual desire to rid the world of vampires who use and abuse humans creates different kinds of explosions, and leads to a confrontation that may destroy both Bones and Cat.
Honestly, the plot isn’t the main attraction to this novel. After all, it’s pretty clear that Bones and Cat will survive to star in several more novels. Fans of the earlier novels will also know broadly what happens. Having said that, though, the plotting here is good and keeps pulling the reader through the story. For a fan, seeing things that happened “off stage” in earlier novels – that is, when Cat wasn’t present – adds a good deal of interest and depth. For a newer reader, there’s probably more tension and certainly a lot of questions to be answered.
The relationship between Cat and Bones was central to the success of the earlier series, and it remains critical here. Both are strong characters, but here we’re getting a different view of Cat, and a different sense of Bones. In particular, we understand his decision making more clearly, his history, and his love for Cat. At least half the pleasure of this novel is that it serves as an excellent character study of Bones. Long standing fans may get the most out of this, but new readers should also appreciate it.
I had to re-write parts of this review because I loved the first series so much that I kept going off onto tangents to rave about it. I do recommend it to anyone who’s reading this series and hasn’t read it. Although it will result in some plot spoilers for this series, it will deepen your appreciation of the characters and relationships. And they’re just plain good books.
So for fans, this is an excellent novel. It’ll further deepen your understanding of Bones in particular, but also give you some new insight into Cat. The story remains strong and engaging even if you’re likely to remember the major beats.
For new readers, this is also an excellent novel. The world building is first class, and the strong characters will draw you into the novel quickly. The story is interesting and you may zip through it, desperate to know the outcome.
This is an excellent instalment in a long running series, but it’s also a good stand alone novel.

I love re-reading my favorite books but re-reading a story from a different perspective? Knowing what will happen, but reading it knowing the thoughts and feelings of one of the main characters which previously had not been given? A whole new, thrilling experience! For years, I’ve wondered how Bones fared during those four years he and Cat were separated. At last, I have the answers now.
Reading the second book from Bones’ POV broke my heart. How he searched for Cat for years, the pain and despair when he couldn’t. And finding her again? The reconciliation and all the sacrifices he made just to be with her. I loved the faith he had in both of them, that they could beat all the odds if they were together.
Cat still annoys me with her recklessness but those moments when she puts him first tug at the heartstrings.
I read this book in one sitting. I just couldn’t stop. I wanted to keep reading. Right after I finished, I needed more of Bones so I re-read the 3rd Night Huntress book, At Grave’s End. I can’t wait to get Bones’ POV for the 3rd book!
