An endearing story about second chances. A romance mystery that tugged at my emotions with a clear message to follow your heart. Very nicely written.

Kate, Katarina, Katydid and Katharine... different names for different parts of her life. Parts she has fought hard to keep separate; both physically and mentally.

Living in Italy with her boyfriend Giancarlo (a member of a wealthy Roman family who acts as her agent) 'Katarina' is working on pieces for her upcoming art exhibition. After a brief trip to her American home town for her father's 60th birthday, 'Katydid' spends a few days reconnecting with the people she grew up with. The experience is unnerving, forcing her to acknowledge feelings she has spent years repressing.

Once back in Italy, she begins to settle back into life as 'Katarina' when a phone call from her brother Tom sends her hurtling back to America for the forseeable future. As her varying worlds begin to collide, can she be true to herself and forge a new path? Or will the weight of the past be too much?

Overall I enjoyed this book, especially from 60% in when she makes a drastic life decision. I'll be honest, prior to that point I felt myself repeatedly asking her why... just WHY. It was hard to become invested in the story when I strongly opposed the limp way she approached her own life. I do feel that after the 60% mark, she took back some control and it was empowering to see. For me unfortunately it was just too late in the story to truly champion her like I wanted to.

This book is all about Kate finding her true identity and overcoming the grief and responsibility she has harboured for horrible events from her past. Her relationships with others, both romantic and platonic, were a testament to her growth in the book and I enjoyed (most) of these.
