Obsessed doesn’t begin to describe my thoughts on Piper CJ’s brilliant and vivid world in TNAIM series. The third book in the series ups the dial on spiciness while still giving you an amazing fantasy story. I will be reading everything Piper ever writes.
I want so badly to read this. But I asked for it at the time not knowing that it was the third in a series and I can not afford to buy the other book at this time to get to this book in a timely manner. I do apologies for not being able to give a review for this book that I'm sure is very good.
This book starts off with a bang (literally). It’s super fast paced and picks up right were book two left off. After a super chaotic first third of the book, things slowed down. A lot. There was a lot of angst and a lot of planning for nothing. The last quarter or so finally picked up again but overall the pacing seemed off throughout the entirety of the story. Definitely set up book four for a great finale though.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bloom for the ARC of this book.
This is so far my favorite book in the series. Stories are more robust and Nox and Amaris are becoming the women they were meant to be, which may not be the women that they fell in love with. Dealing with feelings, relationships of various kinds, and a world on the precipice of war... we end on a cliffhanger. For some reason I thought this was the final book, so I was super confused when I reached the end. Good news for those who were like me-- there's another one on the way. I'm hoping for a satisfying ending and mostly for Nox and Amaris to be happy with the people they become, regardless if they are together.
I was worried that this third installment in the series wouldn't be able to live up to the first two, but I was so wrong. Piper CJ has done it again! This book was fantastic and was a strong read throughout every single page.
In this book, the story continues to grow with all of the characters we have grown to love in the first two books. I loved getting to learn more about their history and their lives and what makes them so unique. The story sucked me in from the very beginning and I flew through the pages so fast, as I was drawn to the characters and their unique storylines.
While the writing can be a little complex at times, I found myself having to re-read certain paragraphs to fully appreciate the beauty of the prose. Piper CJ's writing is truly masterful and she has created a world that is so rich and detailed, it's easy to get lost in.
Overall, this was such a great read and I enjoyed every minute of it. I highly recommend reading this third installment if you've read the first two! It's a great continuation of the stories of the characters we have grown to love.
The Gloom Between the Stars was a solid third installment in The Night & Its Moon series. I felt at times it was a bit slow in moving the overall plot forward, but will definitely be reading the final book when it comes out to find out how it all ends for Nox, Amaris, and all our other favorite characters.
One thing Piper CJ does really well is her character development and this book was no different. This book also upped the spice level which I am always down for.
I really did not enjoy this. There are pieces I love but they are vastly overshadowed by the lack of plot and the lack of logic. I left this book asking so many logistical questions that went unanswered. I don’t like that a character who is basically a Nazi was “redeemed” by falling in love with someone she previously called a dog. The descriptions and anachronisms in this are absolutely ridiculous. It’s probably 300 pages too long.
This is the third book of four, and I need the fourth book now! Going deeper with the characters, and watching them continue to grow was a joy. For me, especially Ash. Something I see in this book is how we see things our own way, but as we are around others with varying beliefs, we can come to some level of overcoming our own biases, racism, and even understanding when you have to let go of toxic family members.
I would give anything to see a picture of the throne room. I know how I see it in my head, but I know I don’t do it justice. Once again, the visualizations are so detailed. The spice level is definitely ramped up!!
There is love, passion, blood, gore, and some scenes that can be hard for some. You will laugh, cry, need to cool down ;), and at one point I wanted to put my phone (since it’s on my phone as an ARC) in the freezer (if you don’t get that reference, please don’t make me feel older than I already do). We are left waiting for the fourth book with baited breath. It will be worth every second I have to wait.
Thank you to Netgalley and the Publisher for providing me this Advanced Readers Copy of The Gloom Between Stars by Piper CJ
This series came into my life when I needed it the most, guiding me towards light after a challenging and dark period. It became the catalyst for reclaiming my life and charting a new empowered path. Just like the first two books, “Gloom” completely absorbed me into its beautifully crafted world, with well-developed characters. I eagerly anticipate what’s next from this fantastic and inspiring series!
I’m absolutely obsessed with this series! It offers engaging fantasy with queer representation, epic battles, steamy romance, and vividly descriptive settings that feel like deja vu from a dream.
One of the best things about these books is that they fulfill my wishes and desires as a reader. The plot flows smoothly, and the dialogue feels genuine and intriguing. I adore the characters and their relationships, as friendships and romance hold equal value, showcasing love in its various forms.
As the third book in the series, there’s no need for a plot description or synopsis. By now, I’m certain you’re just as hooked as I am. I don’t want this series to end, and I’ve grown attached to all the characters, even if they cause me pain! I’ll be eagerly waiting for more, and thank you to Piper CJ and NetGalley for providing this ARC. I’m already planning to add a physical copy to my library as soon as possible!
Piper has done it again. She has given the world a fantasy novel worth talking about.
This is the third installment of the series and definitely the coziest in that there are more slice of life moments and less imminent danger. But danger still exists.
The world building continues in a natural and organic way. The characters continue to develop in ways that are believable.
Overall I loved it and cannot wait for the next book.
Finding me when I needed it most, this series helped lead me back into the light following a difficult &dark time in my life. This series was the catalyst to me reclaiming my life and setting a new, empowered direction for myself. Just as the first two books, Gloom pulled me in and fully immersed me into a beautiful world full of wonderful, well developed characters. I can't wait to see what's next to come from this fantastic, inspiring series!
I would like to thank Netgalley and Bloom for providing me with an ARC copy to review this book.
I often find the 3rd book in series that are longer than trilogies can be hard to get through, but The Gloom Between Stars broke through some of that with how it built the relationships between characters. TGBS broke free of some of the seriousness of the first 2 books (there are absolutely still serious topics addressed) to bring some lightheartedness to the story of Nox, Amaris, and Co. I wanted a tiny bit more in terms of the overarching plot of the series being driven forward by this 3rd book, I felt like we didn't get all that much farther in the overall story, at the expense of the character development. That being said, I truly enjoyed getting deeper dives into the characters and their interactions with one another, I am certainly looking forward to where Piper takes them all in the 4th installment!
this might be the worst installation of this series yet. book 1 was flawed but fun, book 2 was kind of a slog, but this, book 3, is actively bad. somehow, the prose has gotten worse, every time someone orgasms it’s just pages of clinical descriptions of oxytocin and dopamine. it’s incredibly unsexy. half the sentences take place in the wrong tense. everything is “she had done, he had been eating.” when the author could effectively and beautifully use 2-3 sentences of purple prose to describe something, she uses 5 paragraphs. this book is so damn long and yet hardly anything happens.
and the character arcs are just ridiculous and offensive. we’ve got special white jesus, brown girl that white jesus has to save, evil racist girl who just gets accepted into the bowling league even though she still wants to commit genocide against half of them (and is never shown to change or make amends btw), and a bunch of men with the personalities of wet fur.
what is going on with bloom? why didn’t they catch this in the editing process?
Obsessed with this series!!! Engaging fantasy with queer representation, epic battles, steamy romance, and settings so descriptive I felt like I’ve been there once before in a dream.
What I love most about these books is that anytime I’m begging for something to happen, it does! The plot flows smoothly and dialogue always feels realistic and interesting. I love the characters and their relationships. I love that friendships and romance are equally valuable and that love comes in so many forms.
This is the third book in the series so I don’t feel like I need to describe the plot or give a synopsis since by now I am sure you are just.as HOOKED as I am. I never want this series to end and I love all of these characters so much. (Even when they cause me pain!!!) I will be here waiting very impatiently for more.
Thank you Piper CJ and NetGalley for this ARC! I will also be ordering a copy to add to my physical library asap!
I wasn't a fan of The Night & its Moon, this one is better and I liked it. I appreciated the world building and the plot was well written.
3.5 uppped to 4
Many thanks to the publisher for this ARC, all opinions are mine
The Gloom Between Stars had such amazing potential and for me it just fell a bit flat and I think it had to do with the writing for me. I had to DNF after 50% because there was just too much information being thrown at me and the writing felt a little scattered. I am going to retry this book, but at the time of this review, I can’t say I enjoyed it. I loved the premise but I feel like it just needs some fine tuning to make plot points, settings, and character development a little more refined.
I truly love the world that Piper creates in her books. The immersive and beautifully written story was everything to me. I love that mythology is woven so delicately into a captivating story and universe with characters I adore. I am obsessed.
Overall, this has been the best book in the series so far! The conflict at the beginning holds my interest immediately compared to the other two books with their slow moving starts. Piper mentioned this would be the spiciest book to date, and boy did she deliver! The only reason I ended up giving this book 4 stars instead of 5, is the fact that it really started to drag about halfway through the book. This was my issue with the first two books as well, but the plot and storyline were enough to keep me moving through each time. You can easily see the change in Amaris and Nox in this book, almost like they flipped personalities for a minute. I love how Piper gives all of the side characters their own arcs in these books, which is probably why they are so lengthy. Instead of doing what other notable fantasy authors have done (write separate books for those characters), Piper has found a way to make it work within Amaris and Nox’s books. I’ve read other reviewers mention the similarity to the Witcher, but as an original fan of the Witcher books, I don’t think the two are close enough to make that connection besides Amaris looking similar to Ciri (white hair and scar) and the Reevers having a similarity to the Witchers (minus the magic). I would absolutely recommend this series to anyone that enjoys fantasy and romance! Thanks to NetGalley and Bloom Books for the ARC copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
Please note: my review will be posted on Instagram prior to or on release day, and my review will be updated to include the link.
Thank you to Sourcebooks for the review copy of this book!
Wow I knew that this series was going to get better as it went along, but I am now fully invested in the story. Piper is starting to bring more action into the plot, and dive deeper into the issues of this world, and I LOVE it. Please note that due to this being a 3rd book in a series, this review will have slight spoilers for the first two as well as this book.
It is definitely a high fantasy story, so there are moments when I’m reading where I have to go back and be like “wait what did I just read”, but that could be on my ADHD brain zoning out. I won’t say it has any indication on the actual story itself though, just that there is a lot of detail and sometimes I find myself personally getting lost in it. But, I also love when there’s world building and detail, so it’s a whole thing. Pretty much if you like detailed plot and description, this series continues to deliver.
Now, the characters. I am continuing to develop connections to them, I have found that Malik is my favorite guy and I think Nox is my favorite gal, but it kind of depends on what exactly they’re going through. Another thing, I am slightly confused on where these relationships are going. For instance, I keep feeling like Nox and Amaris are end game, but I really like Amaris and Gadriel? Like I want them to be end game? But then I’m also like will there be a poly endgame? Which if there is, I’d love because then everyone can be happy? Also, I think the charaacters have all had some serious development in this book, and I love seeing it. You can really see the growth that is happening from who they were in the first book to now. And the introduction of Tanith was super fascinating as well.
The thing that stuck out to me the most in this book, however, was the commentary on religion and the introduction of Tanith. I thought the commentary on religion and the church was brought more into this story, and didn’t feel too in your face. I also thought that the way that Tanith was introduced into the story, and the progress we see with her, was an interesting commentary on religious zealots. I’m curious to see where else her story travels.
Overall, I gave this story 4 stars. I think it’s a pretty solid installment in a fantasy series, and I am interested to read the next book when it comes.
