Felt like I was reading a book with ADHD the whole time. The plot is uneven and jumps about, making it hard to follow. Not helped by how nearly every sentence ends with an exclamation mark too. I've not read the other books in the series and was hence lacking context, which certainly made things all the harder to understand and quite aggravating to read.
I liked the artwork, colours and layout though. Not every page uses the standard frames to tell the story and instead has a 'free style', which felt refreshing. Sadly the story was a miss for me. Maybe kids will find this book more fun and enjoyable than I did.
I have a 9yr old child who loves graphic novels, who loves entertaining and fun stories with adventures and friendships in them, and she always appreciates a book that can be read in one sitting. She also loves stories that are so farfetched and absolutely unreal, that you have to wonder how does one even comes up with ideas like that.
This one meets all those.
In fact, we somehow missed that there was a book in the series before this one – so, we will be ordering the first books sometime next week, and we will be looking forward to the next book in the series.
Not only did my child read the book, but I read it too, and I have to admit I absolutely understand why she enjoyed them. They are fun. They are entertaining. They pull in from the first pages. The drawings are nice, the text is not overwhelming, and it is just the right text/drawings ratio.
Everything in the book happens FAST. And it is hilarious. And exciting. And absolutely unlikely to ever happen in real life.
Loved it.
