This felt like Iโ€™ve met Cat woman! Please can someone bring a boyfriend like Daniel Haas to me?!
Dylan Truman is on a revenge quest to take down men who wronged all the women. She has such a unique way to this task as part of her consultation is inquiring what the victim would like to see happen to that man. Aided by her best friend and master hacker Daniel, Dylan has built this persona completely through word of mouth, and she works hard to protect her double life.
Then she receives a case through Daniel that changes everything... Pharmaceutical billionaire Brent Wilder has blacklisted one of his female employees, a scientist who knows the dangerous truth about a new antidepressant his company is marketing. This case becomes deeply personal to Dylan as Brent assaulted her sister years ago and escaped punishment. Driven by a blind need for revenge, Dylan becomes dangerously close to Brent.

I LOVED Dylan. She was driven, I know flawed but motivated, and so stubborn. Her narration of the story made her immediately likable, The reader doesn't get a lot of back story about her sister's assault, but the pain and rage is still vividly detailed. And I loved the chemistry between her and Daniel and the steamy scene! Oh My!

This was a debut? I'm already on board to buy and read everything this author writes. If you liked THEY NEVER LEARN by Layne Fargo, you will fall in love with Dylan, or Lady Justice.

Dylan Truman is on a quest to take down predatory men. She has a rather unique approach to this task as part of her consultation is inquiring what the victim would like to see happen to the target. Aided by her best friend and master hacker Daniel, Dylan has built this persona completely through word of mouth, and she works hard to protect her double life. Then she receives a call from a client that changes everything...millionaire and pharmaceutical billionaire Brent Wilder has blacklisted one of his female employees, a scientist who knows the dangerous truth about a new antidepressant his company is marketing. This case becomes deeply personal to Dylan as Brent assaulted and disfigured her older sister years ago and escaped punishment. Driven by a blind need for revenge, Dylan becomes dangerously close to Brent while wrestling with her feelings for Daniel, which are brought to the surface by the reappearance of his former flame.

Dylan was the kind of character I love--driven, flawed, motivated, and so layered that it's impossible to know her. Her narration made her immediately likable, and although I am a fan of most revenge stories, I was especially drawn to this one because the writer completely immersed me into Dylan's world. The reader doesn't get a lot of back story about her sister's assault, but the pain and rage is still vividly detailed. I was surprised at one especially steamy scene, only because they're not often found in thrillers, but it worked for this story! *clutches pearls*

CLOSE ENOUGH TO HURT won't publish until the fall, October 10, 2023, but it's one for thriller lovers that should definitely be on your radar now! Thank you so much to NetGalley and Crooked Lane Publishing for my review copy.

A unique, fast paced, brilliantly written thriller. You canโ€™t go wrong with this, a strong female lead with a mix of romance and of course revenge. I loved this take on the clichรฉ cheating or domestic thrillers and instead we have a strong main character fighting for her own and other justice. This was a great read and if you want something new from thrillers and want some romance I highly recommend this.

Beautifully written, tightly paced, and dripping with tension -- every time you think it's safe to relax, the author reveals a new twist to the plot. If this is what a romantic thriller renaissance looks like, I'm here for it!

This book was absolutely everything and then some! From the premise and the comparison to films such as promising young woman, I had such high hopes and this surpassed them by far!

The story is told beautifully, it's fast paced and keeps you on the very very edge if your seat. There a tension built in the atmosphere and the characters are vivid and original. Once you start this book, it's impossible not ot be completely swept away and to lose yourself in the plot. It's such an intelligently written thriller with amazing twists and turns. I loved every second of it!!!

Wow! This is a definite five star read for me!

In Katherine A. Olsonโ€™s debut thriller, we meet Dylan, (aka Lady Justice) a Revenge-for-hire vigilante and her best friend, Daniel, who is the hacker behind the scenes. Her newest target is a billionaire named Brent, and this one is personal for her. He assaulted her sister years ago and got away with it. Sheโ€™s done letting him get away with things now that the opportunity has presented itself. meanwhile, this is Danielโ€™s last job with Dylan because he is ready to move on and start a family. Dylan is facing a new reality and fighting feelings she didnโ€™t know she had.

Will she be able to keep her head in the game and stay under Brentโ€™s radar so she can accomplish her goal? Will she lose her one and only friend in the process?

What I liked about this book: it was fast paced, with short chapters. The characters were well developed and I found myself caring what happened to them. I didnโ€™t want to stop reading and was sad when it was over. I also loved that it included LGBTQIA+ characters.

What I didnโ€™t like: That it ended.

Please if Katherine writes another book, allow me to read it as an ARC!

Read this book if you like:
๐Ÿ’• a sprinkle of romance/spiciness
๐Ÿคบ strong female lead that is ready to fight
๐Ÿ‘€ Suspense that makes you want to keep reading

โš ๏ธ Trigger warning: this book includes violence, both verbal, physical and sexual.

Goodreads review link added, TikTok link to follow by Monday 3/20.

Wow! What an amazing novel!

Close Enough to Hurt follows Dylan, aka Lady Justice, as she gets revenge for her scorned clients. When it turns personal, her life gets complicated and the suspense heats up!

I have to admit, I didnโ€™t love the cover of this book so I was questioning if I would even like the story. Also, after reading the description I wasnโ€™t sure this story was for me. I am SO GLAD I didnโ€™t trust my own judgments and dove in head first!

Katherine A. Olson has quickly become one of my new favorite authors with this novel. It is so well written and executed!

If you like fast-paced, suspenseful, great character arcs, and shorter chapters (like me) you will LOVE this book!

What I also liked was that this book was very indicative of the times we are in. The author was inclusive of all types of people and I feel like that is certainly lacking in todayโ€™s novels.

A big thank you to NetGalley, Crooked Lane Books for the opportunity to read this ARC!

Addictive and smart - tense and sometimes brutal - with an undercurrent of longing that weaves along until the rather satisfying end. Quite the surprise and not to be missed.
