OH MY GOD WHAT A THRILLER!!!!!! I am literally so surprised (but not really) at how easily I was drawn into this story line.

Plot twist after plot twist that kept me with a constant jaw drop!! Seriously I am so shook at the ending.

So many different POVs, but you could keep up with them a lot easier than expected!! So many fucked up characters and I just LOVED IT.

This is a must listen/read!!!

Thanks Macmillan for my ALC 🫶

I had no idea that this book was already out, and I'm so glad I had the chance to listen to this.

This is such a creepy horror novel with all the yikes moments.

Wonderland is an amusement park that this whole little town protects at all costs, despite the fact that employees are going missing and foul play seems to be a part of it.

If you are a fan of thrillers that are gruesome and disturbing then this is the book for you!

I would highly recommend, but check trigger warnings!

Thank you Net Galley for this audiobook ARC and for allowing my honest review.

What an exciting audiobook! I understand the novel was first published in 2015, but I just discovered the audio version. The narrator draws you in the magif of Wonderland, a Pacific Northwest amusement park with a dark past. The protagonist has just moved back to the area with her children in hope of creating a calm environment for her family. Instead, dead teenagers keep turning up - or going missing! There are as many twists and turns as a roller coaster, steadily climbing to an unexpected drop of your stomach as you find out who is behind the mysteries at Wonderland. Don't worry - there are plenty of suspects and villians, enough to fill a giant ferris wheel.

I love Jennifer Hillier - after reading Jar of Hearts and being blown away by it, I have been wanting to be a completist and read ALL of her books. So far, she never disappoints. I devour her books, enjoy her interesting and complicated characters and know I am in good hands for some twists and turns along the way.

Wonderland is a book that has been on my radar for awhile and so I was so glad to get my hands (or ears) on the audiobook! First of all, the narrator Eunice Wong does some absolutely great voice work that kept the cast of characters clear in my mind. Love that with an audiobook narrator!

This was a fun story - I love an amusement park setting and a great mystery thriller where I have to find the clues and figure out who did it in the end. I was hoping for a tad more use of the setting in the book and it definitely had a lot of the elements of a typical thriller - but in Hillier's hands, I found myself gasping a few times and ultimately enjoying unraveling all the threads to figure out who did it in the end.

For a fun thriller - I definitely recommend - as far as Jennifer Hillier novels go, I would recommend a few of her others before this one, but I still believe you can't go wrong with any of her books. I also look forward to reading one that is still on my TBR - Little Secrets - especially now that I found out the lead female character here makes a return in that one.

I will continue to devour anything that Jennifer Hillier writes! 3.5 Stars for this one - 5 stars for her entire body of work!

Audiobook Release Date: April 11th, 2023

Jennifer Hillier is an auto-buy author for me. Wonderland was her only book that I had yet to read so I was thrilled to be approved for this audiobook.

An intriguing story, a creepy setting and layers of plot.....everything I have come to expect from this author.

Loved it!

Wonderland by Jennifer Hillier was published in 2015 as an ebook only. The story is now being released in Audio and I am super excited I got to read an early copy. I thought the narrator, Eunice Wong, did a fantastic job with the different cast of characters. I never felt bored by the story or the narration, I was fully interested in what would happen.

Wonderland sounds equal parts super fun and incredibly damn creepy! The author definitely brings the eerie vibes in spades throughout. From a clown museum to stories of hidden tunnels below the park.... I wouldn't want to visit for more than a day. I liked the police procedural aspect of the story. You definitely also get small-town, everyone-knows-everyone feels too, which adds to the frustrations the Deputy Chief is feeling. Oh and, I totally didn't see the twist coming of who the big bad is.

3.5 stars. I'm rounding up but the reason it didn't make 4 stars is there isn't really much explanation as to why the big bad does what they do. Maybe the reader can infer the reasoning but there are a lot of loose threads in terms of the crime(s) too. (why they did it, why they did it in the specific way they did, where'd that one guy go?)

Anticipated Audiobook pub: April 11th.

Big thanks to Macmillan Audio for the ALC to read and review!

BONUS STAR ALERT. I read this book when it was released and jumped at the chance to hear the audiobook. The narrator made this perfect! Great job on the voices and the timbre of the story itself. It added so much depth. This is a seriously creepy story that oozes suspense and abject terror. The plot twists and turns like a maze and keeps you guessing. The end is explosive. This one has the potential to give you nightmares. Absolutely a must read.

I wasn't sure what to expect based on the cover but I love Jennifer Hillier's work.

There's just enough twists to keep you guessing and unsure on who's the bad guy. I didn't mind reading a detective narrative since she was not the typical cop.

I listened to the audiobook and enjoyed the narration

Wonderland by Jennifer Hillier
NetGalley ALC - audiobook release April 11!
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Blurb: Vanessa Castro wanted a fresh, new start for her family after the tragic loss of her husband. She landed a great new job as the Deputy Chief of Seaside Washington. A town known for its small town charm and retro, magical amusement park called Wonderland. Everything sounded perfect until a dead body was placed under their famous Wonder Wheel. Now Vanessa has to try to solve a homicide while fighting political influence and shoddy detective work done by the former Deputy Chief. Who in the quiet town is murdering young boys, and why is someone trying to cover it up?

This is a thriller, murder mystery book told with multiple POV. There are dark and heavy topics discussed, which include pedophilia, rape/sexual assault, and murder. Please read the triggers warnings prior to indulging!

Thoughts: I enjoyed this book! It took a bit for it to capture my attention, but with the constant questioning, I had to know who did it. The twists and turns in this book were unexpected, and even at 50%, I still wasn't sure who the killer was. Turns out I was wrong, which almost never happens! The "who done it," lies, and deceit are strong in this book, making it hard to trust anyone.

Thank you NetGalley, Jennifer, and Macmillan Audio for the advanced listener copy in exchange for an honest review!

A thriller novel set at a theme park is one of the easiest ways to get me creeped out. Plus, there is a clown museum? That is my worst nightmare.

I adored the narrator Eunice Wong. Her ability to change her voice just enough for each of the different POV's made it easier to follow. She is able to voice a 14 year old and middle aged man and make it distinct. That's incredible.

That being said, there are a lot of POV's in this novel, and it would have been helpful to have their names stated at the beginning of each chapter. Usually, I am working or cleaning when I'm listening to an audiobook, so I may miss the small nuance of whose POV it is until later in the chapter.

I believe thrillers make the best audiobooks, and I am beyond grateful that I received an advanced copy of this audiobook.

I have been wanting to read Wonderland for a long time so I was excited when it was a choice for Macmillan Audio’s influencers this month. Let me tell you, this book did not disappoint.

Set at an amusement park, this book was so spooky and creepy, and I absolutely loved it! I’ve only read one other book by Hillier, and what I love about her writing is the way she writes her characters emotions. While reading this book I could feel the fear in these characters.

From the Clown Museum to the House of Horrors, the setting of this book was perfect for this edgy thriller. There were a lot of characters, but I didn’t have a hard time keeping track of them. What I did struggle with was figuring out who the killer was which is what I want in a thriller. I thought I had it figured out, but nope! I was way off.

Eunice Wong narrates the audiobook, and she was the perfect narrator for this story. She had all the emotions and fear needed to make this book as creepy as possible.

If you like a blend of horror and thriller then this is book for you!

Although I have been hearing about Jennifer Hiller for a while, this is the first book of hers that I read. Thank you to @netgalley for the audio! What a great audio it was. There were just so many moments! At one point, I thought the author was reaching the end of the book, but saw there was still 2 hours left. I thought to myself, how is she going to fill this time. But fill the time she did! Wow! so many unexpected twists and turns. There are a few triggers in this book so be careful of that..
Great listen!

Thank you to Netgalley, Macmillan Audio and Jennifer Hillier for the ARC.

This is a re-release of a older book in audio version. They have made some updates including a new front cover which I think was an excellent choice. The narrator did a great job of reading this book. The book was super suspenseful and I didn’t want to stop listening.

I highly recommend this one for a creepy, thrilling, great mystery novel.

4.5 rounded up!

Wonderland follows newly minted Deputy Chief of Police Vanessa Castro as she moves to idyllic Seaside, home to the amusement park Wonderland. When a man is found dead on park grounds, Vanessa starts to investigate whether this town is really as idyllic as it seems.

I had been wanting to read this thriller for a good long while, but for some reason, just hadn't gotten to it. I found it to be delightfully creepy, the setting of the amusement park to be the right mix of fun and unsettling. Everyone was a suspect at one point, which kept the suspense there. I did end up guessing most of the twists, which I have found common for me with Jennifer Hillier, but her writing style kept me wanting to see and know more to verify if I had guessed right. I found it to be a very fun, quick read and will continue to read through Hillier's backlist and look forward to her next offerings.

Thank you to Macmillan Audio and NetGalley for an advance copy in exchange for honest review. This audio will be released for the first time April 11, 2023.

I’ve read a number of Jennifer Hillier’s newer releases and have liked what I’ve read, so I was excited to get a copy of this audiobook.

This was no different. Lots of twists and turn. You think you have it figured out and there’s another unexpected twist. Entertaining narrator.

Would definitely recommend this to others, either in audio or physical form.

I received this book free of charge from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.

🎡 Wonderland - Jennifer Hillier

4 ⭐️- so, I had a hard time rating this one. Overall, the story, the mystery/thriller whodunit, and the suspense was awesome. I felt like I was on the edge of my seat the whole time (I’m gullible, we should know this by now 🤣) but wow, holy trigger warnings that I wasn’t prepared for.

Welcome to Wonderland, home of the oldest ferris wheel in the Pacific Northeast. There’s rides, food, a clown museum, and a house of horrors… and a murder mystery? Vanessa Castro’s first day as deputy chief is nothing short of exciting - a homeless man, found dead at an amusement park AND a missing teenager who’s picture at the top of the famous wheel goes missing. This park is full of secrets, lies, coverups, and creepy clowns, but that’s not all…

This book was THRILLING. Jennifer Hillier writes a fabulous whodunit story, as many of her books are, and I’m definitely a fan. I was invested in the story the entire way. Changing POVs and short chapters made this one easy to fly through. I highly recommend the audio - coming out for the first time on 4/11! There were some twists and turns I didn’t see coming but, it lost some points for me because of some touchy subject topics. I personally can see past them and enjoy the greater thrill of the story, but others may not feel the same. Definitely recommend with caution!

Imagine my shock and delight when I received an email telling me I'd been sent this audiobook without even having to request it, simply because I've read and reviewed (and loved!) Jennifer Hillier books in the past! I can't think of may other authors whose books I would have been so excited to receive a free audio copy of, so thank you Macmillan Audio, Jennifer Hillier and NetGalley for this free audio book in exchange for my honest review.

Wonderland has been on my TBR since discovered this author in 2021 when I read Jar of Hearts and Little Secrets. I actually didn't realize that Wonderland was originally released only as an e-book; no wonder I had such a hard time tracking down a physical copy! Listening to this thriller on audio brought a whole extra level of suspense and terror to the story.

Wonderland features a bad ass female main character, Vanessa Castro, who is new to Seaside, WA after leaving her former life and job as a homicide detective in Seattle, WA. She is fresh in her role as deputy chief of the local police force when a body is discovered at the town's popular attraction, Wonderland. As the story unfolds, we have a front row seat to the many levels of depravity lurking within the amusement park. Around every corner, fresh horror awaits. Behind every character, secrets, lies and histories are hidden. As Vanessa investigates one crime, more are uncovered, some even weaving themselves into her own family and life.

If clowns, dolls and amusement parks freak you out, this book will check all the boxes for you. While this trope isn't one of my favourites, the book had so many other parts that I really enjoyed. Jennifer Hillier is the queen of creating the ultimate bad guys. The way she can reach into your deepest, darkest fears and spin them into a shocking story just gets me every time. While not a romance novelist, the woman can write a spicy sex scene, too!

My only criticism is that at times, the classic horror movie vibe was a little over the top and could come across as a little cheesy. But again, if the carnival trope turns your crank, you'll love this book.

I was thoroughly entertained by this atmospheric crime thriller audiobook and will definitely continue to follow everything she has on offer.

I'm a big fan of Jennifer Hillier's work and this didn't disappoint. I don't like anything to do with dolls or clowns so I knew this would scare me. Putting that aside, though, even without the clowns, this is a disturbing creepy thriller that I could not stop listening to. The narrator is fantastic. I loved Vanessa Castro in all her complexity and baggage and determination. I rooted for her and Oz. I had no idea where this was going and the ending was very satisfying. HIghly recommend!

Vanessa and her daughter Ava move to Seaside. Vanessa is the new police chief in town. Ava works at an amusement park called Wonderland and a body is found in the park. Dun dun dun. The body is noticed by a daredevil teen climbing the Wonder Wheel…who also happens to go missing. Forewarning, any amusement park and clown nonsense creeps me out, so this hit the mark. Psycho on the loose at a carnival? My nightmare.

This was originally written in 2015, but audiobook comes out April 11, 2023!
