I loved this! So much fun and such a good book for a 20-something to read. Loved the characters and the concept of revisiting past lovers. The friendship was great as well. Loved the ending!
Such a cute romance! Seven Exes will take you through the gamit of emotions! You'll laugh, cry, and swoon...all while rooting for love!
thank you to netgalley for the advanced reading copy. I really enjoyed this and will be getting copies for my shop.
For fans of oft-forgotten Anna Faris masterpiece What’s Your Number? and Scott Pilgrim. Esther reads an article that explains the seven types of partners you have to date before you meet “the one,” reflects on her big seven exes and how they fit into the archetypes, and decides to reach back out to each of them to see if there’s still something there. Esther as a main character is pretty self-centered and an awful friend, but there’s a good bit of growth by the end that felt earned and realistic. We love some bisexual rep. It’s not the best book I’ve ever read, but it was fun and people will have a good time with it.

This book was such a fun and fast paced read! I think the concept of going through exes to see if one might be the one that got away is so fun, because who has never wondered that about an ex?
Overall, the friendship was such a beautiful plot point between the FMC and her besties and truly loved to see their unwavering friendship and support while she was figuring out what’s next for her in life, and what’s best left in the past.
If you want a book that mixes finding love and a great example of friendship I strongly recommend this fast paced romance!
Thank you to the publisher for my ARC in exchange for my review!
This was cute. Just okay, really. I wish Esther had a more complete healing journey, focusing on her own self improvement, confronting the ways in which she had self-sabotaged her relationships. I appreciated that in the end the focus really was on how all of our relationships are important, not just romantic ones.
I enjoy reading British chick lit, I just do. I wouldn’t really call this a romance. It was a fun, breezy read, filled with messy characters and messy stories. It was a bit predictable and it meanders, but that was kind of part of the charm. A journey through one woman’s exes turned out to be quite entertaining and realistic, except I didn’t enjoy the predictable “I’ve been so selfish” bit and then everyone convinced her otherwise. It was obvious who she was supposed to end up with, but the final twist felt super rushed and a little disappointing. I wanted more of that romance!
This was fun in a way, going through all the exes and dating disasters. But I just found the MC and her friends so annoying. They’re going into their 30’s and act like underage college kids. It was hard to take any of them seriously.
Thank you to Harper Perennial Paperbacks and NetGalley for providing me with an advanced copy of this book!
Seven Exes follows Esther, a woman approaching 30 who is jealous of her friends in long term relationships. She finds a magazine article that outlines the seven types of relationships everyone has and realizes that she's already had them all! Does this mean she missed her chance at the one? Esther embarks on a mission to revisit each of her seven exes to see if she might have missed something and one of them was actually the one.
Seven exes was overall fun. I found it a bit bland and predictable at times, though I didn't see the ending coming. I think the author could have built a bit of a stronger foundation to make the ending not feel like it was completely out of left field.
While the dialogue between Esther and her friends Bibi and Louise could be over the top, I really enjoyed their friendship dynamic and watching them grow (together and apart) during Esther's mission.
Overall I'd give this 3 stars!

Because this is an ARC review, I want to be completely honest. I ended up DNF this book because of the writing. I finished about 80% of it, so I felt like I could still give a review since that was a bulk of the book. The way the dialogue was done was too much like texting and the text being in caps really took up more space than it needed to be. I appreciated the modern pop culture references, but the influx of pop culture language made this book feel like the author was trying to make "fetch" happen (for those who get the reference). Some of the dynamics between the character could have been written better since the story touched on subjects like mental health, SA, and infidelity, but because of the way it was written, the message behind those important themes got overlooked.
This book is like reading eight meet cutes. I was screaming while reading the realistic romance of the book. I could see every guy when reading. I instantly feel in love with Nick and the cutest banter he provides (I knew he would be the one). The writing is some if the best I have ever read, and every interaction seems so real I am inclined to say that is it based on real experience by the author. Ester’s feeling of being behind and like she is missing something is something me and all other clueless people in their 20s can relate to. This book got me out of a reading rut, and I hope it can do the same for other people. THIS HAS TO BE ONE OF MY FAVORITE BOOKS EVER (6/5 stars).
I did a post at 76% of the way through Seven Exes saying I was unsure what I felt about this book bc it felt a little sad and lonely, and not what I expected. However, upon finishing I loved it and it was absolutely a 4* read for me; the characters, the plot, the nicely wrapped-up ending - all exactly what I was looking for in my holiday read🥰
Let's start with the characters. We met a whole cast of characters, ranging from kindhearted to absolute bastards. My favourite of all of them had to be Bibi and Louise. The yin and yang of friends that everyone needs; one gruff and protective, the other sweet and soft. I also loved Alistair - he may have been bumbling and clumsy, but he was also wholesome and loved Esther with his whole heart<3
Onto the plot. Although this book gave me sad and lonely vibes throughout, it was broken up with enough humour that it was still a joy to read. Esther's journey through her exes was both sensible yet completely ridiculous - I mean exes are exes for a reason!
Overall, I would highly recommend this book to anyone who wants a comical yet thoughtful read. It's full of lessons that we all need to learn at some point in our lives, and is just an all-round clever read
The premise of this book is very interesting however, the story itself did not meet the high expectations the synopsis set for me.
Esther seemed a bit too unlikeable and one-dimensional, there wasn't much character growth and development arc over the unfolding of the plot.
Thank you for the ARC in exchange for an honest review!
I love the idea of this book - going back and revisiting all your past relationships to see if you’ve missed one of them being “The One”. 100/10 for concept. I thought the 3 MF characters were fun and well developed. I found myself rooting for Esther.
In my opinion, the book has good writing and was an easy read. Here’s where it went south for me….
Everything wrapped up waaaaaaaay too fast in the last 30 or so pages. Nick became a thing which was surprising, I thought it would be Alister. But the most unbelievable part is the forgiveness she all of a sudden felt for Bibi and Alex. C’mon. She was right to be upset with them and that conflict should have resolved differently. It was like a light switch and as a reader who was invested, I was emotionally ready to forgive them.
This is a fun book!
Overall, this was a fun book, although I can’t allow myself to think about it too much without the whole thing becoming a little less enjoyable. Esther was an insufferable main character, which spoiled the really cool premise for me a little. I think that this book was very well-written and interesting and paced well, but the humor just sometimes wasn’t for me (and have I mentioned that I find Esther annoying?). Definitely worth a read if you’re looking for something fun and different than other romance-esque books out there!

DNF, I did not enjoy the writing style of this book.
********************I received an ARC for my honest option from NetGalley.*******************************
Thank you Net Galley for providing this book and allowing me to read it in advance. I was unable to personally get into this book but that is the power of reading. There’s books for everyone. I know someone else will adore it!
2.5 stars rounded up to 3.
Esther and her friends are at a pub when they stumble across an old Cosmo magazine, featuring an article about the seven types of relationships every woman has had. Esther realizes that if she’s had all these types of relationships, maybe revisiting them will help her find the one she’s meant to be with. Through mishaps and fun with her friends, Esther reconnects with all of her exes to see if there’s still a spark.
Although the premise was interesting, and there were some moments that were funny, overall I found this book to be really flat and boring. I didn’t find any of the characters particularly likable, they all came across as selfish and uncaring. I think it had potential, but just didn’t get there for me.
Thank you to NetGalley and Harper Perennial for an ARC of this book.
Thank you to Netgalley and the Publisher for this Advanced Readers Copy of Seven Exes by Lucy Vine!!
Super cute and snarky rom-com! I loved this authors tone and voice and I will definitely be looking into her other books. Esther reminded me of Finlay Donovan, another mid 30s snarky character, but less murder in Esther’s story :)
