I really liked this book. It was interesting from the start. The murder mystery began in the first chapter or two and was interesting all the way through the end. There was also a little bit of a love story/triangle throughout and I found myself wishing for a sequel to continue this part of the story. The book seems to wrap up prematurely by not finishing this part of the story.

Overall it kept moving well, was hard to stop listening to the story.
The narrator was great, did and excellent job with the accents and voices and was really helpful when there was a lot of dialogue.

I would listen to this book again and recommend it to anyone who likes a little mystery and a little romance.

This was a highly enjoyable story of an American doctor who became a rural GP in a small town in Scotland. When she gets there, she has new people to meet and a frustrating village laird to deal with as she tried to get settled into her new home. But she's not given much of a chance when she stumbles across a murder victim and discovers she is the local coroner.

As she dives into investigating the murder, threatening notes appear and a body disappears only to show up again several days later. Yet that doesn't stop Emilia from building significant friendships with welcoming locals and sinking her roots deep into her new home.

The narrator was awesome with all of the different character voices. I listened to the audiobook in one day, I enjoyed it so much!

Thank you to Lucy Connelly, Dreamscape Media and NetGalley for an advance review copy.

This was a fun read! I loved the narrator and many voices they had for the different characters. The storyline was fun and a good set up for a series. I will definitely read the next ones!

Dr. Emilia McCroy is about to start a new chapter in her life. She’s moving from Seattle all the way to Scotland! She’s gonna be a Dr there in a small village near Edinburgh. When she arrives, she’s greeted by a grumpy old man that has beef with her ancestors. But she do don’t have to worry about him too much because a few hours later he ends up dead and Emilia finds his body! Now she’s determined to find out who killed him.

This was a darling read!! I really enjoyed it! Emilia is able to make fast friends with 3 other women who are sassy, strong, and smart! She also meets a couple of men that could possibly turn into love interests down the road. The only thing that bothered me about Emilia is that she kept trying to insist on paying people for things. In her contract as the doctor, her expenses were covered for certain things but she kept trying to pay. I wanted to shout at her to knock it off or she would seriously offend people!! Lol. I love how straight forward people are in Scotland! They just tell each other to shut up or knock it off and it’s so entertaining! I’m excited to read the next book in this series!

Thank you to Netgalley for allowing me to listen to this book in exchange for an honest review!

Thank you to Net Galley and Dreamscape Media for allowing me to listen to the audio of An American in Scotland by Lucy Connelly.
I really enjoyed this book and all the characters that made up the island of Sea Isle in Scotland. It wasn’t only the story line that drew me in, but the narrator, Kimberly M. Wetherell did a fantastic job with the accents of the different characters and was so engaging.
I loved getting lost in this cozy mystery which happens to take place in one of my favorite places, Scotland. Emilia McRoy, an ER doctor from Seattle is suffering from loss and burnt out when she accepts a position as the new doctor on Sea Isle. She arrives and quickly learns she has hit the jackpot of positions. Her home and practice is in a converted church and has most medical equipment as a large hospital does and she wants for nothing, as her benefactor covers all expenses.
On Emilia’s first night she finds a dead body and after learning she is not only the local doctor, but the coroner, she begins investigating who murdered the local. When Emilia digs too deep she puts her life in danger, which puts the constable/laird, Ewan on constant guard. The longer Emilia is on Sea Isle, the stronger the bonds she makes and her and her new BFF’s help her collect clues and attempt to crack the case. While I suspected who the killer was pretty early on, I thoroughly enjoyed the build-up to the ending and Emilia and Ewan’s bantering woven throughout the story.
I am hoping this is the start to a new series!

Dr Amelia is on an adventure, or maybe running away but it depends on how you look at it. With nothing but bad memories left in Seattle, she accepts a job in the small Scottish Village of Sea Isle as the local ‘Doc’. When she stumbles across a bludgeoned local, she learns she is also the coroner for the village. So naturally she has to slice the who dunnit, right? With the help of nearly the whole town Dr. M investigates but will she uncover a murderer or will she be the latest victim?

This is the first in the #scottishislemystery series by @lucyconnellybooks and I LOVED it. The book was absolutely brought to life by @voxkimberly and I loved listening to it. I really hope they continue using her as the narrator (it’s a real pet peeve of mine when books switch narrators in the middle of a series!!). I may have even stayed up wayyyyy past my bedtime listening last night. I am already eagerly anticipating the next book and returning to sea isle with Dr M and her Watson, Mara. I highly recommend this very addictive book!

Dr Emilia McRoy moves to Sea Isle, Scotland to change her life. A fresh start. Something less hectic than a big metro hospital. Surely life as a doctor in a small Scottish town will be idyllic, right?

Finding a dead body that then disappears before she can conduct an autopsy soon has Emilia rethinking her life choices......

I absolutely loved this book! The local residents are quirky. The local constable is difficult. And Emilia is a strong and stubborn main character determined to get to the bottom of what happened.

Just a delightfully fun and entertaining story to read! This is one story that will be wonderful on audio. When the audio book comes out, I'm going to listen to the story a second time!

I also listened to a review copy of the audio book from Dreamscape Media. Narrated by Kimberly Wetherell, the audio is just over 9 hours long. I like Wetherell's voice - she reads at a nice pace, and did a great job of voice acting. Very enjoyable listening experience!

I'm definitely going to keep reading this series. I can't wait to find out what happens next!

"An American in Scotland" is the story of an American emergency room physician, who relocates from Seattle to a small town in Scotland, to become the town doctor, When a body is discovered, she learns that she is also the town coroner and must investigate the death.

This is a great mystery that picks up steam as it goes along and leaves the reader guessing until the very end. I thoroughly enjoyed this audiobook and would recommend it to anyone who loves a good who-done-it.

3.5⭐

As I continue to slog through especially challenging times, my appreciation of lighter fiction (in this case, cozy mysteries; but also extending to some romances) is growing.

This cozy mystery is especially fun. American doctor Emilia McRoy jumps right into trouble as soon as she arrives in her new Scottish village, where she has signed a one-year contract to provide all necessary medical services as an escape from trouble at home.

In the first 10% of the book, we get an intimate look at her casual clothing preferences, including sports bra and Batman boy shorts and her favorite sloth pajamas. [This isn't important, but it amused me greatly.]

Em immediately forms a squad of girlfriends, including the granddaughter of the local pub owners, a local shopkeeper, and the Jill-of-all-trades assisting at Em's home/clinic. The squad helps Em solve the mystery, with each woman showing her bravery, strength, and particular skills. I loved the girlfriend relationships, as well as their own family relationships.

There are a couple of potential romantic partners for Em, though she's disinterested in another relationship after a bad ending to her marriage.

So many townspeople are considered potential suspects, of course, including the local law-enforcement.

Thank you, NetGalley and Dreamscape Media, for the audio ARC of the book in exchange for an honest review. Publication is expected April 4.

I want to thank Netgalley and the author for gifting me the audio version. A good novel for murder mystery fans. I think for me personally it would be better to read it than listen to it. I didn't really care for the narrator when she did a Scottish accent. But if you are looking for a good light hearted weekend read this is perfect for you.

My thanks to Net Galley and Dreamscape Media for allowing me to review this audio book.

A modern day fish out of water. Amelie leaves the United States to accept position of physician in a quaint Scottish town and gets more than she bargained for when a patron of a local pub is found murdered.

Delightfully charming listen, great narrator quick and easy listen and likeable characters.

I enjoyed this book much more than I expected. I could not put it down! Em is an emergency room doctor that has given up city life to become a small town doctor in Scotland. The town was nothing like she expected and on her first walk she discovers a dead body and she became a suspect. The Constable and Laird Ewan Campbell is very suspicious of Em. As Em explores her new home and the town she begins to investigate.

The cast of characters were so good! I love the tough but caring constable, sweet Tommy and Abigail. Each character was memorable. This series will absolutely be an auto purchase.

Lately I have been reading a number of cozy mysteries and find them enjoyable. An American in Scotland combines a lovely setting and a great story. Just enough suspense to keep the reader engaged and also a nice group of characters and a touch of romance. I look forward to further books in the Scottish Isle Mystery series.

The narrator of the book was also good, which I truly appreciate. All in all, this book offers a great opportunity to visit Scotland without leaving home. Pour yourself a cup of tea and settle in for this fun and engaging story.

This one had me at the title! I love Scotland and everything about it (yes, thank you Diana Gabaldon). This is a quaint mystery about an American physician who comes to a small town in Scotland for a fresh start and gets much more than she bargained for in the process. The narrator did a great job with the brogue, and really brought the characters to life. While at times I found that the story and build up was a bit drawn out, I was interested in reaching the conclusion to hear how it would all play out. If you like stories set in Scotland, particularly those mystery fans, give this a listen! Thanks so much to Lucy Connelly, the publisher, Dreamscape Media, & NetGalley for the opportunity to review this ARC audiobook!

Love discovering new authors and Lucy Connelly is a winner. First in series set in the small town of Sea Isle, Scotland. Dr. Em McRoy is a burnt out ER doctor from the States, she is hoping to find an easier life and maybe discover her roots. Unfortunately that isn’t what happens! Seeking shelter from a sudden storm she enters the closest cottage. No one answers and as she enters she can smell blood and an attack dog is guarding the body. And the deceased is a man she had a run in with at the pub.
Love the development of the characters and the banter between the Dr, and the Laird of all trades is great. The narrator was fantastic! Looking forward to reading the next in the series. I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own. #NetGalley #AnAmericaninScotland

What a beautiful gem of a find!!!!
Dr. Emilia McRoy, the main character (the book is written from her POV) is fed up with working in ER in Seattle and packed everything to move to Sea Isle a small Scottish village. Very soon, a murder takes place and as the only doctor in the community, she soon discovers her duties also cover being the designated coroner amongst other things....
This book which is Narrated by Kimberly M. Wetherell is pure delight. The narration is highly enjoyable and as good as it gets (I am an avid audible listener and really enjoy a good narrator).
The storyline is absolutely fabulous and the mystery easy to follow.
I love the characters, main and secondary ones and this is a big part of my overall enjoyment at a whole.
The backdrop of Scotland is pure delight and very picturesque. You will want to go there!
The Scottish culture is acutely described (from the Scottish people I have met over the years).
This book will transport you in the nicest possible way away from your environment and you will not want it to end. Could not recommend it highly enough!!!!

An American in Scotland gets high marks as a delightful beginning to A Scottish Isle Mystery series.
Dr. Emilia McRoy comes to Scotland to practice medicine on a small isle offshore of Scotland. She has no idea how many roles she is meant to play.
Ewan is laird, mayor and constable. He is overbearing but always caring.
An older man, Smithy, is rude to Emilia and then she finds him dead.
The book is a bit of a merry-go-round as Em investigates. The culprit is one I was not expecting and the danger quite real.
I thoroughly enjoyed the narrator. Thanks to #DreamscapeMedia.
I enjoyed reading and listening to this book. Thanks to Netgalley, Crooked Lane Books and Dreamscape Media for early copies for review.

Dr. Emilia McRoy moved to Sea Isle a small Scottish community far from the hustle and bustle of Seattle. Escaping her past she finds a dead body and part of her new job as coroner leads her into danger and being stalked by the killer. The bonding with the local women as part of an amateur Sherlock Holmes group is one of the most heartwarming parts of the book.
I felt some of the local women characters sounded very alike as read by the narrator and l got a bit confused with identifying who was speaking.
The small village setting and the locals knowing everybody’s business will finally help Emilia solve her mystery and stop her running from her past.
Thanks to @netgalley and @Dreamscape Media for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This book is what I always think of when I need a palate cleanser. Not heavy literature or dark thriller - the opposite. Despite there being a murder, a mystery, and attempted murder, you know it will end ok, the bad guy will be caught, and the more you learn about the initial murder, the less sympathy you feel for the victim. Plus you get brogue, kilts, and strong, handsome men with interesting skills. Is it plausible? Nae. But it's fun!
