Another great story in the Detective Gina Harte series.
The plot was quite intricate and intriguing. Lots of suspense with so many twists and turns.
The author keeps you on the edge of your seat trying to figure out who the killer is.
I have to say I found Gina and her daughters relationship a bit irritating. And, her relationship with her boss is somewhat irritating too.
Overall, a compelling, solid police procedural story from start to finish.
Many thanks to NetGalley, Bookouture and the author for the opportunity to read this book for my honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.

Their Cold Hearts by Carla Kovach
I give this book 4.25 stars

She shuts the door behind her, relieved to be in the safety of her own home. But tonight her house is the most dangerous place she could be. Someone has been waiting for her, and they know she’s home alone…

Book 13, can be read as a standalone.
This is a brilliant police procedural series
with a well written narrative.l love to catch up with Gina and her team on their next case and Carla always manages to do this without overshadowing the investigation. An engaging and clever plot line combined with the twists and turns and great pacing ( no spoilers from me) By the end of the book the threads are satisfyingly pulled together.
If you enjoy crime thrillers give this series a try!
With thanks to Carla Kovach,Netgalley and Bookouture for my chance to read and review this book

Firstly I was pretty mad at Gina for leaving her grandchild with people not known to the mother of the child, but I have serious trust issues.

I was pretty grateful for my back pain this past weekend because it allowed me to read this compelling book. The twists and turns, the guessing game of whodunnit kept me on my toes. The slight 'stalkerish' aspect was super creepy (but in a good way) Told in multiple POV and the unknown killer's POV too gives great perspective on the story line.

As always Carla touches on some real life topics, this time housing crises and homelessness and I finish her books having learned something.

This is book 13 in the Gina Harte series and I'm so keen to keep reading this series because as mad as she mad me in this book I want to see where her story goes.

This is book #13 in the Gina Harte series. Whilst it is a series it can be read as a standalone book, but I would recommend reading them in series order for better understanding of the storyline. Gina Harte is back on the case with a murder of a man in a homeless hostel. Unfortunately, she is asked to lead the investigation whilst she is supposed to be on leave looking after her granddaughter, and if you have read the previous books, you’ll know that Harte’s relationship with her daughter is strained, to say the least!

The storyline begins straight into the action and managed to send a chill down my spine. There are plenty of bodies being found, and Sasha, the homeless officer who oversees allocating spaces in the hostel, finds herself in amongst the action. I liked Sasha’s character and felt quite sorry for her throughout the storyline. It obviously is a difficult job and she seemed like a good person, but as her story moved on it becomes obvious that she is hiding a secret. I’ve loved Harte’s character from the beginning and have followed her on/off relationship with DCI Briggs and her difficult relationship with her daughter with trepidation.

The story builds up the suspense slowly, giving plenty of suspects to choose from. There were lots of twists, turns and red herrings and the reveal was unexpected and caught me by surprise! I love this series of books and thoroughly enjoyed meeting back up with Gina! The investigation was dark, twisted and full of tension and coupled with Harte’s personal problems, this produced a captivating read! Would recommend!

Another great book in this seriously gripping series. I especially love Gina’s relationship with her granddaughter. The police characters are like old friends to anyone who has read all of the books about Gina and her team. Great plotting as always.

I am a huge fan of Carla Kovach and have read her last 5-6 novels. Great to be back with familiar characters and I enjoyed reading of their development. For some reason, I just never managed to get into this particular story. Unusual for her books and I'm putting it down to me rather than the book. The writing is as strong as ever and I'll still snap up her next release.

This book is one of the best whodunit mysteries that I have read in a while. The story builds more with each chapter and the puzzle pieces are falling into place. However, I was completely fooled into thinking I knew who the culprit would be. This is a well written police procedural starring the famous DI Gina Harte (since this is book #13 in the series).

The creep factor is high from the first scene where a man is killed. Then you move onto a young man who is stalking and haunting Sasha. Sasha works with the homeless in trying to find them place to stay. It is obvious she cares about the people and wants to help them. When another body turns up, the crew knows the deaths are related because of a calling card left by the killer. They just cannot figure out how they fit together. I was gritting my teeth as I read this book while waiting on the other shoe to drop. This killer has a purpose, but no one can figure out the purpose and put the puzzle pieces together.

I like the character of Gina Harte. She is struggling to be a better mother and grandmother, while also doing her job and doing it well. Her daughter, Hannah, is unappreciative and will not listen. I really did not like her character. You can read this as a standalone, but apparently in order to fully understand the character dynamics, you need to start from book #1. However, if you are just looking for a good mystery/police procedural, you will thoroughly enjoy this book.

Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for this ARC. I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Another brilliant book in this great crime series.
Gina is taking some time off to look after her granddaughter but a dead body means she is called into work.
Briggs says he will take care of Gracie but Gina is worried that her daughter won’t be happy with the arrangement.
She’s right to be worried as someone is keeping tabs on her and won’t hesitate to cause trouble.
Alongside this, Gina has another death to investigate and soon has her hands full.
This is a great crime thriller and has lots of layers to the story. I enjoyed reading it as it unravelled and did not work out who the killer was.
This is a brilliant series that I’d highly recommend.
Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.

Their Cold Hearts is book thirteen in the series, and, as always, I recommend they are read in order, as the tales follow the turbulent personal life of Gina very closely. The prologue absolutely gripped me; it was a very intriguing opening! This instalment deals with the sad and realistic situations of homeless people, the author writes about this topic with knowledge, sensitivity and feeling. As with the previous books, this is a fast-paced thriller with well developed, and believable characters and lots of twists. A highly recommended and exciting read.

Book 13 unlucky for some but not this author another captivating edition to the Gina Harte series.

I have followed this series since the beginning and I would recommend that to get the full picture and enjoyment of the books to read them all as there is a lot of history to be read and there worth the effort.

One of the strengths of this series is that it doesn't sugar coat the dilemma and challenges that are faced by the characters not all endings are happy ones it keeps it real which keeps you as the reader more invested in what you are reading.

A talented author who keeps of giving.

As always another Carla Kovach book I just couldn't stop reading!

These books are getting very hard to review now as it seems they are copy and pasted... oops!

But they are just that good, I just can't stop praising them over and over again.

I love learning more and more about the characters as the series progresses. Not just their work life but their relationships outside of the workplace. I just can't wait to see what is thrown at Gina and the team next!

This is the 13th book with DI Gina Harte and it was a great read with lots of twists and turns.
I have read all of the previous books and the only part of the story I struggle with is the relationship between Harte, her adult daughter and granddaughter. I wish this would resolve one way or another but possibly the author wants the reader to feel like this.
I liked this story and how it resolved, whenever I felt like I was beginning to understand who the killer was and why another curveball was thrown.
I will be reading book 14.

Gina is off on leave and has her granddaughter for the weekend but of course work is never far away and when a man is murdered in a hostel, Gina can't resist the call to attend.
This has a brilliant main plot that gets twistier and twister until you've absolutely no idea who the villain is and you'll not believe who it turns out to be. Meanwhile the subplot develops with Gina’s personal life again in tatters, her daughter and her again estranged, but look who just might be back to pick up the pieces.
Another great read in this excellent series.

She shuts the door behind her, relieved to be in the safety of her own home. But tonight her house is the most dangerous place she could be. Someone has been waiting for her, and they know she’s home alone…

Nothing better than a new book featuring one of my favourite detectives Gina Harte and her team, always makes me smile. Carla Kovach is one of my go to authors, if a book has her name on it I automatically buy it and to be honest I have never read a book of hers I did not like.

There are some great characters you will meet along the way that definitely do the story justice. Sasha works with the homeless, she loves the work she does but she is also hiding a secret. A body is found at one of the local shelters in the area and it is like the world is now crashing down around her.

We also have another character Marcie, 16 years old and full of optimism and energy. She runs a crime podcast and is quite immature, then again weren't we all at 16. She is following Gina's case and she herself becomes quite involved with killer, how will this end up for her? You will need to read the book and see for yourself. Great action throughout the whole book, once again the story really draws you in and I read it in two sittings. I would highly recommend this book, thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an advanced copy. All opinions are my own. 5 starts

Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher and author for this eARC.

This is a great addition to a very good series and a book I thoroughly enjoyed. I haven’t read all the previous books and intend to catch up with what I’ve missed when I can. I think this is a very well written book with a good and engaging plot line that flows really well throughout. I really like the main character and the team she works with and here they investigate a murder at a local hostel. I’m always drawn into this authors books quickly and this one is no different. I think Carla Kovach has a wonderful writing style that always grabs my attention and interest, and her portrayal of her characters, their thoughts and feelings is so believable. She certainly knows how to connect with her readers through her writing, and for me her characters become alive and I can picture them in my mind when reading. I liked the way the story was told through certain characters and felt this gave it much more depth. I liked most of the characters with the exception of two. If you like books where the author ramps up the tension and suspense you’ll really like this book and the last quarter of the book was, to put it mildly, one thrilling and compelling read that raced to an ending with everything tied up nicely. I honestly had empathy for the murderer and understood the reasons and actions taken. If you like good, solid police procedurals add this book to your reading list, I’d recommend if you’re new to this author read the books in order to get to know the characters from the beginning.

4 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

DI GIna Harte must find the villain quickly in this latest from Kovach - before something happens to Sasha. Sasha rebuilt her life and works for the community but someone knows her secret,. And someone has been making hang up calls. But now there's been a murder. And another one. Fans of the series (and this will be fine as a standaloem) know that Harte will make the connections in time but it's twisty enough to keep you engaged. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. A good read.
