The author is a genius. Each book is getting better. My Hubbie laughs when I’m reading one of her books as he can watch what he wants in the telly with no interruption from me. Well written story. Great characterisation and a cracking plot. She’s quickly become my favourite story teller
3 simple words - MUST. READ. SERIES.
Book 13 in the Gina Harte series and I swear they just keep getting better! Keep them coming Carla Kovach and Bookouture.
Thank you #netgalley and #bookouture for the eARC.
Another fabulous Gina Harte book based upon a series of murders linked but they struggle to find the connection. I love how we continue to read about barges complex relationship with Briggs and her daughter Hannah. That be instead could easily be a read alone book. Brilliant writing, fab characters and lots of twists and turns
I am a huge fan of the Gina Harte books, and I have read all ofthem in the series. Their Cold Hearts starts off very intense and the reveal at the end was very well done!
When a body is found at a local shelter, Sasha can't help but wonder if it is connected to her past and some strange things that have been happening to her lately. Then another body is found... is Sasha next on the list? Detective Gina Harte and her team must race to uncover the truth before it is too late.
Another great story in the series, loved seeing Gina and the team back again. A thrilling story that keeps you guessing. Brilliant!
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advance copy of the book in return for my honest feedback.
The more this series goes on, the harder it is to review each new instalment because I’m sure I repeat myself by saying how fabulous the character development is, how fresh, relevant and exciting each new story is, and also how brilliant it is to reunite with Gina Harte.
It’s no surprise to hear that I loved this one just as much as the ones leading up to it and yet again, can not wait to see how things develop with certain characters (no spoilers) in the next book.
If you love a good crime thriller series, and you haven’t tried this one yet, I’d highly recommend you do.
Thanks to bookouture and netgalley for letting me review an early copy of their cold hearts .I was hooked from the start. O.M.G carla kovach, again what a brilliant book, a subject which is on a lot of peoples minds at the moment, as they say " everybody is potentially one day away from being made homeless"..
When wesley reid is found in a room at a homeless shelter dead, why? Who did it? DI Harte is on annual leave and looking after her grandaughter gracie, when briggs ginas boss and ex lover calls her for her help. A second body is found, is it a coincidence?
Sasha helps people find accommodation when they are homeless. Is this all connected to sasha in some way? Gina and the team are on the case........ Great thriller, had me on the edge of my seat, i loved it....... highley recommend...... more gina harte please
Another MUST READ from this author in this gripping and very addictive series. As usual devoured this book in one sitting. Hooked from the first to the last page emotional, atmospheric and so believable. So many twists and turns and of course wonderful storytelling. Loved it !!!!!
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC in return for giving an honest review.
#TheirColdHearts #NetGalley Having just finished the previous book in this series, I couldn't wait to start this new installment and it did not disappoint! This series keeps getting better and better. Always gripping with some edge of the seat twists and turns, I read this book in a couple of days. I like the fact that there is the personal storyline of Gina's relationship with Briggs and with her daughter and granddaughter running alongside the main story. Can't wait for the next in this brilliant series.
Knowing there’s a new Gina Harte book is like waking up on your birthday to presents, not knowing what you’re going to get but once opened it’s everything you wanted and more!
Again. a beautifully written heartfelt dedication, if you’re new to Carla Kovach books make sure to read these as they are always relatable and relate to the storyline.
As always a great start with the prologue that stirs up your intrigue and opening chapters that make you curiouser that you don’t want to stop reading.
This is another great instalment to the series, the characters were well developed and a had great balance of backstories to accompany the primary crimes.
I especially loved fame hungry 16 year old Marcie who didn’t shy away from putting herself in danger. We got to see more of the secondary story this time and the relationship between her daughter and granddaughter. I love this parallel storyline as it really pulls Ginas work and home life together as you get to see how hard the work and home life balance is so unpredictable. I feel a confession coming in further books is needed for some home truths for Hannah.
The current world is a scary one with the cost of living crisis which this story brings to the forefront due to the storyline centring around homelessness. It is told in a sensitive way via the stories of people down on their luck in life.
Once again another outstanding addition to a fabulous series!
This wasn't a bad book, but I feel it would have been better had I read past books in the series. I wasn't bonded with the characters which made their personal turmoil less interesting for me. But I did enjoy the characters, they were written very well. This story was a bit slow without much tension or suspense--I would have liked more.
I will always drop everything and move a new Detective Gina Harte book to the front of my “to read” list. I’m always so eager to get back to Gina’s life and solve a new murder/mystery with her! The author does a great job of balancing the mystery while also expanding on Gina’s personal life with her boss, her daughter and how her past is shaping her future. This drives me coming back to the series because I’ve become so invested in Gina’s life. The mysteries are always well written and in this particular book, the “villain’s” motive is heartbreaking. I love how Kovach incorporates modern themes in her books. This book addresses the homeless epidemic and paints these homeless not in stereotypes, but as people down on their luck. A phrase runs through my head that most people are all two or three paychecks away from losing everything. Kovach illustrates just this in Their Cold Hearts.
As always, I highly recommend this series to anyone that loves to read murder mysteries and strong female leads. You do not need to have read the previous twelve books to pick up what is happening in Their Cold Hearts, but you are missing out!
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the advance copy in exchange for my honest opinion.
Thankyou for advanced copy of book 13 of the Gina Harte series. I really enjoy how the characters in book work with each other. Gina herself seems to be in a better place even with the ongoing trauma with her daughter and issues with Briggs! Gina does overall seem a little stronger I felt. As usual the detective let no stone unturned in her quest to find culprit. Looking forward to next.
This is the thirteenth book in the Detective Gina Harte series by author Carla Kovach. I enjoy this series although I have read the books out of order which doesn’t make things easy.
Sasha is haunted by her memories and now tries to keep her dark past a secret. There was an accident and Sasha knows she was innocent but it is something she wishes to remain hidden.
Sasha’s job is finding accommodation for homeless people, work she loves and finds satisfying. She rents an apartment which is in the safer side of town but tonight her house is the most dangerous place she could be. Someone has been waiting for her, and they know she’s home alone.
Her phone rings in the middle of the night and Sasha suspects she will hear the same deadly silence she has heard every night for weeks. Is it a a childish prank or a warning that someone has uncovered her secret?
A body is discovered at a local shelter and Sasha fears her nightmare has come true. It can’t be a coincidence that evidence related to the victim has been found at the same location where the most devastating moment of Sasha’s life took place.
When a second body is found Sasha is disturbed by the face of the victim, someone she hasn’t seen her in a long time, Her old friend and the only other person who knew knew Sasha’s secret.
Sasha now fears that someone is after her.
I enjoy the character Gina Harte and this is another excellent addition to the series. A fast paced plot that is an exciting read.
I would like to thank both Netgalley and Bookouture for supplying a copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review.
This was my 1st introduction to Gina and her world and I absolutely loved every second. Its just a really good, solid police procedural which also has really good story telling so the writing just flows naturally and pulls the reader aling. The characters are all well written and 3 dimensional. They all have their own struggles and strains on too of the job demands. There was also plenty mystery and twists and turns to keep me guessing right til the very end. I can wait to go and start the series from book 1
Their Cold hearts by Carla Kovach is book thirteen in the series. Wow has time flown. I have enjoyed this series from the beginning, and this is no exception.
Gina is on annual leave and looking after her Granddaughter Gracie when she gets a phone call. At first she doesn’t want to answer it, but she knows it is work and she can’t help want a killer brought to Justice. So, when she does answer it she finds out that a body of Wesley has been found murdered in a Homeless shelter. She knows that her daughter Hannah will not be happy thinking she abandoned her granddaughter and will hold it against her.
When Gina arrives at the scene the body is soaked in Cider and a pound coin on their forehead. Gina wanders what the significance is and when a second body is found Gina and her team are doing everything they can before the killer strikes again.
Gina is also fighting her own demons with the problems with her daughter Hannah over Gracie and Briggs betraying her. She is torn between them both.
This is another great instalment in the series and more realistic and sadder regarding the situations of homeless people. No fault of their own they are in lose their homes and end up all bunged up in a hostel mixed with all mixture of people. I felt for Gina. Nothing seems to be going her way. Not with her daughter or with Biggs. This was also a tense fast-paced thriller with great characterisation. Especially her team she works with and a surprising twist at the end. Can’t wait for the next book.
I quite enjoyed this book but not as much as some of this authors other novels . I love the Gina Harte continuing saga too . The story for me was a bit slow and not as tense as some of the other novels , having said that I would recommend this book . Only 4 stars from me this time
So glad to be back with Detective Gina Harte and all her colleagues I love them all I just wish I could say that about her daughter who is awful.
It starts with a murder at the homeless shelter of a man called Wes who is an alcoholic as the the death count goes up there are so many suspects there is no way you would guess who the murderer is Detective Gina Hart certainly has her work cut out it was very exciting and I found it hard to put the book down I was hooked after the first page can’t wait for the next one to hear what happens next for Gina and Briggs.
Thank you to Netgalley and Bookouture for an ARC
Loved it!! The Detective Gina Harte Series is definitely one of my favorites. I was hooked from the beginning and couldn't put the book down because I had to know who killed Wes and was out for revenge. There were so many twists and turns. I was suspicious of so many people. I never guessed the identity of the killer until it was finally revealed. I knew the reasons had to be related to what happened fifteen years prior. I was definitely shocked at who was behind everything. The award for being the most stupid and putting herself in danger goes to Macie. All she cared about was becoming some famous podcaster and didn't care what she did to get the scoop. She was so reckless. The police are at her house trying to protect Macie and her father. What does Macie do? She goes to meet the killer. Her response to everything- I'm eighteen. I can do what I want. She feels sorry for the killer, even though he's murdered several people and terrorized them. What happened to his child is tragic, but it doesn't mean you can kill people. I love DI Gina Harte and wished Hannah could see how amazing her mother is. She's a wonderful grandmother and amazing police officer. Hannah blames her for having to work while she was growing up. Gina needs to stop apologizing to her daughter. Unfortunately, Hannah is more like her dad's side of the family. She probably will not even believe her mother was abused by Terry. Gracie is the innocent victim in all of this. Now she will be around Hetty. I can't wait for the next book in the series. Hannah will still be her miserable, hateful self and DI Harte will need to solve another murder.
Definitely recommend the book and the previous ones in the series. This was a great mystery/thriller. Loved the characters, writing style and story. I can't wait to find out what's next for Det. Gina Harte. So glad DCI Briggs finally came to his senses. There's no one better for him than Gina. She definitely needs him now more than ever. Look forward to reading more books by the author. Loved the book cover.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Bookouture through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Book 13 for Gina and her team and it's an excellent catch up. Gina is juggling with her work as well as looking after her granddaughter for a week. She is called to a murder and the race begins to find a killer. I like the characterisation but Hannah really irritates me! Excellent plotting, plenty suspense and a twist at the end make this another great read from the author. Thanks to Net Galley for my ARC.
