This is the story of two different women, Sasha and Emily. One is searching for answers, and one is hiding from them. But how are their stories related? Sasha stumbles into a babysitting job when she is mistaken by the homeowner for the replacement nanny. Rather than tell the truth, Sasha sees it as an opportunity to search the house for clues about a childhood that remains fuzzy. Emily has been released from a psych unit, and is still under daily nursing care, but what are the memories that plague her so? And are past traumas what these women have in common?
PROS and CONS:
Unreliable narrators are tricky for me - they do add to the suspense of a book, when the reader is not sure whether to trust what is going on or not. But at the same time, they can be a bit frustrating when you just want to know what’s real! The first part of the book is a bit slow, but it does pick up a lot near the end. It was a quick read and the ending took a bit of a twist to spice things up.
READ IT?
If you’re looking for…an unreliable narrator (or maybe more than one), then this one’s for you!

Wow! My jaw was on the floor more than once reading this amazing book. You just absolutely do not see them coming and they fit in perfectly but still....... I really was sure I knew exactly what was happening and then the whole things gets turned on its head! Amazing!!! I liked the characters, I liked the premise, the writing style is good and the plot is always moving forward. There is such an eerie tension built throughout and it literally makes the hairs on your arms stand up. Highly recommended, you wont be able to out it down
Thanks to bookouture and netgalley for letting me review an early copy. I was drawn in straight away, it made the hairs on my arms stand up.....eerie, in places. I loved it. ...When sasha gets a babysitting job by default, she is exactly where she needs to be. The secrets are hidden in the house. Will sasha get the answers she is looking for, connected to her childhood?
Emily has been released from a mental health facility, after murdering her son, or did she????? She has been given a flat next door to the house sasha grew up in, she has carers going in to help her and an unlikely allie, in charlotte her new carer, against louise who emily thinks is trying to get her put back into the facility...... Is charlotte who she says she is? Will sasha find the answers she is looking for, is emily guilty of what happened to her son? Lots of twists and turns, if i could give it 10/10 i definately would. Casey kelleher you have done it again. Brilliant
Thank you to NetGalley and Casey Kelleher for giving me the opportunity to read this book.
If you’re looking for a book to get you out of your reading slump, this is the one. There are SEVERAL twists and turns in this story and I didn’t see a single one coming. Even when I thought I had finally figured it out and the text seemed to confirm it, it threw another curveball at you. I could not put the book down and I loved how the characters came together into one story line.
This is very likely going to be my number 1 book of 2023!
Wow! This book had a few twist that I didn’t see coming. I couldn’t put this down and ended up finishing it in one day. I enjoyed the story being told from Emily’s point of view as well as Sasha’s point of view. The whole time I was reading this story, I had no idea it would take the turn that it did. I was on the edge of my seat! Thank you NetGalley, Bookouture and Casey Kelleher for the ARC! I can’t wait to read for of Casey’s books!
I personally absolutely loved this book! I think the plot was very well written, and it was also fast pace, which I enjoyed! I had multiple theories about the plot twist, however, I didn’t guess it, which makes me love the book even more! I have been on the psychological thriller train for a couple months now and this is honestly one of the best psychological thrillers I’ve read I would definitely put it up there with The Housemaid series by Freida McFadden! The book basically jumps through two point of views, which I definitely love in a book I feel that I connected to both characters however, I do feel I connected to Emily just a little more than I did, Sasha. Emily has the mental illness factor on her side which I definitely love reading about so I think that’s why I connected to Emily more than I did, Sasha. There are definitely some clues in the plot that you can associate with the twist however, I actually went a different way with it and thought the twist was completely different so when it did reveal itself, I was so caught off guard! I’m definitely giving this book a 4/5! I also will be reading more of Casey’s books in the future!
Thank you NetGalley, Bookouture, and Casey Kelleher for giving me this ARC in exchange for an honest review! All opinions are my own!
This book comes out on 5.24.23!
Brilliant thriller I’ll definitely read more of this author. It’s about Sasha who wants to have a look round the house where she once lived with her mother and brother some terrible things happened there and she wants to see if it jogs her memory as she has difficulty trying to remember what really happened. when she knocks on the door a very harassed mum comes to the door and thinks that Sasha is the nanny she ordered Sasha can’t believe her luck when she invites her in that’s when it gets really spooky. Definitely recommend.
Thank you to Netgalley and Bookouture for ARC
I wasn't sure about this book at the beginning as it seemed to start quite slow, but I was wrong. The speed of the plot picked up and had me racing towards its conclusion. When the twists came, they came fast so I didn't guess the ending. It was yet another twist!
It took me a bit to get into this storyline but then once in I really enjoyed it, slightly different to what I was expecting but a thoroughly good, well written book which turned out to be a fast paced read with well described characters although some not likeable.
Thank you to Netgalley and Bookouture for this ARC which I can thoroughly recommend.
Thank you to the author, NetGalley and Bookouture for allowing me to read the ARC of this book in return for an honest review.
This was my first time reading a book by this author. The synopsis grabbed me and I was kept intrigued the whole way through.
The story is told from the POV of two women. We don’t know what their relationship is until the end and then it all ties together well.
I wouldn’t call this a fast paced book and even though it was fairly short I did find the story lagging a bit at times. I continued with it and am glad that I did. There were some really good twists near the end of the book and I enjoyed them enough to want to read more books by this author.
Highly recommended.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for my
Copy of this book.
Sasha returns to the house she grew up in, hoping to look around and refresh some memories. Cecilia, the current owner, mistakes her for the new nanny and Sasha plays along. Quickly she wins over the children and settles in.
Emily has a past. She killed her son and has been in unit to support her mental health. Now in a secure flat, she suspects her cater, Louise of trying to harm her.
This book alternates between each woman’s story. Slowly details from the past are revealed. We learn how their stories link with a shocking finale. So good!
This is my first time reading anything by Casey Kelleher, and I was intrigued by the blurb.
Make no mistake, this book is definitely a psychological thriller. And a dark one at that. With very dark themes and references to child abuse and mental illness, it’s not particularly for the faint hearted.
I found this book quite uncomfortable at times. I did struggle to finish it and had to keep putting it down but I did find myself thinking about it and needed to know the ending.
I find the style of the writing similar to Lisa Jewell, not hugely but there’s an element of suspense that only these great thriller writers can compose.
I recommend this book but only if you can stomach the triggers, as a seasoned thriller reader even I found them quite difficult, but once you push through it’s a hauntingly beautiful story!
Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC of this book!
The Babysitter’s Secret was a slow burn for me. I wasn’t fully committed until about 55% in. I guessed the twist around that time and I think it was just a bit drawn out from there. And a bit of it was implausible, like who really leaves their kids alone with a complete stranger without double checking even a name? But hey, overall still a decent read.
Firstly I would like to thank bookoture and the author Casey Kelleher for access to the babysitters secret.
The review I am going to make is an honest review regardless of the access I received for this book. It should be noted I was not paid for this review and ensure honesty in all my reviews.
Your mother leaves you a letter which makes you question your whole life and dies without divulging the truth. You head home and move in with a family in your childhood home and become their nanny. But you quickly realise the mother is not what you expected.
This book kept me hooked I read it in a day - and was a true psychological thriller. I also think the cover is one that I’d pick up from a shelf before reading the blurb.
I look forward to this authors next book.
I found this book a little slow. Connecting the dots to solve a mystery is fun but this was drawn out and there was no punch to it.
I think this book would be great for anyone new to domestic thrillers but it is probably not ideal for those who are old hands.
I make no secret in the fact that Casey Kellher is my favourite author and I have ready everything she has ever written.
Casey writes fantastic psychological thrillers and I read this in a day, even though I was ill with covid.
I like books where you have to join the dots as you go along and then piece it together as the story unfolds
Thank you Casey for letting me have a advanced copy to read via NetGalley, you completely blow me away with every book and I ca t wait to see what is next
Sasha returns to the house she lived in to see if that will trigger any memories. Emily is recovering from the psychiatric hospital. Sasha is mistaken for the temporary babysitter. Who is safe? Who is in harms way? Those are the questions that will keep you going through this thriller.
JUST WOW
This book was a bit of me, I am quite fussy when it comes to books and also find it hard to get hooked on a book but Casey never lets me down ever! This book it's had twist and turns which keep me gripped and seconded guessing myself each page turn it had me hooked form the prologue. loved how the 2 stories of Sasha and Emily came together and kept me on tenter hooks the entire read, Emily's story I just needed to know more with each paragraph, I loved how it came together while leaving me in ore of her world and what could of possible happened to her. I really thought I had it figure towards the end but this one really is full of twist and turns that just won't disappoint. Both characters are amazing and you will not want to put this book down. I really love how Casey just gets better an better with every book just can't wait for more. She amazes me with each book and this one is definitely one of my most favourite it's dark and and gritty and just fantastic!!
Everything I thought I knew about my life is a lie.In my mother's last letter she revealed a terrible dangerous secret to me,when she died any chance of knowing the truth disappeared.I'll have to do whatever it takes to find out for myself.
When I go back to the house where I was born,I find a new family living the life I dreamed of.When Cecelia the mother mistakes me for the new nannyI take the opportunity to move in.
Maybe being here 24/7 I will remember more and uncover more about the secret. But how long can I stay here pretending to be someone I'm not,and if the children I'm caring for end up in danger what will I do to save them?
The author is very good at keeping you guessing in this dark story with the biggest twist at the end.
Not my favourite book by the author but a good read all the same.
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the ARC.
I have enjoyed Casey's books in the past, but unfortunately this fell flat for me. It was obvious that Sasha and Emily were going to be connected somehow, and the way they were was the only thing that surprised me. What happened to the little boy was obvious. How she was going to intertwine herself into this family's life was obvious. I ended up skimming more than anything. All of the Emily chapters were the same about the girl crying, and pills, and her friends lying to her. It was just too slow and not much suspense. I would not recommend this book.
