The third book in Slayton Thriller series and what a page turner. Full of tension, shocks and a few surprises. Touches of the supernatural but don't let this put you off. Atmospheric, chilling and heart breaking. Go to bed early and read this book I promise that you will not be disappointed!!!!!
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC in return for giving an honest review.
Caroline Mitchell does it again. A fast paced novel full of gripping suspense and action. Loved the setting and the characters were well fleshed out making it easy to engage with every page. Another best seller.
Thank you Netgalley for this arc
The Bone House is book 3 in the Slayton Thrillers by Caroline Mitchell
I loved this just as much as I did the first two books in this wonderful thrilling series.
A suspenseful police procedural that is full of thrills and twists.
A gripping new crime thriller from a very addictive series.
This taunt thriller had me turning the pages deep into the night.
Caroline Mitchell does it again! And I can only hope there is more to come.
She is an amazing storyteller, she always has strong plots and great writing styles that make you sit on the edge of the seat.
"I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own."
Thank You NetGalley and Embla Books for your generosity and gifting me a copy of this amazing eARC!
This book was 3rd in a series. I wasn’t aware of this going into this read however it was fine as a stand alone. Plenty of backstory in the beginning to make it not confusing. The over view of this book was what interested me first and I definitely think I’ll read the other 2 books in the series just because I really enjoyed this one. I like her writing style and I loved each characters individual story as well as the whole. Sarah as a detective I really love. Alex Cross is one of my favorite detectives to follow and she may be a new regular of mine! I personally loved the subtle hint of supernatural elements in this book. I know it’s not for everyone. But overall good read!
I would have loved to be able to read this but I read on kindle. And when I got this it was overlapping words and logo’s and the logo’s were bright but the words of the book were so dim. I tried adjusting my settings and everything was on maximum brightness. I just couldn’t see it all jumbled up. I’m terribly sorry. I will give it 4 stars just so the rating is not brought down. If you want to get in touch and send another way? I’d love to read this. I’ve never had this problem with anything I’ve requested from NetGalley.
Firstly I would like to thank netgalley and Embla books, and a fantastic author Caroline Mitchell's for an early copy of her book.
This is the third book in this series, Ive read book two and still to read book one.Another creepy slayton series. This slightly more enjoyable than book two a better storyline. A pram was discovered in a lake inside a skeleton of a baby,Detective Sarah noble investigates this cold case.a suspect comes forward but did they kill a baby?another great book from caroline.I still enjoy her series Amy Winter books more.A fantastic author looking forward to reading more of her books.
This had so much potential but it really missed the mark. I'm not big on dual POVs and I like them even less when the POV switches mid paragraph without warning. Also, I wasn't a fan of the writing style.
This book is the third in a series about the dark occurrences that happen in the small town of Slayton. I have not read the first two but very much enjoyed this instalment and I think I will go back and catch up on what I have missed.
This book balances between creepy and supernatural goings on and police detective work which is a genre I enjoy and I feel like this book did really well!
Detective Sarah Noble gets put on a cold case following the recovery of the bones of a baby from a lake, found due after a whole flock of crows falls dead from the sky. This little mystery isn’t really covered in the case but it did give the book a nice creepy opening and I wonder if more supernatural things happen (or have happened) in the other books.
I really enjoyed the characters and felt that just the right number of suspects/witnesses /secondary characters were introduced to keep me guessing but not too many that I got confused. The twists were great and I didn’t see them coming but they also weren’t so out there that they were completely unbelievable.
All in all I do recommend this book if you enjoy a good fast paced detective thriller, especially if you also enjoy some supernatural subplots thrown in!
Thank you to Embla Books and NetGalley for an eARC to review.
I think that this book has potential to be good, but it needs some heavy editing in regard to formatting. The story had a tendency to switch perspective without any indication mid paragraph.
I want to say thank you to @netgalley and @emblabooks for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
A rusty old pram is pulled from the depths, with the bones of a baby still strapped inside. It's the moment Cora has been dreading, and someone is going to make her pay. With the help of forensic anthropologist Sophia Hudson, star of docudrama In The Bones, Detective Sarah Noble gets to the bottom of a cold case that refuses to stay in the past. Will she survive the secrets of the bone house?
So this book is actually the 3rd in a series called The Slayton Series. I wasn’t aware before I started reading. I was able to read this as a stand alone though!
It started a little slow for me but picked up after a few chapters! This book is definitely creepy with twists which I like! It also has some supernatural elements which normally don’t interest me but I didn’t mind it. I will be going back to read the first two in the series!
It is always a treat to read a Caroline Mitchell novel. Filled with interesting characters in smart, well-crafted plots, her Slayton series features her trademark creepiness. Sarah Noble has adapted to her new life and her relationship with her colleagues is more defined, making their dialogues spark. The plot is full of twists, so it’s impossible to stop reading. This time it’s Cora, the bookstore owner, who’s at the center of the mystery. There is something dark in her past that has resurfaced when hundreds of birds drop dead and the lake where they fell has to be drained. I love Sarah’s circle of friends, especially little Elliott, a boy who sees beyond the normal world. I didn’t figure out whodunit and kept suspecting the wrong character the whole time. The ending felt a little rushed, but it was still satisfying. I’m really looking forward to the next one!
I chose to read this book and all opinions in this review are my own and completely unbiased. Thank you, #NetGalley/#Embla Books!
received this from Netgalley for my opinion. Sadly I DNF. I didn't realize this is the 3rd in the series. I just couldn't get into it.
I have never read anything by this author before and did not realize this book was part of a series with that being said this book can be read as a stand alone. It took me a little bit to get into however once I did, I thoroughly enjoyed it. I was able to get invested in the characters and plot twists.
A parm is discovered in the lake after the crow’s mysterious start falling from the sky. The discovery of an infants skeleton in the pram is the moment Cora has been dreading.
The police department - detective Sarah Noble and forensic anthropologist Sophia Hudson are bound to get to the bottom of the investigation. But will Sarah survive the bone house??
Thank you to Netgalley and Embla Books for this ARC which I can thoroughly recommend.
This book took me a little while to get into the storyline but then it just got me involved, creepy and well written with interesting characters. I thoroughly enjoyed it until the last page.
Thank you to Netgalley and Embla Books for this ARC which I can thoroughly recommend.
This novel brings to mind The Ghost Whisperer and The 6th Sense with it's unlucky town and sensitive boy. For me this was a slow starter, but a few chapters in and I was hooked. Sarah is a fantastic character: empathetic, relatable, dedicated. Her interactions and relationship dynamics were realistic, but I'm not sure why Sophia Hudson or Yvonne were introduced to the story as they didn't add anything to the plot. I was surprised at how few supernatural, scary, or even eerie occurances popped up, so this would also be a good read for those that just want a tense thriller. I found the town and it's inhabitants intriguing snd although this book functions as a stand alone, I immediately downloaded the first in the series. I can't wait to return to Slayton and learn more of the towns stories.
I've read books by this author before, but not in this series. This didn't stop me from enjoying it as a standalone book, though I'm planning on getting the previous books in the series and reading them in order. I hate to admit it, but the culprit wasn't who I thought it was! The characters were easy to feel for and the plot easy to follow with enough twists to keep me reading
I'm new to the Slayton Thriller Series, this is book 3 but I was able to read it as a Stand Alone.
This storyline hooked me from the prologue. It was emotional and heartbreaking one moment and then creepy and intense the next. I loved all the twisty plot points and how dedicated our main character Sarah was to finding out what really happened.
This was a fast paced easy read, I looked forward to reading more from this author!
Thank you to Net Galley, Caroline Mitchell and Embla Books for allowing me to read an advance copy of this novel.
Really enjoyed this book, I am a big fan of this author and it didn’t disappoint. The story line was interesting and had enough going on to keep me engaged. I read it quickly as it was a hard book to put down. Would definitely gift this book to a crime fiction fan. A solid 4 stars.
We’re back in the creepy town of Slayton. When a pram is found in a lake with what appears to be a skeleton of a baby, Sarah Noble is back to investigate. She has a confession right away, but Sarah knows there’s more to the story. I liked this book better than the last. I felt that Sarah is coming into her own now as a detective. She’s more sure of herself & her abilities. We, of course, see more of the other colorful characters from the other two books, but I liked that Sarah had the leading role. The story had the creepy factor & I thought the mystery was well fleshed out.
The Bone House by Caroline Mitchell, which is the third installment in the Slayton Thriller series, is a gripping new thriller with the intrigue of psychological and supernatural elements. I have not read the previous books in the series; however, I do believe this written well enough to be read as a standalone book.
Caroline Mitchell is masterful at the underlying malevolence tone throughout the storyline, and her timing as to when the tension builds perfectly until everything bursts to the surface.
This multilayered book is full of clever side stories and the depths of characterizations which intertwine and mingle to create an unsettling and hair-raising atmosphere where the tension can be cut with a knife.
Slayton is a small town that is just a little left of peculiar. The legends, the myths, and the townspeople lend to the naturally unnerving atmosphere and feeling of macabre.
The visual vision of the Bone House is truly chilling, and when an old Priam is pulled from the deep of the lake, with the bones of a baby still inside, it’s the moment that Cora, the new mother, has feared since moving to Slayton.
Sophia Hudson, the forensic anthropologist, Elliott Carter, and Detective Sarah Noble will try to get the details and any clues of the this cold case in order to finally close this case for good. What will she find? Even more important, will she survive the Bone House?
***I would like to thank NetGalley and Embla Books, and most of all Caroline Mitchell, for this ARC read and for the opportunity to write my own opinion and unbiased review.***
