Laurel Snow's life is never boring. When she is not hunting criminals, she is dealing with her crazy sister and struggling with her romantic feelings for Wildlife Captain Huck Rivers. And, she is also hunting for information about her dad. Her new case involves a growing list of murdered males, all left with candy hearts shoved down their throats. None of the victims seem to have any dark secrets and share nothing in common. It's a complicated case for Laurel and her team. The killer sets their crosshairs on Huck, adding another level of urgency and stress to Laurel's life. It's a great plot and storyline. I can't wait to see what happens next.

4.5/5 stars! This is the third entry in the Laurel Snow series by author Rebecca Zanetti. Rebecca continues to knock it out of the park with her crime thriller books. Yet another serial killer has come to play and it's up to Laurel Snow and Huck Rivers to save the day. I loved this book and devoured it in one sitting. Looking forward to the next entry in the series.

I received a free copy of this book via NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving a review

The third book in the Laurel Snow series and my favorite so far! Perhaps it’s because I’m loving the characters the more we get to know them but I think this series just keeps getting better. The story is perfectly paced with twists, turns and plenty of red herrings to keep you guessing. Although I did guess the killer this time it was still worth the read! I can’t wait for the next one.

A huge thank you to Netgalley and Kensington Books for giving me the oppurtunity to read "You can die" by Rebecca Zanetti in exchange for my honest review.

Admitedly this being my first Laurel Snow novel was a mini error on my part, because if i had read any previous Laurel Snow novels I just know i would have loved it more. All the recurring characters I should have known and loved to see again were a first for me so I felt it was little underwhelming in retrospect.
The story on itself was amazing. A great atmospheric and page-turning read set in the Pacific Nortwest, where men are murdered and our very own Laurel is put to the task of finding the murderer.

[SPOILERS BELOW THE CUT]
Although I loved the story, at the very end two things happened that took the stars away from this book. One was the accidental pregnancy trope ,which is one of the things that I can't stand in books(which is a me problem not the story's) and secondly because the murderer was discovered not by evidence or hard work but due to bad/accidental timing, which really took all joy of finding out who the killer was right out of my hand's as a reader, or rather just shoved the truth right to me just a few pages left before the end.

If those two things hadn't happened I would have definetely rated the book higher. That being said I loved the story and Rebecca Zanetti's writing and I will for sure read more of her books in the future.

You Can Die
Written by Rebecca Zanetti
Published by Kensington Books
Release Date July 23, 2023

This is the third book in the series but I can honestly say that this can be read as a stand-alone novel. It brings back a couple of our favorite characters Laurel and Huck and sets the two off on a mystery that needs to be solved.
FBI Agent Laurel Snow is brought in to investigate the body of a man that had valentines candy placed in his mouth and stuck in his throat. While Laurel thinks this could possibly be the work of the man’s lover. Except, his ex wife and the only person that would have had a motive to kill him, is Laurels new assistant Kate. He did cheat and lie to Kate, but no one believes that she could have killed him. Except for one person. SAC Norris. The agent in charge of the team. While the agency is overworked, Laurel brings in her trusted friend Fish and Wildlife officer Captain Huck Rivers.
More bodies turn up as they try to find out who the broken hearts killer is. And just as things start to get on track Laurel gets a phone call that changes everything. Could her sociopath sister have something to do with the murders? There seems to be more suspects and now Laurel and Huck seem to be in the killers crosshairs.
This is a fast paced mystery that keep you on the edge of your seat and biting your nails until the end. Just as in Zanetti’s other books, the characters are very well developed and the banter between them is what really makes this book great. The police procedural parts are spot on and you will be rooting for Laurel and Huck while hoping they are not the next victim of the broken hearts killer.

5 stars

Thank you to the author, publisher and to NetGalley for giving me a copy to read in exchange for my unbiased and honest review.

I was holding out judgment on this series but now I am all in…

In this latest novel, the overworked Seattle FBI office and specifically Special Agent in Charge Wayne Norris brings in FBI Agent Laurel Snow to investigate the body of a man found with Valentine candy hearts stuffed down his throat. One body does not make a serial killer but the oddity of the death made him want more of an expert on scene. At first the scene appears to look like an easy case of a jilted lover, except the dead man’s ex-wife is none other than Laurel’s new assistant, Kate. As much as Kate hates her cheating ex-husband, she wouldn’t kill him if simply because that would hurt Kate’s three daughters. You would think finding more victims would get Kate off the hook since it is obvious that there is so much more going on, but SAC Norris seems to be focused on Kate. With most of her team unavailable, Laurel will need the help once again of Fish & Wildlife Officer, Captain Huck Rivers.

Laurel’s investigation bring her to the door of both the law firm of Marshall & Cutting and a very slippery councilman who keep ducking Laurel’s questions.

The most shocking phone call Laurel receives is from the missing pastor of the Genesis Valley Community Church, Zeke Caine, Laurel’s father. The man who assaulted her mother and left her pregnant. When Zeke Caine becomes the next victim of the Broken Heart Killer, Norris is wondering whether Laurel needs to be replaced as lead investigator or might actually now be a suspect. Laurel begins to wonder if her sociopathic sister might have something to do with this particular murder and if the similarities in this murder to the other she is investigating is simply a cover up. This suggestion doesn’t fly well with SAC Norris as it seems his new girlfriend is one Dr. Abigail Caine.

Laurel has too many suspects and not enough motive and she is running out of time before another man becomes the next victim and this time it might be Huck Rivers.

THOUGHTS:
There was many things I liked about the Laurel Snow series right from the start. I liked the characters, not just Laurel and Huck but all the secondary characters as well, Kate Vuittron and her daughters, the older but not entirely washed up Agent Walter Smudgeon even the new tech guru Nester. The one thing I disliked and still dislike in this series is the sister, Abigail, and not just because she is a dangerous narcissist but mostly because she is annoying and unnecessary in the ongoing investigations. She is supposed to be the evil super-genius and dark counterpart to Laurel’s brilliant, bright super genius. But she is still more an annoyance than an intriguing character. Put her in prison and Laurel can go visit her for insights such as Clarice Starling visited Hannibal Lecter.

I think I love all Rebecca Zanetti's series. This one is my second favorite. Each book is different but with the same characters. I can't wait to see what the next book brings and to see what's going to happen between Laurel and her sister.

Book #3 in the Laurel Snow series. Each book could be read as a stand alone but there are some over arcing stories that thread through all three books so far and you'd miss the build up on those. All three books have been excellent, but Rebecca Zanetti is well known for giving readers some very good stories that keep us guessing until the reveals. Currently, she has several series running and I've enjoyed all of them but the Laurel Snow series is my favorite.....so far.
Each character in this series has an unusual personality that adds to the team's strengths. They definitely keep the story entertaining. As the team investigates this series of murders, they will need all the help they can get. A mystery/ thriller series that is perfect for serious fans of whodunits.

repost: as my original review was deleted.

In this installment of Rebecca Zanetti's series about FBI profiler Laurel Snow “You Can Die” you’ll find a fast-paced, action-packed narrative that honestly, like Rebecca Zanetti, does not disappoint! In Genesis Valley, a remote community in the Pacific Northwest, Laurel is tracking down yet another serial killer, notably drawing from the events of the previous two books. The focus this time is men who appear to be law-abiding citizens. The complex family dynamics of Laurel, her equally clever, cunning and scary half-sister Abigail, and her nasty father all contribute to the twists and turns of the story.

This is the third book in the Laurel Snow series.
As a FBI profiler Laurel is chasing another serial killer. This one is targeting men and leaving their bodies near churches and counseling centers with valentine candies in their mouths. Washington Fish and Wildlife Captain Huck Rivers is assisting Laurel as they try to navigate their relationship. Of course Laurels half sister Abigail is making things complicated for the investigation especially when one of the victims is their father.
This book has romance, murder, twist and turns and family drama. The characters are likeable and story is well written and entertaining. Highly recommended. I am looking forward to the next book in the series.

I really enjoyed this introduction into this world and I just couldn’t get enough of it. I just so thoroughly enjoyed meeting these new characters and getting to go on their journey. I will most definitely be reading more wonderful books from this author.

I enjoyed this one very much. Laurel and Huck are an interesting couple for sure. Laurel fascinates me as she is so different from most of the heroines I read about. I really like her character. She is a brilliant FBI agent. I really like Huck too. He is a typical hero at times but he has many different qualities that I love about him too. I love how he supports Laurel in whatever she does even if he is not 100% on board. He is protective and strong but knows how to give Laurel the space she needs for her job. This is a great story, I had no clue who the killer was. I really enjoyed the advancement of Laurel and Huck’s relationship. They are really good together I believe because they understand each other and support each other’s careers. I love how he has embraced her brain too. I am sure we will get more of them since there are still some open parts of their story going on. I can’t wait !

I really like Rebecca Zanetti's books, but I think this series is my favorite and Laurel Snow my hero. Laurel had just return home to Genesis Valley from an assignment in DC, when she is called to a new violent crime scene, since she is the head of the violent Crimes Unit of the FBI. A nude man is found in a purple tent, stabbed many times and his mouth filled with Valentine candy hearts. Unfortunately, the body was found by his daughter, who had put slipped a tracking device into his wallet. His daughter is also the daughter of Kate, Laurel's office manager. and then more bodies start piling up. Meanwhile, her relationship with Washington Fish and Wildlife Captain Huck Rivers is advancing, and her half sister, Dr. Abigail Caine, who is a scary, narcissistic criminal genius, keeps trying to get close to Laurel. Laurel would like nothing better than to put Abigail in jail. Same thing with her father, who raped her mother, but he has been missing for 5 years. And then he returns. So much going on in Laurel's personal life and job, and she is feeling so well. Flu or something else? The author creates wonderful characters, snappy dialogue and adds several red herrings before the killer is revealed. Not the person that I suspected.

I read an ARC, which was listed on NetGalley.com. The is my unbiased and voluntary review.

As always, Rebecca Zanetti wows us with Laurel Snow and her big brain.

You Can Die is the fast-paced third installment in the Laurel Snow series, and it's as fantastic as the first two. I'm not a big series reader, but I truly can not get enough of Laurel Snow, Huck and the other cast of characters. They are the perfect blend of crime, romance, murder, mystery, and action, and they always keep me turning the pages, never able to guess what's going to happen next.

In this book, readers will find out more back stories featuring Laurel's half-sister Abigail, along with learning more about her father Zeke. Her relationship with Huck continues to grow, and the murders that she begins to investigate hit close to home.

Overall, another wonderful book and I can't wait for #4, because the way this one is left hanging, there absolutely needs to be!

Thank you Kensington Books and NetGalley for the eARC!

Okay, this book is kind of hard to review. Good mystery, but it was often kind of cheesy, and the writing was clunky at times throughout. I think it just needs a bit more polish to it. But, I definitely did want to finish to find out who the killer was, and it was quite a twist.

Thank you to Net Galley and the publisher for allowing me to read this ARC.
