What a fantastic book. The perfect fall and spooky vibes to be added to all fall reading lists. This series just gets better and better. The combination of fun Halloween activities (costumes, pumpkin caring) and spooky ghosts all coming together at a dark murder kept me on the edge of my seat. There are a few different possible storylines and explanations for Lindsey and her friends to wade through to find the truth; all while trying to stay safe and also not anger their resident ghost. I enjoyed the entire story and am so attached to these characters now. I enjoyed every bit and cannot wait for more!
An enjoyable addition to great series with plenty of seasonal touches and a mystery that will have you guessing until the end.
Murder at the Pumpkin Pageant by Darci Hannah is the fifth in the Beacon Bakeshop Mystery series and takes place at Halloween. Perfect, because Lindsey lived and had her bakery in an abandoned and haunted light house. She lived there with her friend, Kennedy, her dog, Willie, often Tucker, Kennedy’s beau and a police officer, or Lindsey’s boyfriend, Rory. It had been disconcerting because the past several nights she had discovered various costumer apparitions, clowns and such, hanging in her oak tree. Everyone agreed it was simply a prank but Lindsey had had enough and asked for help from a local high school teacher who agreed to bring the seniors out for a pumpkin carving contest and food. Maybe it would stop if they met her, and liked her. It went well. The next major hurdle was the camera crew arriving to film an episode of their ghost hunting show for the Travel channel. Kennedy was to be a part of it, wearing a Go-Pro camera. Lindsey would have preferred to leave her resident ghost, Captain Willy, to entertain himself, but it was all planned, along with parades and other celebrations. It was all OK until Kennedy had her wits scared out of her when she ran headlong into another hanging apparition. The problem was this was a dead body: the high school teacher who had helped Lindsey.
This really set everyone off, for different reasons. Rory was frightened for her safety, the police were unhappy with a murder, the high school was devastated: Leslie Adams had been very popular. There were so many possible suspects that the police were overwhelmed as were Kennedy, Lindsey, and Rory, who had helped the police previously. This was a scary story, no doubt, perfect for Halloween. There were all these outsiders in town. And Leslie’s dog was missing. It turned into a good mystery with the oddest reasons for the killing. Lots of mis-clues and wrong assumptions. It was not as polished as some cozies, but every bit as good. A terrific Halloween read, full of pumpkins and pumpkin spice.
I was invited to read a free e-ARC of Murder at the Pumpkin Pageant by Kensington, through Netgalley. All thoughts and opinions are mine. #Netgalley #Kensington #DarciHannah #MurderAtThePumpkinPageant
Loved it! How does Darci Hannah do it? Do what you ask? How does she make me say this is the best book in the series except I have said that with all of them!
The characters are amazing and the storyline is so good. I absolutely enjoyed every page. It took me 72 hours to read this one only because life gets in the way. I would have devoured it within 24 hours if I had the chance to sit down and read all day! Darci pulls you into the story and I absolutely love "A Beacon Bakeshop Mystery" series.
Lyndsey has been in her lighthouse/bakery for a few years now and the lighthouse is haunted or so they say. When Lyndsey's best friend, Kennedy, wants to do a podcast on Halloween night for her listeners Lyndsey isn't too keen on it. But Kennedy has another surprise she has been in contact with Ghostbusters guys to do a show on the lighthouse. What could go wrong?? One question you shouldn't ask. I'm not going to give it away because I hate spoilers. Just know that this is the best book in the series.
Highly recommend this book and the series!
LOVED IT!
In book #4 of A Beacon Bakeshop Mystery , Halloween is upon the small town of Beacon Harbor , Michigan . Lindsey the owner of the Beacon Harbor lighthouse Bakeshop becomes the victim of Halloween pranks by a group of the local High School students . When Lindsey finds dummies in her trees dressed as various fictional characters ,our baker becomes spooked and asked for help from the school's favorite teacher . Lindsey never imaged that the next body found hanging from the tree on property would be the teacher dressed as a clown . Lindsey and friends decide to set out and find out who wanted her dead and why .
A great mystery and wonderful additional to the series , it had me guessing until the very end ..
I especially loved the added touches that Darci Hannah adds to her series - the recipes sound delicious,,also her resident ghost Captain
Willy all add to a fun read .
I just reviewed Murder at the Pumpkin Pageant by Darci Hannah. #MurderatthePumpkinPageant #NetGalley
Lindsey has renovated an old lighthouse into her home and bakery. It's Halloween, the festivities are starting, and Lindsey is baking up lots of pumpkin-flavored treats! Everyone knows Lindsey's lighthouse is haunted, and this year, a group of teenagers has tried to break in to get a peek at her ghost. Lindsey has also reluctantly agreed to let her best friend do her podcast from the lighthouse with professional ghost hunters in tow. But things go sideways when they all stumble upon a fresh corpse in Lindsey's yard.
What an entertaining series, and it's quickly becoming a fave! The atmosphere in these books is so fun, with a lighthouse bakery setting that is charming and cozy despite being haunted--although this seems to be a fairly friendly ghost! The food always sounds delicious, Lindsey is likable, and the secondary characters are fantastic, from Lindsey's mom, a former well-known model, to Lindsey's hunky boyfriend to her perceptive and precious Newfoundland pup. The story was well-written, with good pacing and an intriguing plot, including some danger, shenanigans, humorous dialogue, and enough red herrings that I was kept guessing until close to the end. I loved all the Fall vibes and Halloween fun, and the book included several delicious recipes, many for yummy pumpkin treats! Cozy mystery lovers and anyone looking for a charming mix of murder, ghosts, cute dogs, and amazing food will want to add to your Fall tbr!
Thank you to NetGalley and Kensington Books for the opportunity to review this ARC. I loved it!
Perfect as standalone, but fourth in the Beacon Bakeshop series where Lindsey Bakewell left Wall Street to rehab a Michigan lighthouse into living quarters and a bakery. Halloween is on the horizon and a number of pranks have turned up around the bakery. It's only when a prank turns real that it starts to get dangerous. Peopled with an array of engaging and interesting characters, the book has red herrings and suspects galore. Great addition to the series.
It is Halloween in Beacon Harbor, Michigan and fun events are planned, including a pumpkin carving contest to be hosted by Lindsey and the Beacon Bakeshop, a costume parade, and even a podcast by Lindsey's best friend Kennedy and a group of ghost hunters to see what they might find in the haunted lighthouse that is Lindsey's home and her bakery. When things get scary in the lightroom of the lighthouse, all the ghosthunters run out of the lighthouse afraid, only to find a body hanging from the oak in the backyard. I enjoyed seeing the characters of the small town again and the mystery was multilayered with plenty of suspects and the author did a great job throwing red herrings to keep me guessing the identity of the person who killed the popular teacher found hanging. This is another good addition to the series and is filled with yummy sounding foods with pumpkin in the ingredients. I received a copy for the purpose of an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are mine only.
I adored this whodunit. I was so sure I had the ending figured out and then BOOM! WRONG (best kind of ending). I love Kennedy and her need to bedazzle things, although this time I am glad it wasn't to the same extreme as Clara the goat. Halloween in Beacon Harbor sounds like a delight and the Beacon Bakeshop would definitely be on my list to visit. All desserts pumpkin delight readers in this book, along with Lindsey and her adorbs Newfie, Welly. Spooky pranks, a ghost hunt and of course a murder round out this delightful addition to the Beacon series. MORE PLEASE!!
My hearty thanks to Kensington Cozies and Netgalley for this ARC. My opinions are my own.
Halloween brings out the best in Beacon Harbor. A little harassment from the local kids provides some angst for Lindsey and the bakery. They keep hanging dummies in the oak tree by the lighthouse. When Kennedy and the Ghost Guys play up the ghost in the lighthouse on Halloween night everyone gets a frightening experience. An actual body is hanging in the oak tree. Lindsey gets involved when the dog of the teacher killed is missing. A long ago story, an author who needs a good book, a professor who betrays a trust and more leads you on a merry chase to discover the killer. It's always good to return to this little community. The characters are funny, quirky and enjoyable. The story keeps you guessing and the dogs again save the day! Great read!
I was given a copy of this book by netgalley in exchange for a review.
This was a fun book. Totally surprised at the ending. Really enjoy this series, can't wait to see what happens next!
Is it me or is Ken getting worse? I love all the side characters and the mystery was fun. However our MC and her sidekick bestow kinda irked me l; lots of speculating and it was whiplash with all their suspects. And Ken was just kind of crazy in a not good way.
With Halloween approaching, Lindsey reluctantly allows her friend Kennedy, along with the professional team of a ghost hunting show to investigate the lighthouse. When Kennedy and the team are spooked by happenings in the lighthouse, they run out, only to encounter a dead body hanging from a tree.
Who had reason to kill the high school teacher? What role does Lindsey's lighthouse play?
Fourth in the series - enjoyed catching up with Lindsey and friends.

Lindsay reluctantly agrees with her BFF Kennedy's plan to do a podcast at the lighthouse - with ghost hunters-but Captain Willy isn't that worried they'll fund him. And then there's a body. A body hanging in a tree and all bets are off. Lindsay, Kennedy, Rory, and Officer Tuck (along with the Captain and Wellington the dog) must figure out the identity of the victim, the reason for the murder, and the identity of the villain. It's kinda classic paranormal cozy stuff with a zippy plot, characters who like one another, and a fun setting. Even though it's the latest in a series, it should be fine as a standalone. Thanks to netgalley for the ARC. Oh- and recipes!
From the adorable atmospheric cover to the yummy recipes at the end, Murder At The Pumpkin Patch is the perfect autumnal read! Darci Hannah has outdone herself with this installment of the Beacon Bakeshop mysteries.
Lindsey's lighthouse is all decorated for autumn since Halloween is right around the corner, but it is not her favorite holiday. The locals are convinced the lighthouse is haunted---even her bestie, Kennedy, insists on filming her live ghost-hunting investigation there. Pranks and tricks plague Lindsey as the holiday draws near and culminates with a murder! The hunt for the murderer takes off on a twisted path at a quick clip.
I am drawn to this series by the friendships, the marvelous setting, and interesting plots. Of course, the recipes are a wonderful bonus! I recommend this fun series to those who enjoy cozy mysteries, close-knit small town settings, and fun story lines,
Thank you #NetGalley,#KensingtonCozies for the eARC to voluntarily read and review. All opinions are my own. I enjoy sharing fun cozies with friends and followers.

This was a fun Halloween cozy murder mystery that I thoroughly enjoyed. I know, I always say the same thing for book reviews. 🤣🤣 There's only so many ways to say you liked a book! This was great. Fall and Halloween are my favorite and this has all the vibes. The mystery was a nice pace and I was questioning my thoughts about who the killer could be.
Lindsey Bakewell has a Lighthouse Bakery in Beacon Harbor, MI. It's Halloween and her Bakery is being pranked by local HS tricksters! She decides to hold a pumpkin carving party to try to distract them. Her friend Kennedy decides to also do a podcast at the "Haunted lighthouse". Well things get a little crazy…..and when everyone is freaking out , Kennedy finds a dead body which only adds to the chaos. Now the murder mystery begins. Very entertaining!!
Also, recipes are included. That's always a plus! Lol
Out July 25.
Thank you to the publisher and netgalley for the gifted copy. All opinions are my own. My review will be posted on Instagram, Bookbub, Goodreads, and Amazon once it publishes.
It's Halloween in Beacon Harbor, Michigan. Lindsey Bakewell's Lighthouse Bakery is getting pranked by some high school kids and she's not happy about it. Thinking out of the box, she and the favorite high school teacher come up with a plan to stop the pranks without pointing fingers. They plan an elaborate pumpkin carving party and this seems to work as the kids now think of Lindsay as a friend.
Lindsay's best friend Kennedy has her own ideas for Halloween. She plans a podcast centered around the Haunted Lighthouse and has invited some Ghostbusters to participate.
The pumpkin carving party is a great success. The podcast, not so much since the lighthouse began glowing green and everyone ran screaming from the building. Kennedy ran into a dead body hanging from a tree which made the screaming increase and gave Lindsey her next crime to solve.
This is a great series and I've enjoyed every book. Looking forward to more!
Since Lindsay is a baker, several of her recipes are included
This is a fun Halloween themed cozy mystery. The mystery portion was strong. Even though I guessed the killer's identity, I was second guessing myself until the end. I enjoyed this spooky holiday read.
I enjoyed reading Murder at the Pumpkin Pageant. It’s summer as this book comes out and I’m drawn to the idea of cool fall days and pumpkin laced treats.
Lindsey Bakewell and her team at the Beacon Lighthouse Bakery are turning out some delicious sounding pastries and other baking delights as they prepare for the Halloween festivities.
Lindsey’s lighthouse is haunted and that gets highlighted in this book.
I like Rory, her boyfriend, and Welly, her large dog. Like Rory I am not a big fan of Kennedy, Lindsey’s friend who is living with her. Kennedy is pretty shallow and creates many of the issues Lindsey faces in the books.
There are some interesting suspects in the case of who killed beloved teacher Leslie.
I enjoy visiting Lake Michigan and Beacon Harbor. It’s a town with a lot of characters.
I recommend giving Murder at the Pumpkin Pageant a try.
Thanks to Netgalley and Kensington Cozies for the opportunity to review the book.
This is the 4th installment in Beacon Bakeshop series. Lindsey Bakewell is preparing for Halloween and her lighthouse is getting pranked by some teenagers and in hopes of ending it, she hosts a pumpkin carving contest and meets Leslie Adams and instantly wants to become friends. Lindsey’s social media friend Kennedy decides to host a live podcast on Halloween about the haunted lighthouse and invites a tv ghost hunter show. Kennedy embellished her experiences with the lighthouses first keeper Captain Willy so she expects this be a “show” and did not expect for the lighthouses green “ghost” lights to appear or to hear the voice of Captain Willy warning of danger. The ghost hunters and Kennedy rush out of the lighthouse and they go one way and Kennedy rushes out the back and right into the dead body of Leslie Adams hanging from the oak tree with her Halloween contest. Now Lindsey, Rory (her boyfriend), Kennedy, Tuck (police officer and Kennedy’s boyfriend) are trying to solve the mystery. Add in a famous author wanting to write a book about the lighthouse makes for an interesting and entertaining mystery. This is a great series and you will be entertained and guessing as to who could have done this terrible crime. Recommend.
