This book gets off to a great start and keeps the momentum going very well! The focus is on self-esteem and relationships. The characters provide the opportunity to examine these elements of life from every angle.

I thought to myself that relationship should be taught at school but then I wondered how would you do that!. The main character was fortunate to have many people who tried to help him through the pain of growing up.

The only downside for me was the final 30% of the book. It seemed that every single issue at every level worked out for absolutely everyone. This was great but how realistic is that? The effect was that it was a bit too cheesy for me.

The author deserves a lot of credit for this book. It provides many insights to life that the reader could relate to. A most enjoyable read.

This is the kind of book that makes it seem easy to tell a good story. It was a lovely break from my string if nonfiction. There were some fun twists in the book that kept me reading but also just really relatable. Kind of reminded me of the feeling I used to get watching The Wonder Years..

The Stars Don't Lie: A Novel by Boo Walker
I really like this authors stories. He is not afraid to get into the emotional parts of his characters, bringing out the fears, longings, potentials etc.
Dr. Carver Livingston returns to his hometown in Vermont after something he did twenty years ago, changed many lives, including his own.
He took something he wanted to peruse from his hometown when he left, and that was a love of animals, and he became a successful veterinarian in North Carolina.
But now his mother needed for him to come home to visit, as she and his father were going through a difficult time. Once there he also sees an old teacher that had helped him through a major problem, but now he felt she also was in need of help.
Through all that goes on while he is in Vermont he is able to reconnect with people he had let go of and help them, but also he is able to find and heal himself at the same time.
I can't wait to read more of his book.
I would like to thank NetGalley and Lake Union Publishing for a copy of this book.

In this latest novel by Boo Walker veterinarian Carver Livingston has never been able to let go of the incident that happened to him 20 years ago in high school. When his parents are all of a sudden getting divorced and his mother begs him to come home, he returns to his home town for the first time in 20 years. There he is forced to confront what happened to him and how it still affects him and his parents.

While Carver is home he reconnects with a favorite teacher who helped him through his difficult time and is now having issues of her own. Helping her and his mother starts to help Carver realize that everyone has issues and its not all about him.

I am afraid this book was not a hit for me. Although I enjoyed Carvers teacher and that storyline, The other story lines with his unresolved high school incident issues and his parents frustrated me. Without getting into any spoilers I felt that both of those arcs had very unrealistic elements to them which kept me from being immersed in those storylines.

What a book! "The Stars Don't Lie" is all about family, second chances, forgiving yourself & others and moving on. This book had me laughing, crying and hanging my head in shame while reading because it touches on so many different aspects and emotions. I also liked the astrology topic in the book, taking the time to stop, breathe, reflect and think every once in a while by looking up at the stars. It resonated with me as I love star gazing but never thought of it in that way before. "What do the stars say to you?"

Thank you to @AmazonPub and #NetGalley for the digital ARC of #TheStarsDon'tLie. The opinions expressed here are entirely my own.

Despite dealing with some heavy issues (depression, suicide, divorce, aging), I found this to be a fairly light, feel-good read. And while the plot was easy to predict, it was still a nice read.

Carver Livingston hasn't been home in more than 20 years. Fleeing Teterbury after high school, he found his purpose as a vet and focused on becoming successful as a way to overcome his past. When his mom calls him home, he hopes to get in and get out without seeing anyone but his parents. But the universe has other plans. And pretty soon, Carver is facing his fears head on and learning that everyone has some darkness in them, but friends can bring you into the light - if you just let them.

After a tragic incident in his senior year of high school, Dr. Carter Livingston hadn’t been back to his home town in 20 years. Afterwards, and with time, he was able to pick up his life again thanks to some heartfelt help from two people very dear to him – his teacher Mrs. Cartwright and her husband. He became a successful veterinarian and patented a brilliant product that can help dogs recover from a common injury that requires surgery to repair. But he couldn’t face his family and friends and all that being home would dredge up for him emotionally.

When his mother calls to inform him she and his father are getting a divorce and she needed his help and support, after much cajoling, Carter decides he’ll return briefly and secretly for the sake of his mom. That doesn’t go as planned as soon he is reconnecting with his former high school love interest Shannon, his best friend Elliott and Mrs. Cartwright; all the while trying to figure out how best to help his parents and trying to maintain his sense of self.

It turns out the situation with his parents isn’t exactly as it seems on the surface, the woman he’d been pining over for the past twenty years was not his soulmate after all, and the teacher who motivated him in high school needed his help most of all.

Carter is a wonderful character full of blocked emotions and angst over what happened that senior year in high school. In coming home, he, in time, realizes that trying to pretend that year never happened wasn’t helping him – it was dealing with it head on that helped him heal.

I loved his relationship with Mrs. Cartwright and the wisdom she gently imparted to Carter - especially how it relates to the title and using the stars to realize how we are all part of something much bigger than ourselves. I thought his father was marvelous. We want to disapprove of him but we don’t realize at first that he is the strong, silent type who protects those he loves even while putting his own needs aside. All characters have flaws, and Carter’s mother reveals hers as the story unfolds much to the surprise of her son.

Highly recommend.

I have read all of Boo Walkers books and as like the others this was an amazing story. So heartfelt and such raw emotions in the book. The characters were so honest and real. Always excited when he has anew story.

After twenty years and haunted by a past fraught with tragedy and heartache, veterinarian Dr. Carver Livingston, travels from his home in Asheville to visit his parents in his hometown of Teterbury, Vermont and attend his 20th high school reunion. Upon his return, Carver quickly finds his family and favorite former teacher struggling with challenges in their lives. Having not seen his friends or high school crush since he left after graduation, the past quickly comes back to remind him of the man he once was as he tries to reconcile that with the man he has become.

As a big fan of Boo Walker, I was disappointed in feeling this book was a bit too “saccharine”. With that said, I loved the relationship he characterized between Carver and Mrs. Cartwright and their tender moments were beautiful.

The Stars Don’t Lie had me from the very first page. It’s all about second chances, family, love … Carver is a very successful veterinarian in NC and he did something in his past that caused his whole life to instantly change. It affected him and his whole family 20 years ago. This was so beautifully written that I just could not put it down. And the ending … let’s just say you better have tissues ready!! Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this early release in exchange for my honest review.

This is a book to savor. It's truly one of the best I've read this year. As a former teacher, I was touched by the loving tribute to teachers everywhere, but it was so much more than that. Centered around 38 year old veterinarian, Carver Livingstone, The Stars Don't Lie shows that--scary as it is--you can go home again.

There were so many things I loved: The realistic characters (there is at least one who any reader could relate to,) decades-old angst, relationships with friends and family, life lessons, forgiveness. and letting go. Carver's epiphanies were powerful. Although a man of science, he can be slow on the uptake when it comes to figuring out cues from people. It's that "different kind of smart" that exists in the world of academia. But he's a good man who takes some brave steps when its necessary. Steps that lead to a satisfying, organic ending that will leave the reader brushing away happy tears.

The Stars Don't Lie is a winner! I definitely recommend it.

Boo Walker is a great story teller. I took my time reading this book because I didn't want it to end. Carver couldn't face what he did when he was senior in high school and because of it hadn't returned to his hometown for 20 years. Because of issues with his parents he returns and re-connects with one of his favorite teachers and best friend who help him overcome his troubled youth. A very enjoyable book.

The Stars Don't Lie
A Novel
by Boo Walker

The Stars Don't Lie is a book of the year, This book is a huge recognition to teachers.Mrs. Cartwright was the well loved high school teacher to the teen Dr. Carver Livingston. Sometimes becomes more thana hurting soul can withstand, Carter had known. His had not been home in 20 years because of feeling he was less than. Ms.Cartwright had been the one constant when the younger Carver need the love and life lessons. This time, Mrs. Carthwright feels the loss of her husband, and is readyto give up. Carter refuses to allow this.
This book, is written from the heart. It shows, with every chapter there is hope, there is forgiveness, there is times to live upfront, and to forgive and yes, move on. My gosh, the beauty of this book is so deep. Thank God for teachers such as Mrs. Cartwright to love more than enough. Dr.Carver Livingston finallyfound his life.
