I absolutely love this series of travel guides focusing on walking routes of the National Trail system in England. The books are very detailed covering practical information, history, points of interest nearby, trails descriptions, flora and fauna to be seen etc. Each route includes beginning and end of a particular section of trail. You don’t have to do the trail all at once or can choose a section of interest to you. There are suggestions for lodgings and accessible food as well. The descriptions and photos enhance the book. I’ve found places I’d like to visit whether I walk the trail or not. This guidebook, like others in the series will be great resources to serious trail walkers and the weekend wanderer.
An incredibly detailed guide to the North Downs Way walking routes. I look forward to doing parts of this route! Everything you can possibly think of is covered from history, to considerations, risks and points of interest in each town! Cant wait to use it, it will come in very handy!
This is my favorite series of travel guides. I don't know that I'll ever get to do the walks but I really enjoy reading about them. The North Downs Way is a section of England south east of London that includes Dover and Canterbury, which were my two touchpoint to the region. The book takes readers through each section of the way providing a list of places to stay, points of interest, and places to eat. I like that the book is very practical about things like skipping sections and how long it will actually take. I love the photos and it really made me want to wander the countryside.
This is the official guidebook to the North Downs Way National Trail. It’s filled with practical information on getting to and from points on the trail, where there is (and isn’t) easily-accessible food and lodging, how to navigate farm fields, and much more. The book is divided into sections, each covering a day’s walk, with maps, start- and end-point info on train access, and very detailed instructions to help one stay on the path. Each section also includes information on sites of cultural or historic interest, many with photos. The definitive companion to have while walking the Way — or armchair dreaming!
Thank you to NetGalley for this advanced reader’s copy.
A good guide for planning a hike of this path. I haven't yet been able to put it to use but it was well put together. I found the format to be well thought out.
