A solid 4 stars. A workplace rivalry to lovers that’s easily consumed. Equal parts charming and realistic.
Casey wanted the job that Alex got. The ice starts to thaw when the sparks start to burn. Alex is incredibly charming and the way he wants Casey to believe in herself was so heartwarming.
I throughly enjoined this book. I definitely want to read more of what Clare Gilmore has to offer.
Who doesn’t love a workplace romance? Some times it’s definitely worth it! I really enjoyed all the diversity in this book. From Brijesh being bisexual to Casey having two dads.
From the outside, Alex looks like he has it all put together. The family name, the wealth and the knowledge but there is more to the story. With a father that basically never wanted anything to do with him and only throw money his way. Alex has always wanted more.
Tracy believed in Casey when she was applying for her job. Her and her advice is one of the main reasons Casey was hired. Little does Casey know that she would later show her appreciation to Tracy but helping her with a favor.
When Lance, Casey’s ex shows up in a bar Freddy is ready to give Casey the play by play. I loved it when he said ,“ I bet Alex would kiss you”. I was thinking “Go Freddy”!
Casey and the boys. I really loved that they all went out together! Freddy had me so intrigued too. I could totally read a book about him.
The supportive friend group (Miriam, Sasha, Brijesh) was a great addition to the book and learning about those characters. I hope this turns into a series where I can see get a look into what happens in their lives.
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for the EARC! As always, my review is my opinion and thoughts.
When I read this book originally I did not realize it was a debut novel! Clare Gilmore crafted a really beautiful story that reminded me a lot of the Hating Game.
I often find that modern day enemies-to-lovers stories feel very far fetched. However, this story was very believable, and the characters and plot were very realistic. I really enjoyed Casey and Alex’s journey from enemies to friends to lovers and the story kept me entertained throughout. Alex is an amazing book boyfriend, and I really related to Casey and her desire to challenge herself.
I will definitely be reading any other books that Clare Gilmore writes!
Funny, sweet, and oh, so good. Rom coms aren’t usually my cup of tea, but I absolutely adored this one. Alex and Casey’s evolution from enemies, to friends, to lovers was such a wonderful ride. Their wit and banter is so infectious.
Alex doesn’t believe he is worth loving, and Casey slowly shows him that’s not the case. They both grow professionally and personally through their journey together.
I do wish we would have seen a more in-depth view of their relationship in the epilogue instead of just an overview of what they’ve been up to.
Spice was 2/5.
3.5
Casey and Alex meet when vying for the same job. Casey discovers that Alex is the CEO's son and seethes when he's given the job. Eventually he grows on her when she discovers that his family situation is more complex and he's got big dreams too.
I liked each of their characters, and how they each felt they weren't quite what their parents expected. I didn't get romantic feelings between them, more of a friend vibe to me.
A lot of time was spent beefing up the actual workplace stuff, which made little sense to me (like, she works in finance but she hangs out with her cooking friends shooting videos in their workspace? And all the time spent on the CEO and her superiors asking Casey to get the DL on chairpersons and I dunno, it was lost on me and reeeeeaaally tangential.)
Thank you to St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.
Such an amazing book! Alex is now my new standard for what a man should be, I mean if he doesn’t like Disney it’s a problem. I will never shut up about this book it’s so good. I will be buying the paper copy to display in my room because that’s how In love I am with this book. Now I just need someone to madly love in with in an elevator with me. This book is enemies to lovers, one bed, and he leaned against the doorframe tropes! And a must read for hopeless romantic Disney lovers I can’t wait to see what you write next 💗
A very believable workplace kind-of-enemies-to-lovers romance. Very fresh and funny, with competent writing, and relatable characters who act generally as real people do. Sweet, spicy and cute. While it's not my personal cup of tea (I prefer a slower pace), I believe there are many of my patrons who would greatly enjoy it. Would make a great choice for those just starting to venture into the romance genre.
A lovely enemies-to-lovers romance. Casey Maitland loves what she does for a living, number and financials are her thing. But she wants more, or least she thinks she does because mainly because she wants to impress her more artsy dad and the legacy of her late mother. So a new creative job opens up at her workplace and she applies for it. She and her friends think it’s a slam dunk but unfortunately the position is given to someone else - Alex Harrison, who also happens to be the board chairman’s son. So she decides to hate him from the start and it should be easy to except….he’s just so smart and charming and handsome and likable. And then their colleagues notice their tension and decide to put them in a work project together and then the sparks fly for better or worse!
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Griffin for sharing this ARC with me in exchange for my honest review.
I absolutely loved Love Interest by Clare Gilmore. This is the first novel I read from the author, and I will be reading more from her in the future! I will definitely recommend this book to the readers at my library. It is well written, has a balanced amount of romance, spicy, and humour. I also loved reading about the digital media industry and finance.
This was a very good book, although the finance talk was a lot a lot of the time.
I absolutely loved the food allergy representation, it's something that I don't think I've ever seen before and because I have a deadly peanut allergy, made me feel really seen.
I pretty much loved Alex's character from the first interaction in the elevator which also doesn't happen that often. Reading his backstory and learning about his character really just set everything into stone for me and my love for his character.
I loved reading about the relationships throughout the book, the familial and friendships especially.
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Griffin for an eARC of this book.
I loved Love Interest! To be perfectly honest, I’m a sucker for a workplace romance so I went into this with very high expectations. I thought it started a little slow and it did take me a little while to get really invested in the story, but by 25% I was invested. I thought it was very enjoyable to read a story where the main characters were rivals but still seemed to respect one another, without it being cheesy. The last three quarters of the story were very well paced, but I actually found myself wishing we saw more of Alex and Casey interacting at work outside of meetings. In general this was a great read that I will most likely pick up again!
This was an adorable rom-com read! I found most of the characters to be extremely realistic and relatable.
I am typically a thriller reader, but sprinkle in romance when I need a break from the murders and mysteries. This book the perfect read for that. It even had its own workplace mystery that I found myself trying to figure out before Casey.
I would have preferred a slower burn at the beginning of Casey and Alex’s relationship. The enemies phase of their relationship almost wasn’t long enough for me to consider this an “enemies to lovers” trope, more so just a workplace romance. Overall, I feel this was a very engaging debut novel. I thoroughly enjoyed this read and look forward to reading future novels by this author.
*Special thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for this ARC, which I received in exchange for an honest review. The opinions expressed here are my own.
I loved the premise of this book. It even had a nod to the "one bed trope" that I love! Casey and Alex start off on a rocky foot but soon find that they have more common ground than they realize. the push and pull of these two are well-written. There was no miscommunication between them that caused problems; it was real issues that kept them from each other. Casey's job was a part of her but did not make her as a character hard to understand if you weren't financially minded. This book kept me turning pages to see how everything would shake out.
Casey loves her job working in finance at a magazine but still puts her name forward for a project manager position. When she doesn’t get the job, she unsurprisingly doesn’t immediately warm to the successful candidate, Alex (who just happens to be related to the chairman of the board). Alex and Casey clash frequently at work until they are forced to work closely on a project together.
What I loved:
-enemies to lovers
-workplace romance
-characters felt mature, good communication
-friend group
-workplace scenes (video production, comments)
-good character development with clear backstories
This was a very enjoyable read! I loved both Alex and Casey as characters and immensely enjoyed seeing them get together. They had great banter and chemistry.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the advanced reading copy!
This was a great debut and I really enjoyed it! It was a workplace romance, and I feel like the romance was a secondary plot. As someone who works in corporate America, its always fun to see how it is portrayed in stories. And I love the representation of women in STEM and management. Highly recommend picking this title uP!
Thank you to NetGalley, St. Martin’s Press, and Clare Gilmore for the eARC!
This book was SO charming. The characters were loveable, the story was captivating, and the romance was cute. This book did a really nice job of creating multidimensional characters, and I really felt like I knew them by the end of the story.

Well this was a solid little workplace romance that caught and held my attention throughout.
I really liked the realistic balance that was struck between being instantly attracted to someone, but being partly in denial about it. There was something about the way that this one was written that felt genuine in its delivery and how the relationship developed. It allowed space for the immediate spark and attraction, without trying too hard to force the spice and have things progress too quickly. I love me some good banter, and this is not disappoint on that front - those quick little exchanges and interactions really help with the build-up, and ultimate delivery.
As per usual, I liked the side characters and what they brought to the story, and the representation of the characters and a variety of relationships did not go unnoticed by me.
It was a fast and satisfying read, that pulled me out of my own life for a little while. What more could you want?

This was a really cute rom-com about a workplace romance. I loved both Alex and Casey’s characters. The romance and their work both shared the spotlight, which at times I would get a little confused about some of the business-y things being said, but it was enjoyable! I will say the enemies to lovers goes 0 to 100…Casey only hates him because they went for the same job, but that seems to dispel very quickly. Their love connection was really cute, but I felt it for sure the strongest at the end in London. Personally it was a little slow in the beginning, but I really enjoyed it towards the end! Overall this was such a great debut novel and I would definitley read more by this author!
I just revieved an ARC of Love Interest by Clare Gilmore and #NetGalley and I am so glad I did. This book is all the perfect, feel good fun of this genre.
Casey, our loveable, nerdy, slightly insecure, but wholesomely good protagonist is such a relatable character who is a pleasant mix of funny and serious. She struggles with some awesome dilemmas and gains better understanding to herself throughout the book. She is sweet and I found myself inwardly cheering for her.
Alex is all tortured teddy bear wrapped up in a charismatic package. The book reads as an enemy to lovers trope but with much more content. Super fun, fast read.
Really enjoyed this (semi) enemies to lovers workplace romance. I usually don’t love an enemies to lovers romance but this one was light on the actual “enemies” part and things progressed with plenty of communication and understanding. This story has personal depth, emotional growth, mutual respect, clear communication, career growth and plenty of enjoyable moments. The cast of characters were delightful and interesting. The story played out well and I was happy to read it!
