I had high hopes for this book but unfortunately it fell short for me. I read it with my daughter who also was not to interested.
Thank you, Netgalley, for a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. This was super cute and fun! Kids love would you rathers about pretty much anything, so I could definitely see this landing with kids 7+. It was grouped into categories or themes, which was entertaining. I wasn't sure about the totaling up points aspect at the end of each section, but it added a collaborative aspect to the activity. This could be used in the classroom for conversation starters, community building, and even launching an opinion writing unit. Very fun!
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are my own.
Would you rather ? Summer Edition kept us ( two 30 somethings, one 17 year old and one 7 year old) during along car ride with construction. It ledt to many interesting senerios and answers
Would You Rather is one of our family's favorite games, so of course this seemed like a perfect little book for our long car rides in church or sports commutes. And yes, it created quite a bit of discussion, but also, some of the discussion was based around how rather confusing some of the questions were.
For example: "Would you rather use virtual reality to r ide the world's best roller coasters or explore the depths of the ocean?" Now, after much discussion, we gathered that the assumption here is that you are doing virtual reality in both of these scenarios but it is actually unclear in how it's written. This is an issue quite often in the wording of the book, which often times creates confusion in the questions.
Also, some of the questions seem ignorant. Maybe this is just our family getting too in to the game, but this question for example, "Would you rather drink salt water or lake water?" seems really uneducated...like, um, both are really unsafe, and this book in particular isn't really stepping outside of reality in most of the other questions, so ones like this were weird.
Okay, so, maybe we took the questions too seriously! Ha! But that was indeed part of the fun we had with them.
However, the book is written as a competitive game, which I didn't really understand, so we didn't do the game or have winners. We just asked the questions and talked about them! Which in my opinion was funner than making it a win or lose kind of game!
❓ I’m sure we’ve all played the Would You Rather game before, right? It can be fun! This book is full of summer-related questions to ponder.
❓ This will be great for entertaining kids! I particularly think it would be fun to use on car trips. There are over 160 questions!
❓ There is also a scoring/competition element built into the book.
❓ If you need summer break or road trip activities for your kids, this book should be in your arsenal. It would be great for classrooms, too!
Thank you @Netgalley and Zeitgist/Z KIds for an eARC of this book, which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.
Every kid loves would you rather questions. This book turns asking would you rather questions into a fun game that can be played over and over again. This makes a great gift for summer travel, summer get togethers, and really any time of year. AN excellent addition to the series and a highly recommended purchase
This book is full of summertime writing prompts with participants choosing, "Would you rather...?"
I love these fun books of thoughts, games, and playing with friends.
What would YOU rather do? State your claim. Make your case. Convince others. This a fun way to practice your persuasive writing (or speaking) skills.
Fun for everyone!
4 Stars!
Another fun read! These books are fun to read with family and friends. I enjoyed the different chapters and the summer theme, you can make it a game or just read the questions.
Would You Rather is an interesting book, It has always been a popular question game. However this was billed as a children’s book and I feel that many of the questions are inappropriate for this age group.
Honestly this was a hit and a miss among my kids. One liked them and will read them over and over. My others liked it shortly and then became disinterested in it. I'd recommend it for kids aged 7-10.
This Would You Rather? book was so much fun for my daughter (8) and I to read together! She kept asking if we could do another chapter all the time which is a big win for my eight-going-on-eighteen year old.
The summer theme was a lot of fun and gave us ideas for activities to do. It also let us talk about things she didn't know about yet, like setting up a projector in the yard, frenemies, and summer (away) camps.
I also like the conversations it sparked between us as we explain the whys behind our choices. Bonus for the giggles induced from having to make some hard choices!
Would You Rather? Is such a fun book. It's a great icebreaker, road trip companion, and family time addition. Creating the opportunity for hours of laughing and interesting answers.
Thank you NetGalley and Zeitgeist Publishing for the free eARC copy of this fun book & the chance to give my candid review.
What I'm Starry-Eyed Over:
🤩 We used this game as a transition from wedding planning (for our oldest son) into family dinner where we wanted to not talk about wedding planning for a while. The questions/topics are great discussion starters for family memories, bonding, and making future bucket lists!
🤩 I wasn't sure about (or if I'd like) the competition/scoring/judging part the book. But, as soon as my husband described it as like in Apples to Apples, I totally understood and enjoyed. We rotated people as judges and judges picked a favorite explanation for their choice.
🤩 I would recommend using this in small/short sessions instead of all at once. The book can last your whole 7-10 day family vacation! Our teenagers got distracted first to be active and bump the volleyball around. Later, they were inspired to bake some cupcakes (rainbow chip is a favorite around here) and have a fire on the patio--all great things.
What I'm Wishing/ Dizzy About:
💫 We're so ready for summer & summer break at our house!!!
A cute would you rather guide for a road trip. However, I feel like it was a bit outdated already. How many families still listen to the radio all together on a longer car ride anymore? It'd probably be satellite radio, which doesn't really go out. Others just seem kinda tame and not funny or odd. A good would you rather makes you pick between hard choices, not easy ones.
Would you rather's are right up my family's alley. My kids love them, but typically, it gets a little redundant. No one can come up with an original one and the game doesn't last too long. These seasonal books are perfect for that. It brings in an array of questions, variety and fun! I was so tickled pink with this summer edition!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an electronic copy to read in exchange for an honest review.
The questions in here were pretty hit or miss. I wouldn't ask all of them; especially for younger kids, but there were still plenty that would b fun to debate over.
Witty, cute and funny! This book came in handy on a long car ride! We enjoyed it and it was written really well! Great for all ages.
This is a cute, unique addition for kids! The questions are simple and thought provoking. Can’t wait to use it with my younger siblings!
Cute and fun book for anyone who is looking for some entertainment and a good laugh. This summer edition has a way to keep track and see who likes to have the most fun out of everyone in the group! Thank you NetGalley for the chance to read this book in exchange for my honest feedback!
This was one funny and engaging book. Was used for a couples night and everyone could not stop laughing at some of the choices / answers. 10/10 will recommend for anyone looking for an activity for their next get together.
