This book was a journey into some of the most chillingly depraved brains and the crimes that were a result!

Spanning the time period between the nineteenth century and the present, the crimes are some of the most gruesome I have read about, some I knew but most I did not. The author has focused on certain objects or artifacts associated with each crime and explained its relevance.

Some are the murder weapons, others are the getaway vehicles, poison bottles, ransom notes, masks and even ballads written about the crime! In some cases the perpetrators themselves have, after being caught, crafted souvenirs that constitute the murderabilia of their horrid crimes and are much in demand.

Recommended for those who like the true crime genre.

This was really interesting! I feel like there's more to expand on here. This book was well organized, concise, and entertaining, while still being informative. I would be extremely interested in talking about other kinds of murderabilia and the history of collectors and the most sought after items, etc.

I really loved this book. It was interesting, gave me details I didn't know before and in a few cases even told me about an entirely new to me cases that I now need to find more book about! I absolutely loved that item/cases was just a couple of pages long. This was a great book to take with me and pull out whenever I had a couple of minutes free.

This one was well written as all of this author's books are but this one was just kind of boring. It was short snippets about random murder trinkets. Some famous some not. Some are not really trinkets. The first was a gravestone. But whatever. It was shallow facts boiled down from real cases. Not for people who want in-depth facts of cases.

I’m a huge fan of true crime so I instantly gravitated towards this book. I’m also the person that has to google something when someone tells me not to. This book was fascinating.

This book was fantastic. It gave the information in a straightforward manner, without glorifying the perpetrators of these crimes. Reading digitally allowed me to zoom in on the photos, so I do wonder if the physical book will be large enough to give adequate space to the photos. All in all, I really enjoyed this one.

This book is a must for true crime aficionados!!! It's fascinating and full of pictures and history and a lot of crimes I was not aware of. I would recommend this to anyone, even if they aren't that much into true crime. It's chock full of history as well. Great read!

True crime aficionados will like this one. Very short, concise articles about 100 crimes along with pictures of items involved with the crime. Some famous ones, and some that most of us have not heard of. My high school students will love this.

With podcasts developing like My Favorite Murder and Serial, the popularity of the true crime genre seems to have had a comeback in recent years. Although with older books such as Helter Skelter and In Cold Blood, I'm not sure it ever really wasn't popular.

Harold Schechter's Murderabilia: A History of Crime in 100 Objects is an interesting look at 100 true crime cases in a few pages each. Of course there are the standard cases most people have heard of like the Black Dahlia and the Manson murders. But there are some cases that may have been infamous in their time but are probably more obscure to modern-day people.

Schechter begins each case with an image of an object that has to do with it (such as the shotgun used in the Clutter family murders). I thought that more could have been woven in about each object in the case (sometimes it's barely mentioned), but all in all, I did find Murderabilia a worthwhile book for true crime readers.

MY RATING - 4

This was quite an interesting read! I didn't know about many of killers (the well knowns are included here, too). I found the book to be easily read (most entries are about two pages in length), but I did have to put it down sometimes because I couldn't read about any more death. The book seems well researched and provides insight on the human condition. I know I'll have students interested in this topic and will find the book fascinating.

This was such a fascinating book! I am always so interested in crime scenes and the surroundings of cases as much as I am interested in the victim's and their lives. This focuses mostly on the collections and items that have been found or used at a crime scene. While I do not condone the purchase or collectors who keep these items, I understand their value to the crimes committed.

If you enjoy learning about true crime I'd recommend trying this one as it offers a different lens!

In Murderabilia, veteran true crime writer Harold Schechter presents 100 murder-related artifacts spanning two centuries (1808–2014), with accompanying stories of various lengths. This is a great book if you are interested in true crime. It consists of 100 true crime affects left by the killer or something that is attached to the killings. There is also information about the killer and killings. I also learned new information that I didn't know before. There is music that relates to some killings and movies that were made about the killings. Some of the murders that I never knew about makes me want to discover other books about the killings. It really is a handy book to keep around for short readings of true crime murders. If you like true crime, then this book is one for you!

Murderabilia is typically defined as objects relating to a murder, the murderer, or the victim. While the stories in this book were certainly interesting, especially the ones I hadn’t heard of, I’m a little disappointed that some of the objects pictured really had nothing to do with the crimes themselves. All in all I’d give this one two stars.

Murderabilia is the perfect shelf addition for anyone with a true crime book collection. Each historical item is shown with a backstory of the crime. This book is perfect for leisure reading or if you need a holiday gift idea for your crime loving friend. Each story is well written and fascinating, however they are super dark and detailed. I had to skip over a few that are too disturbing for me. Overall, this unique book would make a fascinating read to add to your list.
