Thank you to NetGalley and HTP/MIRA Books for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Tatum married a man that her father approved of and whom she thought she loved, a man who would go on to become a small town’s pastor. That man, however, expected his family to obey his rules and to live by God’s laws; Adrienne always had trouble living up to that standard. She rebelled against the idea of religion and instead wanted to be seen as her mother and father’s daughter, not as the child of Jesus Christ. The harder her father pushed religion, the harder Adrienne pushed back. Tatum did very little to defend Adrienne, and eventually stood by as her husband kicked their daughter out.
A few years go by and Tatum decides that she wants to make amends with Adrienne. She starts visiting her at work every week, but keeps those visits secret from her husband because she knew that he wouldn’t agree with her decision. One week, Adrienne isn’t at work- and no one has heard from her.
Tatum immediately jumps into action, but no one takes her seriously. Everyone- Adrienne’s friends, the police, even her father- thinks she just ran off for a few days and that she’ll be back when she’s ready. But Tatum knows something isn’t right. This is confirmed when she finds a man following her, a man who claims to be Adrienne’s fiancé when confronted. But Tatum has never heard of this guy before. Can she trust him? He seems to be the only other person invested in finding her daughter, so surely his intentions must be pure…
This was a fast read that hooked me in right from the very beginning. I wasn’t a fan of how often the perspective shifted from character to character, but I did appreciate the twist that happened in the later half of the book. Overall, this was a solid read and an easy book to recommend for those who like addicting, fast paced psychological thrillers.
Tatum has just begun to reconnect with her daughter when she goes missing. No one seems to believe anything is wrong besides her and her daughter’s fiancé that she didn’t know of.
This was a decent entertaining read. The pacing was slow at times but I am glad that I stuck with it. I enjoyed the different perspectives and short chapters. I loved the mother/daughter aspect of the story. It gets very exciting in the last quarter!
“She was good. Honest. It’s why I’d fallen for her. And I knew she’d fallen for me, too. I’d just had to figure out a way to remind her of that.”
In a Quiet Town comes out 8/8.
This was definitely fast paced and the mystery and suspense was gripping, but I didn't care for the multiple POVs. I thought the storyline was well done and the twists were super good.
I liked this enough. I’ve only read one book by this author and have enjoyed it. This moved into the mystery pretty quickly with multiple POVs and nerve racking suspense. I recommend this to all my thriller and mystery lovers.
As always AMBER Garza presents an amazing edge of your seat thriller as you learn what the secrets are in this quiet town and a mother searches for where her daughter is and who she should trust to help her.
Sure to be a Summer hit, this perfectly paced thriller delivers with shock, twists and perfectly written characters. With a blurb from the author of IN MY DREAMS I HOLD A KNIFE, I knew this would be one I'd enjoy. Looking forward to reading more from this author!
A fast read, though it seemed like it could have been tightened up. A mystery and a coming into her own story of a mother, who has always done the right thing, been a good pastors wife, trying to re-connect with her estranged daughter. The daughter is missing and her boyfriend tries to help her find him. Style had an interesting way of providing a twist but overall , it was a good read but not one I will remember
Thank you Netgalley & HTP Books/Mira for an eARC of In A Quiet Town in exchange for an honest review! I love Amber Garza, so I was thrilled to see this one available as an early copy ahead of the August pub day.
This book follows Tatum, a mother, who realizes her estranged daughter is missing. Nobody believes her. That is, until she meets a man who claims to be her daughter's fiance. The thing is, she has a budding relationship with her again, and she's never heard of him.
I sometimes struggle with books that have a religious theme to them. This one isn't OVERLY that, but Tatum's husband is a pastor, so there is an element of how their family is expected to behave in town and how Adrienne, the daughter, was raised. This didn't take away from the story for me or deter me from it, but just something to keep in mind.
I love the suburban setting here. Missing women is an all-too-common, hot trope for thrillers, but Garza differentiates herself with this novel and keeps the plot unique and binge-worthy. I have to say, I love a good, "wait, what?" moment in a book, and Garza absolutely delivers this. Can't say much more, except, ENJOY. This is going to be a smash hit this summer.
I enjoyed this book, particularly the main characters being in a pastor's family and the difficulties that come with that. It moved into the mystery pretty quickly with multiple points of view and delicious, nerve-wracking suspense. Recommended for mystery and suspense lovers. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC.
One of my library patrons recommened Amber Garza to me so I thought I would try it and I'm so glad I did.
3.5 stars. This was a good read, but I thought that the pacing was a little slow. Not a bad read, but it did not wow me.
I would like to thank netgalley and the publisher for an advance copy in exchange for an honest review. I read the author’s last book, A Mother Would Know and enjoyed it so I was interested in this based on the premise alone. When Tatum reconnects with her estranged daughter, she is excited, but their reconnection is short lived when Adrienne goes missing and no one seems interested in finding her and when her supposed fiancé makes himself known, Tatum really needs to know what happened to her daughter and if she’s still alive. Told between multiple perspectives this book was hard to put down.
This book was sent to me electronically by Netgalley for review. Mystery and mayhem.the characters are realistic. The story moves quickly. This is a talented author. The story would make a good television show. There is a theme of mystery running through it.
Tatum is thrilled when she’s able to reconnect with her estranged daughter, but shortly after they get back together, Adrienne disappears. It seems no one will listen to Tatum’s concerns for her daughter’s safety, not her co-workers or even the police seem to care. The only clue lies in the man who has appeared, claiming to be Adrienne’s fiance. He says all the right things and seems to be worried about her daughter, but can Tatum trust him with her daughter’s life?
A mother is determined to keep her daughter in her life.
Thank you HarperCollins for the digital review copy.
