Scott A. Davis is an uncommonly accomplished person -- sucessful tech founder (a world he walked away from), world traveler/adventurer, author, and happy family man -- but these essays on a life's worth of collected wisdom come across as rather common advice (as in, "A fear carefully observed loses its power" and "There is life after failure, but only those who have failed know this truth.") But that's not to say that I didn't find value in them: By grounding each life lesson in a personal anecdote and ending with prompts to "Contemplate" and "Adapt", Davis is sharing what he has learned; asking readers to slow down (he recommends no more than one essay per day) and decide for themselves which bits can be used to improve their own lives. In this way, Davis succeeds in his core ambition (to act more like a guide than a teacher), and I have no doubt that anyone could find something here that will improve their own lives.
An informational self-help book. I enjoyed the emphasis on gratitude and appreciation for other people that come.
