Dark Wolf by Kate Douglas is a refreshing change in a paranormal – humans are aware of the supernatural and they all live among each other. Being a huge paranormal fan, I was hooked from page one. It has been awhile since I have read such a great story. I am in love with the world Miss Douglas created.
Lily is the daughter of the Alpha Leader of the Chanku and the CEO of his company. Sebastian is the son of a cult leader and struggling to find a place in his new world. When they meet, their two worlds collide changing everything they have ever known.
There are some plot lines that are based on simple misunderstandings that turn into huge issues; leaving you thinking (and sometimes frustrated), “if only they would have just talked to each other.” This doesn’t really work in a good story, other than to annoy a reader. I have now read an excellent story that works BECAUSE Sebastian and Lily DID talk to each other and were honest. It showed the true intelligence of these characters. Bad things still happened and the suspense was fantastic. I never once questioned the characters or found them lacking in any way.
Every character, in Dark Wolf, was so well written. I even loved the bad guy… I could feel his evil darkness.
The Chanku have the ability to shapeshift, among other things. They get their power from love and loving each other. They are very open about their sexuality and need tons of sex to thrive. There is a lot of great sex in Dark Wolf; all sorts of combinations, including same-sex and multiple partners. It’s the way of the Chanku and its delicious!
Nothing seemed forgotten in this complex world. Every part of this story had a conclusion. With Dark Wolf, I found a new must read author. I am already looking forward to Book Two.
What I learned from Dark Wolf is that love is still the answer and it really does conquer all.
