LOVED this book!
Love the characters and the roles they played.
Read this book in a few hours. Couldn’t put it down!
You have to read this author! One of my favorites.
The stepfather was such an enjoyable read, and the ending had me absolutely glued to my kindle! I was so frustrated with Madelyn and how she treated her Husband Damen and daughter Connie, a definite recommend read.
Another great book from one of my favourite authors.Interesting from the point of view of characters in the book made it a great paced read and I enjoyed it even more.
What a thrilling read! It had me captivated until the very end. I love a good page turner, and this was definitely one of those! Would recommend.
With thanks to the publisher, and Netgalley for an eARC to read and review.
In a nutshell, married couple get divorced, wife remarries but daughter and ex husband do not like her new partner at all. Are they right to be concerned? Some books are fairly short but seem to take forever to read and vice versa. This definitely falls into the first category! Endlessly going over the same things and the mother? Well the kindest thing to say about her is that she was very slow on the uptake. Sadly too many novels right now sound fantastic until you start reading them and they turn out to be just mundane but I’m sure others will enjoy this story.
Lots of tension in this one, especially as the plot reaches a climax. The first half is a bit slow but the second half makes up for it.
This was unputdownable. From the first page to the last it was action all the way.
Damon is a man with problems. He destroyed his family by signing up for another tour in Afghanistan. He also destroyed his mental health. After the break up of his marriage to Madelyne Damon is trying to get his life back on track. He is seeing a therapist, he owns a gym teaching teenagers and women how to protect themselves. Basically he is a good guy with anger issues and a liking for alcohol. Connie, his sixteen year old daughter, is the only bright spot in his life. He would die to protect Connie. Maybe he’ll have to.
Madelyne has remarried a rich and successful restaurant owner, George and is deeply in love with him. Connie loathes George, she suspects that he is not who he pretends to be. Madelyne just wants a quiet and happy family life but what lengths will she go to and how often will she turn a blind eye to make sure that happens. Madelyne is actually very irritating in the way she allows herself to be manipulated and bullied by George but as the book progresses the reader understands there is a reason for her behaving the way she does. When the chips are down Madelyne does show a surprising inner strength.
I loved the build up as George is revealed for the person he truly is and the only person who can’t see it is Madelyne. When will the scales fall from her eyes and what will happen when they do?
Not the typically the type of story I enjoy although I did enjoy it at times. Everyone has different interests and for some reason this one did not hold mine.
After Connies mother remarries she really does not like or trust her mother's new husband George but is there something sinister going on? I was addicted to this book and could not stop reading until I found out the whole plot because I could not have predicted that.
The Stepfather follows the story of Madelyne, a divorcee who has found new love with a restaurant owner named George. While everything should be perfect, her daughter Connie strongly dislikes her stepfather. Connie believes George is not who he seems to be and she turns to her father, who of course quickly agrees. Connie decides to expose George for who he really is but no one is prepared for the actual truth.
This was a good read. I did find the first portion repetitive and a little slow but the tension did pick up toward the end. The characters were well developed and the storyline itself was good. I'd like to read another by this author as I enjoyed the writing style.
Thank you to Netgalley, the publisher and the author for the opportunity to read this book for free. This was my honest review.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book as it offered a compelling and engaging storyline. However, I did notice a degree of repetition in the frequent arguments between the two central characters. While these disputes effectively drove home the central point of the narrative, I believe the story could have advanced at a brisker pace had the author not dwelled on these conflicts for too long. Nevertheless, the way the book concluded was truly satisfying, and it left me with a sense of fulfillment. This positive experience has piqued my interest in exploring other works by this talented author. I eagerly anticipate delving into their literary world once again.
It took a while to get into this book but once the tension picked up so did the pacing. I would have prefered that right from the beginning
This was a fun, twisty read. I found the first half to be a bit slow but the pace picked up as it went along. I was eager to find out what this stepfather was really all about and it did not disappoint! Thank you to the publisher and the author for an ARC copy in exchange for a review.
A nail-biting exploration of deception and betrayal awaits in this enthralling thriller that keeps you guessing until the final revelation.
This was a good quick read. It started off slow but picked up the pace toward the middle of the book. It was hard to identify with Madelyne at first. She came off as your typical toxic parent. Learning her backstory showed her in a different light. Overall this was a good read. I enjoyed it.
I didn't enjoy this book at all & I do normally enjoy Theo Baxters books! I found the story very repetitive for the 1st 75% of the book where the 2 main characters just kept arguing back & forth with not much else going on! It won't stop me from reading more of this authors books though!
I found this book to be quite repetitive which ruined the reading experience for me. I didn't relate with or like the main character.
This book does show alot of time your feelings and instincts are correct and you should listen to them. This story showed not only that but sometimes other people are too blinded by wanting love that they don't see what's right in front of them. Thankfully the main character had a loving and caring dad and believed her when her mom didn't. This was so thrilling I flew through it in 2 days.
Thanks to Netgalley, the author and the publisher for allowing me to read this ARC.
I have read a couple books from Theo Baxter before and have enjoyed them.
Will recommend this to anyone looking for a thriller.
I requested this book as i was drawn in by the cover and thought it looked interesting.
This book was full of twists and turn galore that you don't see coming.
Thanks again for allowing me to read this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
5/5 stars
Book was a roller coaster read, and you can't wait to finish it! The relationship between Madelyne and her stepdaddy was well written and described and you made me think about my own.
