This is a fun book! If you have kids and like to be out in nature, or wish you could be this, this is a good read. It's set up by seasons, and has recipes using foraged items, crafts that fit the seasonal theme, and other activities to do as a family. I really enjoyed it!

3,5*

Crafts, recipes and other ideas to honor the changes of the seasons. I think this would be great in particular for families looking to start their own traditions, maybe even outside of religion. For myself (husband, 3 cats, no kids) there wasn't a lot that I would actually keep doing, but browsing through this book was still fun.

Thanks to NetGalley and Chronicle books to provide me with an ARC to read in return for an honest review.

Crafts, recipes, and family friendly ideas to honer nature through out the seasons. The projects are varied and and range from simple to more complex, all while celebrating materials and ingredients that are natural and seasonal.

This is a lovely book with a lot of seasonal ideas for using nature. Unfortunately, it was deleted from my shelf before I could finish it to publicly review it, but what I saw was quite nice. As a gluten free family, I was a bit disappointed in the focus on wheat recipes, and there are a lot of them. I would have also liked more crafts geared towards older children. Still a lovely book and a great addition to the nature/seasonal family books out there.

This is an oddly specific-yet-varied book that I feel would appeal to a very, very small population. One would need to be crunchy enough to be comfortable foraging and know where to get ingredients like dried marshmallow root and dried echinacea; of the political persuasion that would welcome reading about the "Thanksgiving myth taught in most schools;" and located in the northeastern United States. The most interesting part of this book is that there were several small sections that shared seasonal practices from other cultures, but many of them had a political slant to them. Jewish culture is a strong theme throughout the book so I would imagine that if you are Jewish this book may have a greater appeal.

This book missed the mark for what I had hoped it would be.

I love a tradition. We have so many in our family and it brings me joy to pass it on. This book gave me so many wonderful ideas to add to our family. Such a lovely book.

I’m obsessed with this book. I originally got it as an advanced review copy, and loved it so much that I went out and bought it.

I’ve been feeling a need to take note of the seasons recently, and the cycles of the year have been really drawing me in. This book is the perfect companion to any family who wants to follow a yearly natural rhythm and create new traditions.

Each season has a short section about how the season is celebrated around the world (as well as personal anecdotes) and then quickly flows into crafts, activities and recipes to celebrate the time of year. I’ve now used it for three seasons and my kids and I are obsessed.

There are other similar books that provide better activities for all ages, but this one does a nice job of discussing seasonal herbs and produce. Recommended for larger libraries that have a diverse non-fiction collection and a population of homesteaders.

The Seasonal Family Almanac is a book brimming with ideas for cooking, crafts and natural products to make and use with your family and friends.
It follows the seasons and the celebrations within each season and has food and crafts to make during each. There are recipes for teas and ideas for activities, definitely something for everyone to enjoy.

This jam packed almanac has everything a nature-loving, whole food eating, make from scratch person could ever want or need, organized by microseasons and peppered with lovely personal stories. As much as I’d like to be the person that uses this book, I’m not, so while I enjoyed reading this almanac I probably won’t use any of the recipes or do any of the activities. However if I WERE the type of person who made their own cleaning supplies and dry shampoo, this almanac would be in constant use. The authors are clearly knowledgeable and very creative and do a great job of inspiring fellow and future nature lovers. A lovely book chock full of ideas! Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the advance electronic copy. I was happy to provide an honest review.

I really enjoyed this book. It's perfect for families with young children with fun crafts throughout the year. It would be wonderful for families that are homeschooling, or Waldorf. I wish I had this book 20 years ago, but I will gift my Daughter this book as soon as it gets released. I definitely recommend getting the fiscal book as opposed to the digital version.

A really lovely book that is both inspirational and can serve as a reference book for young families looking for activities to do. It would make a lovely present any time of the year.

Thank you to NetGalley for an advance copy of this book. It's sure to find a beloved spot on the shelf in many households.

The activities within this almanac were cute but I felt like they skewed toward families with younger kids. I have older school-aged kids, and found myself wishing I’d read this in the toddler years.

The author is very knowledgeable about homesteading-type stuff. The book is full of many different types of recipes from eating seasonally to teas & shampoos, etc...a great variety.

The book includes a lot of pictures, which make it fun to read & overall this is a great resource tool, especially if you're trying to save money & be more frugal.

I like how everything is laid out seasonally, so it's easy to find recipes that are best to make in Spring, for example, with Spring produce being available less expensive (or grow your own).

Thanks to Netgalley & the Publisher. I was able to preview this book in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own.

The perfect book for outdoor families who appreciate the seasons and want to celebrate with appropriate activities. The pictures are gorgeous and the activities look fun for all. I like that the difficulty level is given as well as if it is gluten free or vegan, etc.

What a delight! I absolutely ADORE books like this. I am literally always looking for ways to make holidays and even just ordinary days more memorable for my kiddos. This is an excellent way to do that. It covers holidays but also has fun things to do/make for days that just are. Days that the kids will look back on and feel all warm and fuzzy about.

A delightful book very lyrically written and a delight to read. The children are looking forward to trying some of the crafts. They have already taken to studying the book so they know what nature things to be looking out for. I suspect they will continue their interest all year.
