These kinds of samplers are so helpful and useful, and I always like getting them. Thanks so much to Minotaur Books for doing these.
As a sampler, I found these books interesting but not to my taste. I've gone down the path of Sci-Fi/fantasy with more action/adventure. I would still recommend them as Murder/Mystery
I absolutely love these samplers! It always gives me a good idea of what's to come. After going through this sampler, I requested several of these books and have since read them. I wish more publishers would do this!
There are some really intriguing books featured here! I'm most interested in Speak of the Devil and can't wait to read more.
Thank you NetGalley for the chance to preview these books!
Love these samplers and might be a few from here! Allison Brennan and Sandie Jones specifically. These are good to see what your next read should be if you’re stumped!
Enjoyed reading some of the stories. I love that readers are given the opportunity to read in advance of publication. It is always important to try not to hit a reading slump and these help!
The Minotaur Sampler is a great way to sample books before requesting them. I ended up reading two of these books - THE NEW MOTHER and WHAT THE NEIGHBORS SAW. I have another on my NG shelf waiting for me, and there are two more that I’d like to read when I have time! I shouldn’t read these when my NG shelf is already full, lol.
Thanks to the publishers and authors for this gifted copy provided through NG. All opinions are my own.
I always love this sampler … and these selections were as good as usual! Every book was interesting and they are all books that I will read!

Made me want to read more from all of these books. Cant really review cause its a sampler but a great selection.
I just love these samplers. They give me a list of books to keep an eye on and help me plan what I'm interested in reading. I find them particularly useful because they give you more than just the blurb you find on the back of the book.
I always look forward to the Minotaur samplers - I love the extended excerpts. It is a wonderful way to find new books to put on your radar. Thrillers are one of my favorite genres so this collection was my catnip. This book contains excerpts for books from some popular authors, and some from new authors. There is something here (or several somethings) for every reader who likes thrillers.
I love the opportunity to read these sampler bundles, especially when they are packaged around my favorite genre. Of these sample titles, I am most excited to read North of Nowhere, since I love a good wilderness survival story.
Thank you, NetGalley and Minotaur!
The Minotaur Sampler, Volume 8
A sampler is a good way to get to know about new authors and new books by authors you already know. Some of these sound interesting and especially the new book by Sandie Jones, since I have read her work before and she does a good twisty thriller.
A great way to sample books by authors I haven’t read and a great way to get a start on a book I will be reading. Allison Brennan is usually on my “to-read” list and North of Nowhere will definitely be added. I have the eARC for the featured book by Bruce Borgos and am looking forward to reading the whole story. The other snippets from the other authors were engaging. I may also discover what happens with the characters in What the Neighbors Saw.
Thank you to NetGalley, St. Martins Press, Minotaur Books, and the authors: Nora Murphy, Melissa Adelman, Rose Wilding, Bruce Borgos, Sandie Jones, and Allison Brennan for the eARC sampler.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Minotaur Publishing for the free e-ARC in exchange for an honest review!
I love it when I receive these samples of soon to be published books as it give me just enough of a taste to know what I want to read next! Here are the titles included in this Sample #8:
The New Mother - Nora Murphy
The suspense in the few chapters that I read has me definitely wanting to read this one! Who has not been a first time mom with all of the anxieties and sleep deprivation? Add onto that a new house and a creepy neighbor and this has the makings of a great new suspenseful mystery!
What the Neighbors Saw - Melissa Adelman
An inter-racial couple pregnant with their second child move into an exclusive, wealthy Virginia neighborhood. Some of the neighbors are less than welcoming when they assume that the wife is the help. Add in the wife snooping around the neighborhood after dark peeping in places she shouldn't have and we are off on a suspenseful mystery!
Speak of the Devil - Rose Wilding
This opens with a severed head of what appears to have been a horrible man who most wanted dead. There are multiple suspects, all of whom claim to have not done it. This is a different type of suspenseful mystery!
The Bitter Past - Bruce Borgos
There are multiple narrators and timelines in this story based in the Nevada desert where the atom bomb was developed and tested. I liked the gritty characters and the suspenseful mystery of a russian spy and the FBI secrets! Definitely will read!
The Trade Off - Sandie Jones
A young, new journalist gets a job at a tabloid newspaper. Lots of background on how the stories are developed and how the editors function. This is an interesting one a bit out of my usual genre and I will definitely be reading this one!
North of Nowhere - Allison Brennan
Super suspenseful, mystery with the mob and beautiful backdrop of Montana! I will be reading this one 1st out of all of the above!!
4 stars
and it is a huge gift to be able to have a little taste of all these upcoming books. Nowhere can you get such a grouping of previews and it is extremely well done.
I had an amazing opportunity to get a sneak peek at some incredible upcoming reads! I really enjoyed it and am excited to read the full books.
My favorite is The New Mother by Nora Murphy. Nat is so self-centered and never seems to reach out to those around her who love her--her husband, family, and friends--even though she's clearly overwhelmed. Could it be post-partum depression? I'm eager to find out what happens next.
Also, North of Nowhere by Allison Brennan where the book brings us along two children running away from their father with his former closest friend protecting them for five years--until they are eventually found anyway! They take horses and steal an airplane only for Tony (the best friend) to get shot while taking off; bullets hit an engine too and they crash land during a storm in Montana while their dad pursues them!
Thank you NetGalley and for providing this sampler!
Enjoyed these stories in particular the one by Allison Brennan
Great chance to become familiar with other writers
The Minotaur Sampler, Volume 8 by Nora Murphy, Melissa Adelman, Rose Wilding, Bruce Borgos, Sandie Jones, Allison Brennan
I love these samplers and am grateful to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press, Minotaur Books for offering them to advance readers. What better than a taste of upcoming releases to decide if a book is for you?
This go round, Volume 8, has six upcoming books. Out of those six authors, two had appeared in a previous sampler, Nora Murphy and Sandie Jones. Neither of these two prior books made it to my “to be read” list. Unfortunately, I’m going to say the same for this sample. Neither The New Mother nor The Trade Off peaked my interest. That is not to say, they won’t someone else’s, just not the book for me. The New Mother struck me as a bit “poor pity me” and The Trade Off with all the media manipulation was too close to reality at this point in time. Again, just not for me.
Three of the remaining four are right up my alley. I’m especially interested in North of Nowhere by Allison Brennan, which I had already requested and been granted an ARC from NetGalley. I think I might have to move it up in my line-up right away. How could I go wrong with a man on the run with two children he’s trying to keep safe and a plane crash? I don’t think I could.
What the Neighbors Saw and The Bitter Past both resonated well with me. The fourth, Speak of the Devil, based on the short excerpt, sounds like a good read, but just not enough to tell for sure if it’s worth investing my time. There are lots of books out there!
Thanks again Net Galley and Minotaur Books for this bite of the new book pie!
These samplers are a great way to find out about new authors! I especially enjoyed the excerpts from Speak of the Devil and The Trade Off. Can't wait to check out these books once they're published!
