A life of lies and manipulation….
A husband missing, secrets and lies uncovered, but how much of it is known, manufactured?
In this new book by Dea, she delivers a mystery that will have you wondering where the next revelation is going to come from, no one is as they seem, questioning every character, for every little thing I thought was a little off about a character I was trying to think of scenarios in my head of what was really going on, who was responsible for each death, each incident that was happening.
A tale of a woman scorned, trained to read people but unable to read the people she is closest too, a sense of feeling the last 10 years of a life was a lie, and what would she do when overwhelmed by a crippling sense of not being enough for the one you love? A story full of manipulation and lies and what you would do to be with the one you love, this book will have you turning the pages to the very end hoping to find out what really happened, but not everything will be tied up in a nice neat bow, be prepared that this book will leave you with questions unanswered.
This book didn’t deliver for me as all the other books by Dea. I won’t give any spoilers but I was left to wonder the extent of secrets that Emma the assistant must know, Cameron threw up a very red flag for me with a statement he makes, and for how well Adele seems to be able to read him, she missed the signs.
This book was such an enjoyable read and a great twist right at the very end of the book. Great cliffhanger
This was so confusing. I had no idea what was going on through most of this story. Even the ending didn't !make sense.
The Marriage Counselor is one of those books that grabs you from the first chapter. About half way through I thought that I’d figured it out and just continued to enjoy the read. Wrong!! The story continued to snake and the last couple of twists were from left field- didn’t see that coming!!
Thank You to NetGalley and Bookouture, and Dea Poirier for the opportunity to enjoy this ARC.
Unfortunately this is one of the worst books I've read in a long time. The writing is juvenile and unbelievable. The reactions of the characters are ridiculous. No research has gone into how the police work and operate. Every seems to die, and just going back to the writing it's terrible.
A brilliant book one I couldn’t put down, so much was in this book and I’m looking forward to reading more about the author in the future
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review. The marriage counselor finds out her husband is missing, and there are so many things she doesn't know about him. She is shocked with everything she finds out and is she in danger also? This book went a little slow for me, but overall entertaining.
There is nothing like living an illusion. You think your life is going great, that you're happily married, but one day your husband disappears, and when you call his work, no one knew about your existence.
This scenario sets up the storyline for THE MARRIAGE COUNSELOR, a twisty, fast-paced thriller that was full of surprises. When Adele finds out that not only is her husband missing but that he's also been living a secret double life for years, she's stunned. How could she, a trained professional, miss all of the signs? There are secret social media accounts, pictures with other women, and worst of all, a box of baby clothes for an impending new arrival.
Hurt, disgraced, and furious, Adele sets out to find her husband and unravel the secrets he's been keeping, all the while making sure her own secrets are safe.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for this early read. THE MARRIAGE COUNSELOR will publish April 24, 2023.
Grippingly unpredictable. Be prepared to put your life on hold! Taut and tense from the first page to the closing paragraphs……loved it! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Wow! This was a fantastic psychological thriller which had me gripped start to finish. What an excellent ending which totally shocked me had to go back and read it again fantastic! This thriller has so many twists and turns. I will definitely recommend reading it definitely worth it.
Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this book.
Thank you Netgalley and Bookouture for the copy of The Marriage Counselor by Dea Poirier. If you’re looking for an engaging, believable book, this might not be the book you were looking for. I really had trouble keeping track of the actual story so not only did I not know where the book was going, I sometimes didn't know where the story even was. If you love lots of surprises, this is the book for you. It just wasn’t a great fit for me.
This was a pleasure to read. There was no chance I was guessing the twists and I think this is the kind of book everyone needs after reading too many formulaic books.
The Marriage Counselor by Dea Poirier was quite a psychological thriller, and, oh, yikes, these characters go from one fire into another! Adele's husband is missing, and now she questions everything she knows about him.
The story was good, and the characters were okay, but the one thing that I found annoying was for Adele to worry about her career if she had to get a divorce. Lots of counselors are divorced or in a bad relationship. It didn't feel plausible, and it was irritating for her to keep worrying about herself and how it looked and reminding the reader.
Overall, an okay read for me. I will check out more books by this author. I enjoyed her writing style. I give this book a 3.75 out of 5 stars (rounded to 4).

This is a quick read as a psychological thriller, focused on relationships and obsession. Recommended for mystery/suspense lovers. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC.
Wow! My first Dea Poirier novel but definitely won’t be my last! I totally enjoyed this psychological thriller. The characters were captivating and kept me super invested in the story. So many secrets, lies and huge betrayals. Hooked from the very beginning.
Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book
Thank you Bookouture and NetGalley for an early copy of The Marriage Counselor. I can honestly say this book was the most confusing book I’ve read. I still don’t know who killed who and why. I don’t even know the point of the plot. Very disappointing.
Ok, before I head into the review I would just like to say two things…
Firstly, a big thank you to Netgalley and Bookouture for my copy of this ebook in exchange for my honest review.
Secondly, the quote in this book ‘for everyone who has lost themselves. One day, you will find you again. – THIS is the best quote I have read in a book, and resonates with me sooo much right now!!
Now, onto the good stuff…
This book was compelling from the start, I instantly felt like I connected with the main character Adele. She came from a great family, and had built herself a great life… but when she started to find out snippets of what her husband had been getting up to I felt sorry for her…
She felt like the trusted friend, I guess.
But the deeper I got into the story, I slowly started loosing trust in Adele, there were certain things she was scared of and it didn’t quite make sense to me.
BUT… no matter how much I thought I knew. By the time the pace increased and I was dying to get to the truth – with any psychological thriller worth our time – the twists started twirling my head, and even then… the twists just kept coming right until the very end!!!
I honestly, couldn’t get enough of this book… I was actually a little fuming when life got in the way and I had to adult. Keep your eyes open for this one!!
There are twists and turns galore in this unique mystery novel. The plot is well written and is well paced, some elements aren’t entirely believable but overall it’s good story that will
Keep you gripped.
Wow! What a shocking ending!! I didn't see that at all! This book had a bit of everything! It had suspense, intrigue, action, murder, and so many crazy twists and turns! The storyline was very interesting and had me glued to my Kindle! I will definitely recommend reading this book as it was well worth reading! Don't miss out on this one! Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me!
Adele takes us on a journey of a life time when her life is thrown into turmoil as her husband goes missing, this is such a exciting thriller that makes the story not want to end, this is such a good book and a real page turner
