Malcolm is having an affair, and his wife has found out. but on the day his wife goes missing his lover is murdered. What is really going on?
This was a fast-paced thriller that kept me guessing and intrigued until the very end.
This novel is told over twenty days and swaps from the past to the present giving us a rounded narrative. I am not sure if I liked the characters and I was never sure who to trust but this left me with many questioning what would happen next and kept me on my toes throughout.
Wow. Gripping. Thrilling. Shocking. This one is SO good. Kept me guessing right up until the end. Talk about a #thriller….clever is Ferrell.
Thank you, Matthew Farrell, Bookouture, & Netgalley for my copy! All opinions are my own.
What a rollercoaster of a story!
Out of the blue, Tracy tells her husband, Malcolm that she wants a divorce and then attends her final counselling session before heading off with her young Son to start a new life. On her way home, Tracy realises she is being followed and is abducted. On the same day, another woman is found dead.
One woman missing, one woman dead and a whole load of twists coming your way.
Just as you think you know what’s going on, another unexpected twist throws everything out and as for the ending - WOW!
5 ⭐️ Thanks to Netgalley, the author and the publisher for an ARC in return for an honest review.
The Woman at Number 6 is a twisty, turny story that kept me gripped all the way through to the fantastic ending which I did not see coming.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for my ARC.
Tracy and Malcom have been married for 8 years with a 7 year old son, Finn. Life was good until Tracy discovered Malcolm cheating with a woman at work. Malcom knows that cheating is a deal breaker between them because of Kate’s past, but that hasn’t stopped him. Tracy started seeing a therapist after she recovered from cancer and the therapist is completely behind Kate leaving Malcolm.
One morning as Kate is leaving the house she tells Malcom she wants a divorce and leaves. Malcolm is blind-sided, could she know about his affair? At therapy Dr. Davi is proud of Kate but tells her she needs to go back home and let Malcolm talk it out with her so he will have closure. But then becomes angry when Kate tells him this is their last therapy session as she is taking Finn and leaving town. On the way to their home, Kate sees a car with one headlight following her. She thinks she loses them until her car is pushed into the lake and things go black. Did Malcolm decide to kill her so she couldn’t take Finn from him or has her past caught up with her?
The Woman at Number 6 is a great mystery/thriller. It starts out slow and is a bit hard to follow at first. Many twists and turns that keep you guessing until the end.
Tracy seemed to have it all, a loving husband and a beautiful son. But for reasons she doesn't share and that no one understands, she decides to leave her husband. That same day she is attacked. Her life changes dramatically from this moment.
This is a story with a lot of twists and turns, most of which I didn't see coming. I didn't know who to trust or who was telling the truth. I enjoyed this story very much. For me it was a 3.5 read, but because the writing was good and it kept me guessing, I'm rounding up to 4.
Thank you to NetGalley, Matthew Farrell and Bookoutre for allowing me to read this ARC.
Matthew Farrell returns following The Perfect Mother with his latest, THE WOMAN AT NUMBER SIX, a multi-layered twisty domestic suspense love triangle that expands beyond the three for a dangerous game of obsession and revenge.
Tracy and Malcolm have been married eight years with a four-year-old son, Finn. Tracy has not had much luck with men - Jake and Frank (both dead). A traumatic expereince. She is a survivor.
The only thing she demands in a marriage is fidelity and faithfulness. Unfortunately, Malcolm has failed. He owns a construction company and is having an affair with his younger beautiful real estate attorney.
Tracy sees Dr. Devi, a therapist, due to her past. She has decided she is leaving Malcolm and taking Finn and starting over. Her therapist says she needs to tell her husband face to face.
On her way home from the therapist, she encounters someone behind her running her off the road, and her car is pushed into the Hudson River. She manages to get out and runs. A stranger named Sam says he is helping but kidnaps her. She is not able to see; everything is black.
While someone was following her, she called Malcolm. Now he wonders what happened to her. Is she dead or alive? If she was taken, who has her? Did he arrange this if he thought she was leaving?
Then the day Tracy goes missing his lover, Kat is found murdered. The plot thickens with the two cases and two detectives and one with an interest that has retired.
Also, you have Missy, the nasty sister. What is she up to? Trust no one.
Between the therapist, Dr. Devi, his son, the other little boy, Malcolm, Tracy, Missy, and the detectives, there are many characters, suspects, red herrings, and twists and turns. How do the two cases connect?
Told over twenty days from past to present, there are unreliable narrators and NO likable characters. You do not care about any of them or what happens to them. Not a lot of depth.
Farrell is a skilled writer, and I realize this is not up to him, but what bothered me the most is the book title, The Woman at Number 6. There is NO mention of the number 6 anywhere in the book. If so, maybe I missed it, and someone let me know because it bugs me. I even waited until pub day and grabbed a copy from Kindle Unlimited, thinking it would be there, and nope— no mention. In my reviews, I always discuss how the title fits the book. This one does NOT have anything related to the title.
I was a publisher for many years, so I know they must do title changes, but why choose a title that has no reference to the book? So who was the woman at number 6? Was it Kat? If so, no one mentioned #6. Was this supposed to be an apartment, table, address, street, or what?
Another beef when there is a change of POV, I like for the chapters to be titled or labeled as such, so you do not spend time reading a paragraph trying to figure out who is speaking.
I did like the twist at the end: karma, baby. If the book had ONE character to root for, I might have liked it better, and some added dark, sarcastic humor.

Gripping, shocking and hard to put down, The Woman at Number 6 kept me on the edge of my seat. turning the pages and wanting more!
Tracy and Malcolm appear to have it all - a happy marriage and an adorable son. But Malcolm is left shocked when Tracy informs him at breakfast that she wants a divorce. Tracy has a plan and is ready to set it in motion, but later that day she notices that a car is following her. Anxious she pulls off and once she feels safe, she lets her guard down until the car that had been following her keeps slamming into her car, pushing it toward the river.
Did Malcolm find out her plans? Is he seeking revenge? Have Tracy's secrets caught up with her?
Talk about an adrenaline rush! This book kept me on my toes and then some! I had no idea where this book was going, and I enjoyed this twist filled shocking ride! Matthew Farrell pulled the wool over my eyes. I thought I knew what was going on at one point only to be shocked and left sitting with my mouth hanging open. This is how you do it!
Gripping, thrilling, twist filled and hard to put down!
Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley who provided me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All the thoughts and opinions are my own.
The Woman at Number 6 by Matthew Farrell.
A loyal wife. A handsome husband. Which one of them will kill to keep their secret?
A slow starter but wow. Twisty like a rollercoaster. Woah didn't see that coming. Twist after twist after twist. I kept looking at the wrong person. I certainly didn't like the end. 4*.
Oh my goodness I have just finished reading this unputdownable psychological/ crime thriller and feel I need to go and lie down in a quiet room to process what I’ve just read. The Woman at Number 6 will have your head in an absolute spin, as it did mine. There was more twists and turns in this book than on a rollercoaster ride. You really won’t know who to trust as you feverishly turn the pages on this gripping read. Everything about this book was top class and that ending…. Just superb. I would honestly give this book more than. 5⭐️ if I could.
Tracy has gone missing. In fact, she was in a terrible car accident that has left her broken and battered. But, she is not alone. Someone is caring for her now and has promised to always care for her. However, Tracy’s husband and son are missing her.
There is more going on. Tracy suspected her husband of having an affair. A woman named Kat has been murdered. What is the connection? With rapid changing twists and turns, and a few cleverly placed rabbit trails, this story was incredibly tense.
I loved how the story began. Tracy calmly tells her husband Malcolm that she wants a divorce. She then leaves home and the real drama begins. She may have wanted to leave her husband, but what of their young son Finn? Where has Tracy gone and what of the car accident? And what of the murder of the woman named Kat? The police keep circling around Malcolm as they are trying to determine what role he plays in all of this.
I was kept guessing throughout and just as I thought I knew who was responsible, I was thrown for a loop yet again. Great job, Matthew Farrell. Keep these thrilling books coming.
Many thanks Bookouture to and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.
A thriller that will keep you guessing. There’s a lot happening with this book including a murder and a missing persons case. Multiple points of view allowed for even more twists and opened more possibilities as to who was guilty. I found the story intriguing and wanted to figure it out myself however the whodunit came pretty quickly in a jumble at the end. I’ve read a few of Farrell’s books and have enjoyed them all but this wouldn’t be a favorite. When I requested the book from NetGalley it was called The Marriage Breakup but change to the current title before release. I’m unsure how the title fits, the previous name made sense not the new one.
The threads in this murder mystery’s plot are twisted into knots almost impossible to unravel. The closest people to you, those who’ve promised to love and protect you, are not who you believe they are. Your beloved sister, your husband, even the therapist you’ve bared your deepest secrets to, none can be trusted. Who has evil beneath the facade of love? Who will betray you?
The circumstances in Tracy’s life are creepy and diabolical. She hasn’t had the best of luck with men or their professed love. Her sister, Missy, is her best friend and a wonderful aunt to her son, Finn. The plan to get a divorce and move goes awry when she vanishes. The detectives don’t have much to go on and don’t know if she’s just missing or been killed.
This is an author I’ve read before with suspense that kept me riveted to a plot full of surprises. There was just one tiny tidbit of a clue I grasped early on. The rest kept changing and my theories fizzled. No one is trustworthy, secrets and lies everywhere. What you think you know will be lacking facts. A must-read!
An advance reader copy of “The Marriage Break-Up” by Matthew Farrell, Bookouture was provided to me by NetGalley. These are all my own honest personal thoughts and opinions given voluntarily without compensation.
NOTE: Title changed after publication to “The Woman at Number 6”
The ending of The Woman at Number 6 still has my mind blown!!! Wow, Matthew Farrell has written one of the best mysteries I've read in 2023!! This book has it all and I read it in one day! When people say I couldn't put this book down, with this book it's for real! I took my kindle with me everywhere so that I could continue reading this book whenever possible!
Tracy has been married to Malcolm for eight years and they have a 7 year old son, Finn. Life always seemed good until Tracy found out that Malcolm was cheating on her. Malcolm was having an affair with Kat, an attorney that he used for his construction business. She was young, blonde, and beautiful. Tracy found out by following Malcolm and seeing them together. Tracy had another bad relationship that ended badly because he cheated. Malcolm knew this was the one thing she wouldn't tolerate and yet he'd cheated anyways.
Tracy was meeting with her therapist and told him that she had told Malcolm that she wanted a divorce this morning. She then left for work without any explanation. Malcolm has been blowing up her phone with text messages and voicemails ever since. Tracy has not answered any. Dr. Devi tells Tracy that she owes Malcolm an explanation before she leaves town with Finn. Tracy plans on heading home to have a talk with Malcolm when she finishes with therapy. Dr. Devi is pleased that she's finally doing it, but is shocked to learn that this will be her last therapy session. Tracy plans on taking Finn and moving up north so there won't be anyway for her to continue her sessions with Dr. Devi. He explains that she's made great progress, but still needs to keep working. Tracy says that she'll look for someone once she gets settled or she can have a zoom session with Dr. Devi.
As Tracy gets to her car and starts towards home, she's glad that Finn is with her sister tonight and won't be home to hear the conversation that she's going to have with Malcolm. As she's making her way through traffic, Tracy notices a car with only one headlight a couple cars behind her. As she's making her way out of the city into the suburbs, she sees that the car is still behind her and seems to be following her!! Tracy calls Malcolm and accuses him of having her followed. He says he has no idea what she's talking about, but he says for her to take the next exit and go to the police station that is just ahead. She cuts across 2 lanes to take the exit and loses the car with one headlight. She waits on the curb by the police station, but the car never comes. She feels silly like maybe she imagined the whole thing.
Since Tracy is in her old neighborhood, she decides to drive down by the water where she and Malcolm got married. As she's in the parking lot by the river, she's reminiscing when the car with one headlight shows up. She's very exposed here as it's a remote lot with only one way in and one way out. As she thinks about gunning the gas to get out the other car comes charging at her. The other car hits her car from behind and starts pushing her towards the river! She tries braking, but it doesn't work. She's getting closer and closer to the water. She opens her car door hoping that she can get out as the front of the car plunges into the river. Tracy gets out in the water and makes her way to the bushes on the side of the river. She's trying to hide, but she is grabbed and hit across the head. Everything goes black.
The same night that Tracy is taken, Kat is murdered in her apartment. Malcolm and Kat had gone out to eat and have drinks earlier that day before going back to her place to make love. When Detective Taft finds Kat's body he is upset. There's nothing worse than finding someone so young and vibrant dead, especially on your last case before retirement! Who could've done this? Did Malcolm kill Kat to cover his indiscretions? Did one of her clients kill her? Are Kat's murder and Tracy's disappearance connected? Malcolm keeps calling Tracy but it goes right to voicemail. She should've been home hours ago! Malcolm calls Missy, Tracy's sister, to see if she went there to see Finn before coming home. Missy hasn't seen Tracy and now she's worried something has happened to her.
Missy decides to pack and drive Finn back home. She wants to wait with Malcolm to make sure her sister is okay. They call the police and tell them that Tracy thought she was being followed and hasn't made it home. The police locate a 911 call from Tracy's cellphone that she made as the car was pushing her into the river. There was no information about her location, so it's not helpful and the call was very brief. Detective Kelly is assigned her first case to be in charge of with Tracy's missing persons case. Did Malcolm have Tracy killed because she was going to divorce him? What will Malcolm tell Finn about his mom? You will have more and more questions as you read The Woman at Number 6 and just when you think you've got it figured out, you don't! Trust me, you don't! This book gives the reader such an awesome experience!
I rate The Woman at Number 6 five stars with my very highest recommendation. If you like a good mystery then this book is a gift for you! Enjoy trying to solve the mysteries and all of the twists along the way! I'd like to thank NetGalley and Bookouture for an advanced copy of The Woman at Number 6 in exchange for a fair review. #TheWomanatNumber6
The book has many twists and turns. It like pulling off a mask to uncover the next mask and the next. The book definitely delivers with twists, shockers, and surprises. I do feel it was a tad bit longer than it needed to be, but I loved the ending!
Many thanks to NetGalley, Bookouture and the author for the opportunity to read this arc for an honest review..
This was the first book I have ever read by this author I ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT!!!! I loved the characters and the twists and turns were REALLY JUICY! what I didn’t love was the CHAPTER NUMBERS I LOVE SHORT BOOKS! This one felt kind of slow at the beginning but I was BAM sucked in towards the middle. The end was shocking. The characters were a delight I would love a sequel to this book. I will definitely be reading more from this author what a great read!
I found this one a little hard to follow. There were a lot of characters and the twists seem to be a little far fetched.
Thank you NetGalley for this advanced reading copy in exchange for my honest review.
BRILLIANT & gripping psychological thriller with lots of suspense throughout. First book I have read of this author but will definitely not be my last. RECOMMEND highly for a very suspenseful read. Thanks to #NetGalley, #Bookouture for #The Woman at Number 6 in return for my honest review.

Prepare to meet with twist after twist and enjoy the ride!
Synopsis
Tracy was missing the day she asked for a divorce from her husband. Now that her husband became the prime suspect, what could be the reason for her request? And what was their relation with a murdered woman across town?
What I like about it
The rollercoaster ride, oh my! It was quite unpredictable and unputdownable for me (I blame my holiday for keeping me back on continuing the book); and, like a mystery genre lover, I was guessing left and right but still stumped when presented with yet another new evidence.
The ending chilled me, no lie.
What I don't like about it
Why the title change? I think the previous The Marriage Break-Up fits the story well than the new one, but oh well.
Also, while I like the turns, I didn't really like the many povs inside. I get that it served as the red herring (kinda), but sticking to Malcolm and Tracy would be best for me.
Final thought
Some might not appreciate the many twists, but I, for one, like it. If you're easily bored and want to read something that grind your mind, this would be it!
I got an advanced copy of this book thanks to NetGalley and the publishers in exchange for an honest review so thank you.
If you like Frieda Mcfadden books then I recommend this book. Truly addictive book that has you wanting more more more. Told from various characters view points this is a gripping whodunit mystery with more than one crime. I have to say it was an easy read and I would have given the book 5 🌟 until it got to about 80% of the way. There are so many twists and turns with this one it's hard to keep up but I felt a lot of it to be childish in its execution (I really do hate confessions don't you? So cliché) I was then going to downgrade ot to a 3 🌟 but that last twist redeemed itself so a decent 4 🌟 it is. I do recommend this book if you like fast paced thrillers with killer twists.
