The Marriage Break-up
By: Matthew Farrell
⭐️⭐️⭐️💫
Holy moly!!! The twists and turns! Kept me guessing! I thought I would have one thing figured out but nope..
If you like suspense this is a good one!!
I received an advanced copy of this book from Bookouture via NetGalley.
Tracy and Malcolm Cowan have everything they ever wanted. Their world revolves around their beautiful little boy, Finn, with his pale blue eyes so like his father’s, and his mother’s blonde hair. Tracy never has to think about the darkness in her past. The things she’s never told her husband. But then Tracy disappears. The next day Malcolm is marched down the porch steps into the back of a waiting police cruiser.
Is there really a likable character in this book? The timing and coincidences are crazy and it's just one thing after another with this book. It is almost as if Farrell just tried to throw the kitchen sink into a story without any editing. This was a fast read but a confusing one at that.
This had twists and turns coming from everywhere with reveals you really don't see coming. I was shocked at this and it wasn't what I expected going into it, although you can say some parts are unrealistic, it is a story and I felt the suspense and shocks added to the story and made this unique to other thrillers out there. I also enjoyed that when you thought it ended there was more so you were kept on the edge of your seat, especially with the multiple POV's. Overall this was a fun, unique thriller and a quick read, I would recommend.
Thanks so much Bookouture and NetGalley for an advance read in exchange for this review.
Tracy tells her husband she wants a divorce. Then she disappears after a 911 call. Is this a classic husband did it tale?
Told through multiple POVs, this isn't your typical wife wants to leave story. There are some twists, and some of the twists seem almost too far fetched. I didn't really like this one, and it was hard for me to finish. I read other reviews that said the twists were unpredictable, and that kept me going. It did not help that I found a lot of the characters unlikable.
Early on (barely into the first chapter), I wanted this to be DNF. There was a line that described love as schizophrenic. I find it extremely stigmatizing when we use mental health diagnoses as adjectives to describe things. In fact, the definition of schizophrenic straight from the dictionary option on Kindle is someone who has schizophrenia.
On the date she announced she wanted divorce Tracy attends her last therapy session with Dr. Dean and on her way home to let Malcolm get the disappointment of the failed marriage office chess she realizes someone is following her at first she thinks it is one of Malcolm‘s goons from the construction site but he quickly disemboweled her of that notion it’s so she has no clue who is behind her in the sedan with the one headlight after a couple of quick maneuvers she loses the car and decides the park by the lonely beach unfortunately she wasn’t as good at losing her stalker she thought because he is quickly behind her ramming her car into the water while Malcolm is morning he’s missing and or dead wife Tracy‘s sister Missy quickly comes over to take care of little fin and Malcolm it gets even worse for Malcolm when his mistress and lawyer is found dead at her home with his fingerprints all around the house he claims he is innocent and if he is this mean someone else has a devious plan in the works to get rid of him and Tracy, but who? It is always a slippery slope when there is more than one crazy person in the book but The author seems to have made it work this is a great book and one I highly recommend more than once there was surprises that I did not see coming in although there were a couple I did me predicting those didn’t prepare me for the ending. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and highly recommend that I received it from NetGalley and a publisher but I am leaving this review voluntarily please forgive any mistakes as I am blind and dictate my review.
This is one twisty ride of a read! Just when you think you have it figured out, it turns on itself and goes in a completely different direction. Very interesting in it's plotting and storytelling.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for this ARC!.
Great thriller with lots of twists and turns that will leave you guessing until the very end.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Great thriller with lots of twists and turns, and kept me guessing throughout the book., I did have to go back and reread some of the beginning as it had so many surprises and I needed to refresh my memory on details, and a lot to remember. At times I felt I needed a notebook next to me to keep notes about the story.
. It wasOverall it was a great book.
Thank you to #NetGalley, #Bookouture and Matthew Farrell for the opportunity to read an advance copy of THE MARRIAGE BREAKUP, to be published 26 April 2023. WOW. What a suspenseful thriller with twists and turns galore! The heroine of the novel was quite a personality with many facets. She found herself in a variety of tense situations throughout this unusual thriller. 5/5 Stars. #NetGalley. #Bookouture. #Matthew Farrell. #TheMarriageBreakup
Lots of twists
This had a lot of twists - maybe too many. I finished it yesterday and already forgot how exactly everything wound up. You have a woman who tells her cheating husband that she wants a divorce. She visits her psychologist to tell him what she has done and that she will be moving no longer be coming to him. On the way home, she is attacked and kidnapped. Then the strangled body of the woman her husband has been cheating on her with is found.
The plot was good, if a little overly complicated. But the writing just didn't seem believable to me. The characters spoke in manners that didn't flow correctly.
I found it interesting, but a little weak. 3 1/2 stars.
If you like to read a book where you have to figure out what is happening in the storyline and if you like a book where each time you think you have it all figured out you are proven wrong don't miss this one.
If you want to be kept guessing, if you want to be wrong everytime, if you want to be gripped, this is the book you want. I was thrilled and I enjoyed every page. It will stay with you!
Thank you Bookouture and NetGalley for a digital review copy of The Marriage Break-Up. This book was insane. There were more twists and turns than a dance. If I thought I had it figured out, well I had it figured out 14 times and wrong every time. Definatianty keep me blowing thru this one and the ending was INSANE!!
This is definitely one of those books with so many twists and turns that you will be kept guessing until the very end. While I’m okay with a few twists and turns, this one seemed to overdo it and I felt like there was too much going on. Despite that this was still an enjoyable read – just over the top. I did enjoy the characters and how they were portrayed in the book. Some of the twists left me with my mouth hanging open in disbelief, others made me scratch my head in shock. I will say that it was unpredictable. I really enjoyed the writing and got lost in the pages.
If you are looking for an unpredictable and fun thriller, then grab yourself a copy of this one on April 26th.

Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC. While I have enjoyed this author in the past, this was not my favorite. Still though was fairly solid.
The Marriage Break-Up by Matthew Farrell was a gripping read.
Matthew Farrell has yet again created such an exciting, page-turning story.
Each chapter was written with an adrenaline-fueled, pulse-pounding moment that kept me hooked to each passing page.
This is a great read and the story builds up the suspense and intrigue in such a way that it keeps the reader engaged and guessing.
An unpredictable psychological thriller with a killer twist.

That was a thriller if I’ve ever read one. Think you’ve got it all figured out? Guess again. This book was literally SO good. May be one of my top favorites so far this year.
One woman missing, one woman dead. One man to blame? Keep guessing.
I am speechless.
This book comes out on April 26th, and if you don’t order it I’m sorry that you’re missing out.
Now, I’m going to go order more books by Farrell.
Tracy walks into the kitchen, and drops the bomb that will implode their marriage"I want a divorce"
Tracy and Malcolm Cowan have everything they ever wanted and their world revolves around their beautiful son Finn.Tracy never has to think about the darkness in her past things she's never told her husband.
One cold morning, their quite suburban street awakes to shouting floating on the breeze over the picket fence.Tracy storms out slamming the door behind her,BUT then she disappears. The next day Malcom is taken from the home and placed in a police crusier.
You'll think Malcom has hurt his lovely wife, that his torn the family apart.BUT you don't know about the young womans body found the same day.
It took awhile to get into this book but it was worth the wait it turned into a rollercoaster of a read,I thought I'd worked it all out but then I had to rethink all I believed as another twist hit and then another bigger than the last. The plot was well written and intriguing,no-one was who you thought they were and the ending was staggering.
Highly recommended.
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the ARC.
