3.5/5 (unfortunately it does not let you select half stars).

I picked this up expecting a romance, and although I think the book tees up a romantic plot line for the sequel, it just wasn’t a component in this story. That being said, I was okay with reading about Holly’s trials at the/with owning the candy shop. Holly’s character arc was exactly how I would want it to be. I love how practical Holly is and I think Lynn did a great job characterizing Jamie, Ben, Caroline, and Giles—it was very easy to envision them. I found it very easy to root for Holly and the plot moved swiftly enough to keep me engaged. I think this book would make an excellent beach read. Also the village setting was too cute.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for the eARC!

This was a lovely, light read about Holly’s new venture, and the romance element was not a dominating factor. This meant that I really enjoyed the sweet shop theme and I took great pleasure in picturing this old fashioned shop and all the colourful, sugary happiness inside.

I loved this book better than the first once. I felt like the writing flowed a little bit more and the characters had a little more development. Hannah Lynn is an incredible writer.

So, other than setting a book in a bookshop, library or animal sanctuary I think a sweatshop a fourth setting that will immediately make me want to dive in and read it. I mean who as a child didn’t want to run their own, the nostalgia reading this was just amazing and oh god I miss sweets in jars! This was a gorgeous romantic read, a delight to fall into its pages and thoroughly enjoyable. I am definitely here for the next book. Sweet and comforting

What a cute story of second chances!

I loved Holly Berry's optimistic character despite her life pretty much falling apart. Her spontaneous purchase of the sweet shop where she worked at as a teen is a sweet yet crazy thing, but exactly what she needed. Sometimes you have to just do what makes you happy instead of what you think you need to do.

I thought the Giles situation was rather predictable from the beginning or maybe that was just me, but I kind of guessed what would happen from the moment they met on the street. That didn't make it any less interesting to watch unfold though. I really liked all the supporting characters and can't wait to see what happens with Ben in the second book!

The Cotswolds setting sounded picturesque. I ended up craving sweet treats throughout the book thanks to the delicious descriptions of all the yummy candies, chocolates and treats Holly sold at Just Once More! I now must get my hands on whatever chocolate mice are!

I loved this story very much. It came for me after a more poignant read and I enjoyed it a lot. It is set in a beautiful part of Britain, the Cotswolds. Holly moves back here, to her childhood town. She is heartbroken, but soon she finds a new purpose to her life when she decides to buy the sweetshop she used to work at as a schoolgirl. She also finds a strong circle of friends who help her start a new chapter in her life. I loved these characters in the book. She might even find love again. As a matter of fact, there seem to be two possible love interests for her.
The plot has some twists and turns and the story ends on a cliffhanger. I would really like to know what happens next.
I spent some enjoyable hours with this novel and I can recommend it to everyone.

“Starting over never tasted so good.”

Holly Berry has always been a planner. She had a well-paying job in the city and almost had enough money saved for a deposit on a home so she and her longtime boyfriend could take their relationship to the next level. But all of her plans for the future fell apart when she caught her boyfriend in bed with another woman.

Devastated and uncertain what her future now looks like, she heads “home” to a peaceful village where she grew up. As a teenager she worked at a sweet shop called Just One More and grew to be extremely close to the shop’s owners. After arriving in the village Holly finds herself in front of that very shop and full of nostalgia. Sadly one of the shop’s owners has passed on and her partner has lost her passion for running the shop. Holly decides to quit her job in the city and maybe taking over Just One More is the new beginning she has been needing and hoping for.

This one was cute. It was the perfect light palate cleansing book I needed after an emotional heavy historical fiction. I did find myself rolling my eyes at Holly’s ignorance or maybe naïveté regarding the sabotage attempts at the shop. But, some people are just super trusting and perhaps the world would be a nicer place with more people like Holly in it.

Holly finds a strange woman in her bed with her boyfriend after a long day of work. The only solution to this is to pack her bags and go back to the village where she grew up.

Once there, she meets the woman who had been her employer when she was a teen. The woman will now be selling her sweet shop, and without thinking it through, Holly offers to buy the shop. However, this turns out to be more work than she anticipated. With old and new friends (or enemies?) she starts on a journey of discovery. Will she be able to start a new life, or will it not work out in her favour?

I enjoyed reading this book. The style of writing is easy-going and it doesn't take too much effort to get into the story. The characters were well-described, and they mattered to the story. I could have done with a little less description of all the candy, but all in all, this was a great book!

This book is what I like to refer to as "British summer literature". The kind of book I would borrow from my friend while we would sit in her garden, drinking tea and keeping the dogs from eating the fish.
A cute read with a strong Jenny Colgan vibe although it did feel like only half of a book, so I can see why the second one is coming out the same day.

This is such a lovely easy and enjoyable read. I loved the sense of community in the book and the characters were well developed.
Holly is a lovely character and I enjoyed reading about her experiences with running a sweet shop. I had a feeling who was behind the problems that she was having. I wanted to read on to find out if I was right and how she proves it.
I was delighted to see that Hannah Lynn has written several other books and series. I think that I might have found myself a new favourite Author. I can't wait to read the next book in the series.
Thank you to Netgalley and Boldwood books for my ARC.

This is my first book by this author and am so pleased to have found her books.

This is the first book in the series and delves into the main character hollies life and how she has moved back to her home town in search of a fresh start. It has a really cosy and community feel.

This was a lovely uplifting and escapism read and had engaging characters and was set in a beautiful location and brought back memories of childhood sweets.

I am looking forward to reading the second instalment of this series love blooms at the second chances sweet shop to see how hollies fresh start continues to pan out.

A simple and sweet story of Holly who moves back to her hometown after finding her boyfriend in bed with another woman. She takes over the town's sweet shop where she spent many years working during her younger years. As business owners do, Holly discovers running her own business is a challenge and struggles to find her footing.

Overall a very easy read, and a great introduction to the rest of the series. There are very endearing moments throughout the book and reminds me of why it's so important to support local small businesses.

Thank you to NetGalley, Boldwood Books Publishing for an eARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.

The sweet shop of second chances is the story of Holly, who finds her boyfriend in bed with another woman so she flees to her hometown where she grew up. Here she ends up in front of the old sweet shop where she used to work as a teenager. So has good memories of that time and when the owner wants to quit te shop, she decides to buy it. It is a very nice story and I liked that you get a bit of a background story. You really see why Holly would want to buy the shop, and that it wasn’t just a impulsive decision. Hannah Lynn succeeded in describing the town and especially the sweets very well, you can just picture Holly in that old-fashioned shop.
It is a very lighthearted read and kind of predictable, but overall a nice read. I missed the romance part of the story, but after finishing the book you discover that is the topic of Book 2 in this series. A few comments: I found Holly to be a bit naive in regards to Giles, since he asked her out because ‘clearly she’s an interesting person’. Weird… But Holly asking him if he’s a serial killer because he asked her out was even weirder. And I would have liked to know more about Ben, Jamie and maybe even Caroline. But I can recommend this book; do try to read it without craving a lot of candy!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book and I am grateful for this opportunity. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

The main character, Holly, comes back to her hometown after a disaster with her boyfriend; she is essentially trying to re-discover herself. This was a simple and lighthearted read, what some may call a comfort read; there is romance and sweets! It was a kind of predictable book, but still fun. There were some typos that detracted from the story itself.

I received this from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

When I read what this book was about, I was so sure it would be a lot like other books where the main character has to start over after dumping a cheating boyfriend.
Holly knows where she wants to be, Cotswolds and she took me along with her to the life she wants to have. The characters and the story line flow off the pages and into my heart. I can almost reach out and touch things as the authors gives us this beautiful story.
I highly recommend this book. I can’t wait to read the next in this series.
Thank you NetGalley, Hannah Lynn and Boldwood Books for the copy of The Sweet Shop of Second Chances. This is my personal review.

A very sweet (hah) story about friendship and starting over. Looking forward to trying the next book in the series. It was nice to read about a community rallying around for someone instead of trying to squash the small shop owners.

I am always excited to read a story set in the Cotswolds, and this was such a fun read! I found Holly an easily relatable character that I cheered for throughout the book (& Ben!). Finding out that a sequel is coming was a wonderful surprise at the end! Thank you to Boldwood Books and NetGalley.
