A fun, easy to read story about Holly who is trying to start again in the sweet shop from her childhood with various hurdles along the way.
This is a lovely, easy to read and fun book to read. What's not to like about a sweet shop and a new beginning. A perfect fit!
Holly Berry is starting over and finds herself at a sweet shop she knew as a teenager which also needs a new lease of life. This is just a good fun, sweet, entertaining read with a bit of romance, some loveable characters and a sweet shop.
Easy reading at its best and I highly recommend this as a feel good book that will make you smile.
Thank you NetGally and Boldwood Books for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.
And now I'm off to read book two in this series. Looking forward to it.
Very seldom do I feel I can’t put a book down, or miss my favorite show to read, but this book did that! I loved it and wanted to see what would happen next!
Friends that are willing to help each other, makes me smile, so I kept doing that through the book.
Great book!
Where better to set a series than a sweet shop. This book definitely brings back memories of my childhood and sweets in jars! A light, romantic read. Easy to follow, enjoyable throughout and a great start to a series. I definitely want to read the rest of. The characters are people I would love to know better! Good read.
Thank you Netgalley
I am a fan of candy, chocolate and sweets. I am also a huge romance fan. These together made this a cute beachy read.
When Holly Berry finds her boyfriend of 6 yrs is a cheat, she loses it. She's been saving for years for the down payment on a house and now she has no boyfriend and no reason to keep saving. She gets in the car and drives...almost home. Back to the sweet shop she worked at as a teen. One owner has died and the other is ready to sell...what a better idea than for Holly to buy it? How hard can it be than she worked there in high school?
We read as Holly survives the ups and downs of buying and running her own shop and a hint at love in the future...her life is starting to finally come together.
I enjoyed the first book of this series! It was enjoyable to read about Holly Berry! I enjoyed the fact she loved loving back in the village! Looking forward to the second one.
Such a great and sweet story, It was so heartfelt but a light, fluffy, happy read for me! I will absolutely be recommending this book.
Holly has just found her boyfriend in their bed with a younger model so she leaves to go very reluctantly back to her parents house. On the way however she stops off at the village where she grew up and the sweetshop she worked in as a teenager in particular
Before she knows what she is doing she has made the owner and her old boss Maud an offer to buy the shop for herself rather than letting a local developer buy it
Will it be straightforward or will there be some foul play occuring ?
A lovely easy read
Hollys life is turned upside down in the first 10 pages, but with one door closing 5 windows open. Leaving her corporate job & cheating boyfriend behind she’s fronted with the opportunity to purchase a confectionery store in her home town, a place she once called home in her younger years and was her first ever real job.
I loved the character, her determination in wanting/needing this to succeed with the help of new and old friends.
There’s no real MMC or love interest and honestly the story didn’t really need it, it’s refreshing to read a story about a woman picking up her life and making it her own without a hero swooping in and saving the day….in saying that having friends always helps
Thanks netgalley and the publishers for the arc.
This is a super quick read and really enjoyable. It’s one that you can sit down and relax with. I did find the main character a tad annoying at times, but that did add to her character. 4/5
I love when an indie author gets picked up and published!! I was lucky enough to snag this (as well as the sequel) on NetGalley. The Sweet Shop of Second Chances is a great, fast read. We are going to London in May and this had me looking forward to our planned day of wondering through the villages of the Cotswolds. I wouldn’t be upset to stumble upon a sweets shop😊. I highly recommend this book! I will be snagging a copy once it is released!

Holly comes home to find her boyfriend in bed with another woman. What an opening scene!
Loved this cozy romance read about second changes in life. Holly was a relatable character for me. She goes back home post break up and is on her path to self-discovery. "She was actually having the first day of the rest of her life." I loved this about Holly. Lots of ups and downs with her newly acquired sweet shop but she meets some new friends and reunites with some old friends along her journey. But don't get me started on Giles.
I didn't realize when reading this, that this was the first book in a series and I definitely want to check out book 2.
Thank you NetGalley, Hannah Lynn and Boldwood Books for an eARC copy of The Sweet Shop of Second Chances for an honest review.
I enjoyed this book quite a lot but, I found the main character very lame at times. She didn’t seem to have a lot of character which spoiled things a little for me. I guessed the ending and as I’ve got the next one in this series I’ll give that a go and hope for better. My thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.
This book is as sweet as the shop it is set in. Having found an adorable chocolate shop on the water in a small Scottish town, I pictured the spot perfectly and ached to visit. I did find the story fairly predictable (and at times felt frustrated with Holly for what I thought were bad decisions or her being dense), but it was a salve for the soul. I was there for comfort and sweetness, not for thrills or unpredictability. It looks like this is a series (just coming later to the US than the UK), which I love because Holly, Ben, Jamie, and Caroline are all characters I would like to spend more time with.
THE BLURB:
Holly Berry has it all: a good career, a steady boyfriend, and enough savings that the two of them will soon be able to buy a nice little house. But when she finds out her boyfriend has been cheating on her, she decides to retreat to the Cotswolds and a place full of far sweeter memories.
Quite literally.
However, Holly discovers the quaint village sweet shop she worked in as a teenager is starting to crumble. Putting all her chocolate eggs in one basket, she says goodbye to the city, and sets her sights on a new project.
After all, how hard can running a sweet shop be?
MY REVIEW:
I loved that this was set in the Cotswolds, but be warned, you will be hungry a lot when you read this, the descriptions make you want to go out and eat all the sweet treats.
A sweet story about going home again as an adult, and the complications that brings with it.
Although there is a romance in this book, it is not the main focus, and I would categorise this as womens fiction with romantic elements rather than an actual romance.
A very light read, nothing serious or complicated about it. A quick read, taking less than an hour.

I really enjoyed this book, I did guess some of the “twists” but it didn’t take away from the story, easy holiday read
I really enjoyed the first story in this new series with all the ups and downs of Holly Berry's life both personal and business and I'm going to read the second one now
A nice easy read. I liked main character Holly and her new friends in the village too. I knew what Giles’ part to play in everything was from the start but none the less it was an enjoyable read and I’ve already started the next one!

What can I say? I picked this title because of the genre. It only had two genres listed: general fiction and romance. I read romance, so naturally I wanted to read it. It. Has. No. Romance. There is barely three sentences mentioned that are romance-related. It should definitely not be one of the only two genres listed for this book. It is really important to choose a correct genre so as to not disappoint potential readers.
I checked and it seems like the second book focuses on the romance, so I wished I had read that instead.
Okay let’s forget about the romance. Plot-wise, the story was lukewarm. Any conflict arising at the end of one chapter got resolved or almost resolved in the next one. Who is who in terms of good/bad characters was clear from the beginning. Most of the plot revolves around collecting money and making profits so it was kinda boring too. I think the book tried to be cute with the candy and all, but it had nothing going on besides that.
The heroine annoyed me to no end. She was judgemental and always overreacting to things, making her own situation worse. I didn’t notice much growth.
So why the two stars? Mostly for the friendships, they seemed nice and genuine at least. I feel like I wasn’t supposed to read this book, I’m not it’s target audience but since I signed up for an honest review here it is. I thought about not leaving a review but I had too much to say.
Other remarks:
1. I thought by this point everyone knows already that you’re not supposed to be feeding bread to ducks. It’s not good for them.
2. Berating cats for catching mice is like being upset at the sky for being blue. He was a very good cat and tried to earn his fare. I don’t even like cats and I felt sorry for poor creature.
3. Blaming your problems on the teenager who you’re not even paying is immature.
Review in progress and to come.
