An interesting story, well -written, with enough twists to keep your interest until the end. The plot was well developed until the satisfying ending.

This is book 20 in the DI Hillary Greene series. I have not read any of the previous books but I intend to remedy that soon. Hillary is working with the cold case squad and her team is made up of misfits and no where else to go. When Hillary is given a 30 year old murder case she and the team are struggling to find people still alive that remember the murder of Reverend Coltrane from Lower Barton, Oxford. This small town has a lot of secrets and the case isn't setting well with the residents.I like Hillary and her house boat home. This can easily be read as a stand alone.

Gripping
A cold case team, led by ex DI Hillary Greene, are looking into the murder of a parish priest 30 years ago and it’s bringing to light the secrets that can surround a village
I enjoyed this book and even though it’s the 20th in a series that I hadn’t read before I was able to pick up more information on the characters and especially Hillary’s personal life. I think I might have been a bit more invested in them in I had read more about them and I will admit that it has piqued my interest to keep reading. This book however, apart from the main police characters, is a standalone and follows the case of the murdered reverend which I did really enjoy
The nature of the story means that it is written from multiple points of view and I will admit that I struggled with some of it, there is a lot of “at the same time”s which whilst I understand is necessary, it did start to annoy me when it happened for a few chapters in a row, which I have no idea why it annoyed me, it’s just something that stuck in my head. I did however like that there were all the different points of view and it was fascinating to see how everything came together and gave a killer I wasn’t expecting
This book caught my attention from the very start and had me hooked and unable to put it down, the only thing I would have wished for was that the ending was a slowed down a little and more details were given to the reader about what was going on with some of the other characters but that’s just me being picky!
I would recommend this book to those who enjoy a murder mystery that whilst at the same as being a lighter read will catch your attention and pull you in

This book was sent to me electronically by Netgalley for review. Thanks to the publisher and the author. This talented author has written a story that is fiction but reads like nonfiction. It could be true. It might be true. The characters are realistic as they try to solve a decades old murder. The red herrings abound and make it quite difficult to discover the identity of the murderer. A real surprise…

A great cosy mystery. I haven't read the previous books in the series but this was fine as a stand alone. I would describe this as a light police procedural with great likeable characters.
An easy enjoyable read.

Faith Martin's mysteries are always entertaining and solid. This new Hilary Green was highly entertaining and kept me guessing.
Highly recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher for this arc, all opinions are mine

How have I not met DI Hillary Greene before?! This book is an excellent example of a British cozy x police procedural (I guess that's what it is, since the detective is not an amateur, but is a retired cop). The characters feel real and complex, and I care about Greene as much as I do the plot. Highly unusual for me!

The mystery plot is complex and steadily unraveling. Meanwhile, family relationships are mysterious but then finally come clear, too. I finished up reading the book with a sense of satisfaction and hope. And a vow to go back and start this series from the beginning.

#murderintheparish by faith martin is just fabulous! i haven't read DI Hillary Greene's previous 19 books, but i can't wait to. smart, funny, intuitive and brave, she's a great character, and a pleasure to read. i enjoyed the forays into her personal life as she fights a recurring, troublesome cough and waits for results of her scan. i also appreciated her savvy ways of interrogating witnesses. absolutely delightful and highly recommend.

p.s. thanks to #netgalley and the always awesome @joffebooks.

This is the first book I’ve read by faith. It wasn’t bad but it just wasn’t for me. This book was almost a dnf for me. I had a really hard time getting into it. Thank you Joffe books, Faith Martin and Netgalley for the ARC!

This one was a DNF for me. I tried to read this for over two weeks and kept trying to go back. But I just couldn't seem to get into this one.

Yet again Faith Martin brings us a twisting, turning mystery with Hilary Greene at the helm. I am really enjoying these cold case mysteries, this time Hilary and her small team are trying to solve a decades old case involving the death of a local vicar. I didn't see the twist coming and it was interesting to have a personal battle for Hilary to face as well.

Excellent.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for this copy in exchange for an honest review.

Murder in the Parish by Faith Martin, being the latest in the Hillary Greene, cold case solver series. She and her team manage to solve the case even though 25 years have passed since the murder. These are good characters and an interesting mystery to try to solve.

Hillary’s back! This is the 20th book in Faith Martin’s series featuring DI Hillary Greene. After what I thought were a few unimpressive additions to the series, the author seems to be back in stride. And I hope this series will continue for another twenty books, Hillary’s health allowing (more about that later).

Hillary had a distinguished career in the police department. Her solve rate is still unbeaten and she earned a medal for bravery. She is now retired, but is still working as a consultant in the division that investigates cold cases.

In this book, the case her team is charged to solve is the murder of a village vicar that occurred thirty years ago. This vicar was young (35), handsome, well liked, kind, and devoted to his calling. So who could have wished him dead?

There were three suspects in the original investigation: the victim’s jealous, drug-addicted younger sister, a man who was trying to buy a plot of land next to the church that the vicar had earmarked as additional cemetery space for his congregation, and a woman who was so blatantly besotted with the vicar that her husband divorced her.

News that the case is being looked at again is somehow leaked to the press, and soon Hillary has to deal with an anonymous tip, a visit from a bishop, and suspects who are now forewarned and thus better prepared for her questions. A couple of the suspects receive threats of blackmail.

The case is old and difficult, but Hillary takes it on with her usual diligence, her excellent intuition, and her valuable experience. Despite the fact that she has not been feeling well lately, she doggedly pushes through.

Yes, Hillary consults a doctor because she has been experiencing unusual fatigue and a lingering, wracking cough. An X-ray reveals an anomaly on her lung and a biopsy is taken.

Wishing Hillary good health, with ⭐️⭐️⭐️ and my thanks to the author, Faith Martin, to the publisher, Joffe Books, and to NetGalley for providing me a copy of this book. Available now. #MurderInTheParish #JoffeBooks #netgalley

What a great story. I didn't realize that it was #20 as it was fine all by itself. I will definitely be looking to read more in this series.

Murder in the parish by Faith Martin.
DI Hillary Greene Book 20.
Thirty years ago, two days before Christmas, the much-loved Reverend Keith Coltrane was hit over the head and left to die inside his own church. The killer was never caught.
I really love this author. This series just gets better. 5*.

So happy to catch up with DI Hillary Greene in this 20th entry in the series. Hillary is tasked with solving another cold case and at the same time, faces health challenges that threaten to end her career for good.

Putting her current health worries aside, ex-DI Hillary Greene and her small team of Claire Woolley, an ex-DS with many years’ experience in rape and domestic violence cases and Gareth Proctor, a former soldier invalided out of the army, in the CRT (Crime Review Team) based in Kidlington, receive a new cold case from Supt Roland (Rollo) Sale. Young vicar Reverend Keith Coltrane was brutally murdered with a spade in the doorway of his own church in the village of Lower Barton thirty years ago and the culprit was never found, although there were three suspects at the time, the man’s drug addicted sister, a besotted female parishioner and a neighbour with whom he was feuding over a piece of land. As they start their case review, the press gets hold of news of the investigation and certain people from thirty years ago are becoming very worried. Then the blackmail letters start to arrive. Could the letter writer hold the key to the murder?
This is a great cosy murder mystery story with some nice humour and I for one am happy to see this very enjoyable series being extended. The small team work well together and with less action in this book, the reliance is more on Hillary’s very obvious vast experience to sift through the lies and get to the truth. Finally Hillary is back and it’s been worth the wait!
