Smarty Ants is a fun story with addition, counting, and fun ant puns built in. As a kindergarten teacher, I could absolutely see myself reading this to my students. The illustrations are inviting and fun. I like that despite it being a math based book, the story line was engaging with a little twist at the end I didn't see coming. A great read aloud for any classroom!

Big thanks to Capstone Publishing and authors Coren Rosen Schwartz & Kirsti Call for the advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest reviews!

I enjoyed the story. The early math skills are great and a fun way to incorporate reading and math. The illustration were well done. I read this with a 9 year old and we both didn’t like the ending. We felt it was unexpected and an odd way to end the story. I found some of the rhyming was awkward and didn’t flow when reading it aloud. Overall a cute story that incorporates numbers, math and forgiveness that I would recommend for ages 4-8.

The illustrations were cute and engaging and there are many fine details in each picture to discuss with a child. The rhymes were a bit stilted and would have been better as just a basic counting book. The end was harsh with the destruction of the house the ants worked so hard to build and decorate. While I enjoyed it for the cute illustrations, I would cringe having to read this more than once to children.

Thanks to NetGalley and Capstone Editions for an e-ARC to read and review. I love a good math book, especially when it combines actual equations with conceptual ways of learning -- which this story does so well. It also has heaps of ant puns and plays on words with hidden "ants" in the middle, which is a delight all around. I didn't really love the "elephANT" character, but mostly because I was upset with what he did (even if he's sorry about it.)

I thought the title was so clever and cute. I was intrigued just by the cover. I enjoyed the rhyming and think this would be a repeat book for kids because it's easy to memorize over time and teaches math skills. Highly recommend. The elephANT and and all the other words highlighting ant within it was also a good conceptual skill to learn that I don't think a lot of children books cover.

Smarty Ants is a math centered book. With lots of pleasant rhymes and math equations on the page, it has plenty of sneaky learning. Many words are used that have ANT in them and those are highlighted as well. Lovely illustrations! Very cute book!

Cute and punny! I did not realize how many words had the word ANT in them! I liked the family aspect of the story. They worked together to build a home. I was a little confused at the arrival of the elephant instead of another backyard animal, but still cute!

I love ants, and these ones are just adorable. I love how their black colouring stands out so boldly against the background.

A cute book with lovely illustrations, some simple addition and rhyming along the way.

Such a fun book for very young readers that would aid in learning numbers!

The entire content is so colourful and filled with amazing illustrations.

Also, the community of ants and how ants work together has been shown here. The ending surprised me. Tragedy strikes but all’s well that ends well! Read this book to find out!

Love it.

Thank you, Capstone, for the advance reading copy.
