Velma Dinkley, bring the most studious of the Scooby gang, helps explain some astronomy. Why Velma is doing a book about galaxies and the Milky Way, I don’t know, but I’m here for it! Filled with colorful pictures, short facts and explanations that aren’t filled with jargon, this is perfect for young learners in elementary school.

This is written for those that enjoy stars, science and Scooby Doo. It is for elementary ages. Good for young middle school too. It focuses on looking up at the sky at night and seeing the stars in the Milky Way. This galaxy has billions and billions of stars and you learn about this mystery as well as more in this book. She also joins the rest of the gang to tell us how it is different from other galaxies. It is a colorful book with great illustrations and pictures. This book has many interesting and fun facts as well. It does a great job teaching and in a fun way.

Scooby-Doo was one of my favorite cartoons since my childhood and I would love to watch it again if happen so (but Alas! there is no better cartoon network channel anymore, all spoiled). Daphne, the beauty was my favorite of all but here we got Velma, the brain. This informative educational book told via Velma, in her voice.
There were so many facts that were unknown to most. It is a nice way of telling readers about the science facts. There is lot to learn about astronomical events happening in space for the targeted readers. This is a good for UKG and middle-grade students. Schools can also include it in their curriculam as an activity book.

Velma is the best! Plus, we didn't just get Velma we got the delightful humor of the whole gang while learning some fun space facts. The jokes read just like a Scooby Doo episode and the science information is interesting. I really liked the graphics as well. This is a character collaboration done right.

This is so cute and even as an adult who loves the Scooby-Doo gang this story was definitely informative and educational. I’m definitely going to use a cinnamon roll to describe spirals from now on. This story was cute and the information wasn’t too complex l.

I love Scooby Doo so when I saw a book that featured the Scooby Doo gang I had to jump on. I don't have any kids, I found this book to be fun and full of facts. I loved the pictures and coloring. I did feel like some of the facts did go over my head, but it has been a while since I have been in school, so it was cool getting a chance to learn some more about space and the milky way.

Fantastic and fun concept. Who doesn't love the Scooby gang. All the facts are great and Velma makes it all more engaging. The only thing that wasn't my favourite was the layout. We are told to look at the Milky Way, but you can't even see it for all the text and speech bubbles.. In the end, the Scooby element still makes this one a winner.

This was a very well done. It talks about galaxies and mentions many things that I had never read before in a book of this level. The Scooby Doo portions of it aren’t the best but it is a draw to get the kids to pick up the book. And in this case, it works very well. Overall, this was a fantastic read with interesting information and the kids are sure to laugh and want to read the rest of the series.

This book was very sweet and interesting! I wish I would have had access to these types of books as a child because I think it makes science less scary and more fascinating.
Loved all the pictures and the occasional interaction with the other characters!

SCOOBY DOO.

I've only recently gotten more into Children's books and was pleasantly surprised.

I learned more about basic astrology than in my astrology class in college.

I'm a huge fan of Scooby Doo and loved all the interactions between the gang. The way the book was broken up, between pictures and learning was done very well.

Perfect for fans of Scooby Doo and any kids interested in Astrology.

Thank you to NetGalley and Capstone Press for an e-Arc.

Thank you NetGalley for gifting me a copy of this book in return for my honest opinions.

4/5 stars

This book is a wonderful guide to space and our galaxy. There is so much information that Velma explains to the reader with some humor thrown in form the rest of the gang. Like comparing parts of the galaxy/milky way to different foods to describe their shape to inside jokes about the group.

I can honestly say that I learned a lot from this book and will check back if I’m ever in a situation where I need some galaxy/Milky Way facts! Like that the Milky Way has a peanut shaped bulge in the center of it. Or some thing I should have known but it didn’t occur to me was that star gazing is best done around the new moons! There was so much more helpful information in this book and I would recommend any space or Scooby Doo fans grabbing a copy.

It’s amazing to me that Scooby-Doo is still going strong after so many years. And I still love the gang. Especially Velma.

“Investigating the Milky Way and Other Galaxies with Velma” by Ailynn Collins (pub date 01 Aug 2023) is part of a series of astronomy books for children from Capstone Press. Velma is our guide as we explore the fascinating subject of galaxies! It is a still a mysterious area of science so the Scooby-Doo connection is perfect.

This book for young readers covers galaxies, dark matter and energy (spooky!) and many other things in the universe. I was especially delighted to read about the women who have pioneered research in this area! You know a book is good when you find yourself going down the rabbit hole (or should I say "black hole” mwa ha ha) after reading it. There are some big words to learn but not too many and I think any child (and many adults) would enjoy this informative and fun book! Just wish there were even more gorgeous photos.

My child is all grown up so I probably would have missed this book if not for NetGalley and Capstone Press. Thanks to them both!

Overall, it is a cute story that had its own charm which I genuinely enjoyed, but this one won’t be a love for a lifetime book.

How can you not love a book that involves Scooby Doo and Velma. Velma has always been my favorite! This book wasn't only fun but super informative. I would highly recommend and can't wait to buy for my nieces and nephews!

Review to come July 24th on blog and other places.

Ireceived this book from Netgalley/publisher in exchange of an honest review.

I was instantly pulled towards this one when I saw it on Netgalley. Scooby Doo? Velma? Galaxies? YES! But I am a bit disappointed.

I just had expected a bit more given that it was the Scooby Gang. I think Fred got one appearance, Daphne also one, Shaggy/Scooby several. The images of Velma were just the same x set. I just had expected a bit more playfulness, a bit more animated/interactive. Puzzles. Jokes. Comics. More a Scooby-feel. There is so much that you could have done. Now it very much felt like someone wrote a space book, decided it was a bit bland, and added some popular characters.

But I did like the information we got about space. I did like that it was written in a way that is accessible for even younger kids, and that is worth an applause, as sometimes even those books go a bit too deep in things. But this was actually fun and we learn about galaxies, the milky way, planets, about black holes, about photographs from space, and several other things. I also did like the photographs on every page.

If you are looking for a fun book about space, I would say yes, this is your book. If you come here because you are a Scooby fan along with a space fan.. I am not sure. It just feels as I said and that is a shame.

Very fascinating and fun to read. I am a huge Scooby Doo fan. I love the interactions between Scooby, Shaggy and Velma. This book is very appropriate for the age level it is written for.
Thank you NetGalley, Ailynn Collins and Capstone Press for letting me review the arc of Investigating The Milky Way and Other Galaxies, by Ailynn Collins.

I am a long time fan of Scooby-Doo! So even as an adult I enjoyed this book. It was fun and informative. My six year old daughter liked learning about space as well. She too is a big fan of Scooby-Doo. We will definitely be reading more books by this author!

I read this with my 5 year old, who learned about space at school and enjoys Scooby Doo. This was a big hit, vecause he loves learning new facts, and is a huge fan of Shaggy and Scooby. The characters aren't featured as prominently as Velma, but they do have a cameo.

I like the way the book was broken up with graphics, captions, and trivia to make this a meaty non-fiction book but still easy to put down and pick up and read over the course of several sessions.

Lots of smart sciencey stuff which is great for teaching these facts to kids but there really isn't alot of Velma or any of the rest of the gang and that was literally the whole reason I read this book so that was disappointing. But if you like space and astronomy then this is a great book for you.

This is a very informative book with a fun and familiar cartoon overlay. Velma is a great guide and this is very on brand for her. I learned several things and the book was short enough to be great for younger readers. The delivery of information is very effective and Scooby-Doo characters always make things a little extra enjoyable.
