Another cute picture book about the most famous hippo every Fiona. I've enjoyed watching her grow from a tiny premie into the awesome hippo she is today.

I received an arc of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. Fiona the hippo struggles with all the changes including her friends flying south for the winter and her new brother being born. Fiona must figure out that change is okay.

A cute, if repetitive, look at a child anxious about the change it sees around it. Our heroine is a young hippo in a zoo, who is worried by the sight of the geese flying away. When she is told about the seasons, migration, hibernation and so on, she gets upset at the thought of everything changing and people moving on and forgetting her. And even when she is reassured that a nice and major change has already happened in her life, she is still a bit worried about being left out.

So she sounds a bit too egotistical and needy to my ears, does Fiona. And the book is a slightly ungainly mix of the character's concerns and a lesson for us if we have our own anxieties. Fiona is just worried about winter coming on, and so goes on a mission to find out what animals prefer which season – and none of that seemed nearly as transferable to our own perceived issues as it needed to be. In amongst all the repeated discussion of the seasons and Fiona not being ignored, we get the 'a change is a good thing and nothing to worry about' message, but too lightly in comparison with the hippo-sized doubts of Fiona.

Still, this has the visual entertainment to make the book worth a look, even if it might need an adult to come along and convert it to our circumstances. The dive-bombing tortoise is not alone in looking wonderfully rendered by the artist. I do think the text therefore more lacking in its achievements, and that being the purpose here means three stars only.

Another book featuring Fiona encourages pushing forward when dealing with change. Fiona sees the geese flying away from their home and the season changing. Her life also changes as her new baby brother is born, Fritz. Fiona is worried about losing her friends and family. She copes with the change by drawing pictures of herself to share with the other animals so they remember her. Young readers can lean ways they can cope with change especially moving. Recommended for ages 3 - 7

Oh, I LOVE Fiona! Adorable Fiona that we love to watch from the Cincinnati Zoo, learns about change and how to cope. The seasons are changing and Fiona's friends are leaving to fly south. She is worried they will not come back or they will forget her. Her mom gently explains the seasons and what different animals do during the winter. This story is really cute! My son is 8 months old, so it was over his head, of course, but the illustrations are beautiful and he loved looking at the pictures! My son loves hippos- we visit them at our local aquarium and he has a stuffed one. Fiona is so darn cute! I was excited when I realized she is a real hippo at the Cincinnati zoo, which is really cool. This book is about change, seasons, and friendship. All important lessons I think the target audience of 4-8 year olds will enjoy and benefit from. I sorta missed the lyrical quality you find so often in children’s books, but the cuteness of the story outweighs that.

This is an absolutely adorable story. Perfect way to explain the seasons and what different anaimals do in the seasons. We follow Fiona on her adventures of discovery with her friends and we learn as we go.
Also a story of friends and learning to embrace change that sometimes it’s a good thing.
Wonderful illustrations that really enhance the story and it’s warm feeling and great writing. I loved sharing with my littles. This is great for the classroom too.

The illustration drew me into the story, and the descriptions added to the story. Many of Fiona's questions were not different from what a child would ask.

Fiona learned the animals that migrated and the season in which the animals leave their summer home.Fiona learned that some animals stay through the season, and some leave for warmer weather.

I would recommend this book to any age, I enjoyed the book immensely. The book contains a lesson of season, plus a lesson on migration,

In this installment Fiona and friends teach children about the change of seasons and how some animals leave ( ex. birds ) to follow the warmer weather . It was also a wonderful book to show children about sharing and the true bonds of friendship .

THIS BOOK IS SO CUTE!! If you don’t know, Fiona is a real-life hippo in the Cincinnati Zoo (along with other hippos like Bibi, Tucker, and Fritz)! I wanted to read this book because I saw it advertised on the Cincinnati Zoo’s Instagram page (which I highly recommend following since they frequently post pictures and videos of the hippos—and many other animals). Thank you so much to the publisher, the author, and netgalley for the ARC!

This book was absolutely adorable. Great illustrations and a great message. This teaches kids that change is a natural part of life, and that change happens differently for everyone. Like Fiona, many kids are scared of change. I think it’s great for kids to be able to relate to a cute character. This book also had facts about what different animals do during different seasons, so it’s educational in that regard as well. As a teacher, I love it when children’s books have a great balance of facts and social-emotional learning. This book struck that balance really well.

If you’re an adult with no kids (like I am), I still highly recommend picking up this book. This book will put a huge smile on your face! I definitely want a copy for my future kids (and I also want to visit the Cincinnati Zoo even more). I also didn’t know there were other Fiona books, so I definitely need to check those out too!

We live in Ohio and stay very up to date on all Fiona related news. Reading these Fiona books and going to the Cincinnati zoo is a big part of our family fun. It was great to read this one about change. This book would be great for a child expecting a new sibling. Even a young child moving. It helps explain change in such a beautiful way. The illustrations were beautiful as always. We will definitely be adding this to our shelves.

This is a sweet animal-based book to teach kids about how people can leave, and come back, and still be our friends. Hippo observes that some animals prefer certain seasons and even leave to follow warmer weather, like birds migrating. I would consider this an educational book about animal habits and seasons, as well as a life skills book about relationship permanency. At 32 pages, it is suited for a slightly older child – maybe preschool to lower elementary age. Each page is filled with full color illustrations and approximately 3 sentences of text. I would recommend this for a classroom or home library. Pub date 8/1/23. 5-stars.

She also reminds her about how she felt before and after her baby brother, Fritz, was born.
Detailed illustrations let readers feel they are standing there with Fiona throughout the zoo. Appealing text provides a way for readers to connect and share their own thoughts and fears when changes happen. Terrific book for families and classes when transitions are coming.

This is an adorable addition to the Fiona books. This sweet story about change and friendship was fun to read aloud with my daughter. The illustrations are delightful and make the book even more enjoyable. I would definitely purchase this for my children’s bookshelves.

Our Thoughts~ we enjoyed this book in our household, it really hit the nail on the head with explaining the seasons and how they change as well as explaining hibernation. While learning about the seasons changing Fiona realizes that she won’t be able to see her friends and fears they will forget her so she does something sweet to make sure that doesn’t happen and in return her friends surprise her with something special as well. My Daughter loved the book as well and did enjoy the illustrations. She has asked to re-read it multiple times but she does have a question for the author….

This book does a good job explaining why some animals migrate when seasons chage. The main character is worried about friends not coming back when they migrate, but it gives the message that change can be good.

The Fiona hippo books are fun. I have missed a few so now she has a brother and she’s learning about seasons. As the seasons change some of her friends will hibernate, some will search for warmer climates, etc. but change can have a good side. Fiona just needs to learn that and learn that her friends will always be there. As always, the artwork is lovely and the stories a little long but works very well.

I have thoroughly enjoyed this book and all of them that include Fiona.
I was extremely pleased with the simple description of seasons. The way Fiona feels about losing her friends when they leave for the weather is relatable to kids and what they would feel like.
The little things that this book does like talking about how certain animals prefer certain seasons. It is such a great touch and makes it extremely easy for teachers to tie this to their science units.
The ending was just the best. I sincerely hope that the animals in the drawings are the animals in the zoo with Fiona and that those are their actual names.
I have nothing negative to say about this book. It was amazing and I look forward to many more books!
