I basically grew up on Percy Jackson, so this book already has a special place in my heart, especially as Riordan (and Oshiro!) expand the world of Camp Half-Blood and beyond. While I think that this book is probably best understood and has the most emotional impact if you’ve read the Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Heroes of Olympus, and Trials of Apollo series, I think it’s probably possible to skip the Trials of Apollo before diving into this one. THE SUN AND THE STAR has a different feeling in some ways than the Percy Jackson books, but it still feels like the classic Riordanverse that I’ve known and loved.

To sum it all up, I am both incredibly scared and excited for this book to come out, and while this teaser was absolutely great it’s absolutely ruined my life (in the best way possible) for the next few months!

This was a small chapter sample and not the whole book available as an ARC from NetGalley. The review is my own.

It is great to have more of Nico's story. I like how Rick Riordan builds each book and each series, even though you can read each series independently of each other, it is better reading everything that ties together. Rick Riordan had Nico playing a role in the Heroes of Olympus, but now he is finally getting a book to himself, where he had to admit that he had a crush on Percy, got over it, and is now with Will. This teaser really made me want to read the whole book.

This chapter sampler already proves to be a spectacular dive back into the world of Camp Half-Blood!

From the start, the writing was tugging at my heart from equal parts nostalgia and the gripping stakes. The situation right from the start seems to be rather dire. As it jumps into the first chapter, the writing is so immersive and fun, bringing the reader back to Camp Half-Blood and giving a nice summary as to what Nico is up to these days. And it was all so refreshing to see him evolve from the other series, yet still be so tied down to the trauma he experienced.

The voice also felt distinct, which I love because this becomes it's own thing, even if it goes back to flash through various moments from past books. As a reader, you can tell this is new and fresh, and you can't help but keep reading.

The setup is also very nice so far! Will wanted Nico to take some time off, and Nico looked like he really wished he could, but his past traumas and that voice he keeps hearing doesn't allow him, which then leads directly to their unavoidable quest. So there's a definite call to action while also showing the reader the state of Nico's mind.

This book already proves to be a sweeping adventure just from the first few chapters!

I am so incredibly excited to read this full book!!! This chapter teaser gave us a small glimpse at the adventure that awaits. I have loved Nico from the very beginning and cannot wait to see a book dedicated to him and his love!!!

In true Rick Riordan fashion, this book grabs your attention from the beginning. I appreciate the way events from previous books are woven in without making the reader feel like he's retelling the whole story. I look forward to reading the rest of this book when it is released!

Thank you so much for giving me the chance to read this sneak peek! I’m even more excited for the upcoming release later this spring and continue the story!

My thanks to NetGalley and Disney for a free e-sampler of the first few chapters!

Based on this agonizing teaser alone, this is going to be a wild ride in all the best ways. It was terrifying, heartfelt, thrilling, adorable, gripping, and many other adjectives that I can’t quite come up with. I’m loving the new dimensions we’re seeing to familiar characters. I’m loving the premise and the already-impossible-seeming stakes. Stay tuned for a full review that I’ll post on May 2 after attending the live tour event with Rick and Mark and binge-reading the entire book that same night.

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for letting me read an excerpt. I’ve been a fan of the Percy Jackson books since they came out and this one didn’t disappoint! I can’t wait to read the whole book! I like that Nico is finally getting his own book and can’t wait to see how this story unfolds. I like that Mr.D did take him seriously and not be sarcastic all the time.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this preview of this upcoming novel in exchange for an honest review.

I am so excited for this book, and I was so glad to read the preview for it. Rick Riordan always delivers such amazing books and I am so glad to see a book about Nico finally coming out. I can't wait to see what is in store and will be purchasing immediately.

Thank you to NetGalley and Disney Publishing for providing an excerpt of this eARC for review.

I really enjoy how this started. I always felt that Nico was one of the more interesting characters and we rarely had any insight to his thoughts and feelings. I’m looking forward to the full length novel.

I would absolutely say that it’s necessary to read previous series before venturing into this novel. From this excerpt, you can see that there are going to be many references to previous adventures and characters.

Ok since its only a sampler chapter, I cant really write a proper review but here's some od my comments:

- WILL & NICO LITERALLY PERFECT TOGETHER. Love looks good on him and he deserves it!
- the writing felt different but similar and nostalgic at the same time. I guess that's on Mark's additional flavor
- Mr. D is nice???? who is he and what has he done to the real Mr. D?
- THE LAYOUT WAS SO COOL there's smoky watercolor-like background for Nico's dream to differentiate it with scenes from reality? interesting
- I still want to give Nico a warm hug because he's still have to clean the mess he hadn't made. Also maybe I want to punch Percy a bit for causing some side troubles from his saving-the-world-stuffs.
- CAN'T WAIT TO READ THE REST OF THE BOOK

Review of The Sun and the star - First five chapters
Wow.
After almost three years of being away from the World of Percy Jackson, this was a phenomenal way to be brought back in. To preface this review, Nico di Angelo has always been one of my favorite characters in the entire series and I have always felt most related to him and it was always great to read his point of view in the previous books. But now a book that is, so far, entirely from his perspective...... absolutely. Especially with the fact that we are seeing more Solangelo, I am just utterly delirious with excitement over the pending release of the book.
One thing that was interesting, which correct me if Riordan has done so before, was the change in the paper background (?) to billowing smoke which really helps bring in the dream sequence feel. If you don't want to read the very few spoilers below then let me just say this book will definitely be on my shelf on release day.

[Spoilers ahead]

To begin with, the prelude page to the book's first chapter really sets up anticipation of further in the book where said event most likely occurs. Will being covered in bandages looking tired - which a Son of Apollo tired.... what?!? - that are being soaked with blood again?! The beginning of the story starts off great with mentions of which Star Wars man would be the best date; which was something I didn't know I needed in the Percy Jackson universe. Then you have some interlude dialogue; don't want to go in too much depth so as not to retell the entire book. Then, you get to the dream sequence where the story picks up. Let me just say, Nico di Angelo suffers way too much and just deserves the best of everything. Like his own dreams bringing up Jason yet again?!? Who was basically his first real friend that Nico really opened up to only for him to die?! Then he wakes up and we get some brief Solangelo fluff which is just great. Then, Nico is gifted a quest to travel with which we are left to assume is Tarturus - the darkest and worst place that only three demigods have survived, with a terrible prophecy given, and his boyfriend - who thrives off of sun - coming with him. Let's just say this book will be on my shelf as soon as it is released!!

This is a preview! I'm not sure why that isn't stated anywhere-- I had a huge surge of joy when I saw the "Read now", figuring it was for some promotion, with first 100 readers or so. Alas, it was not to be.

Disappointment aside, it was a fun ride, though I can't believe [REDACTED] is a Reylo, I thought better of [pronoun]. I look forward to reading this later!

So far, so good! I'm definitely eating up the rest of the book when it's out, especially because it's very interesting till what I read, so pretty excited.

I absolutely loved this preview of The Sun and The Star's first five chapters. Nico di Angelo is very near and dear to my heart. He and Will are absolutely deserving of continued story, and I'm so excited to read the full book when it becomes available!

Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with a preview of this book!

I was able to read the first five chapters of The Sun and the Star, and any fan of Rick Riordan’s work will be instantly drawn in by the premise. This book follows Nico DiAngelo and Will Solace, who are recognizable names from former stories in the Camp Half-Blood saga, as they head on a quest to Tartarus. The beginning of this book is flush with Riordan’s characteristic humour, while introducing a more mature element — the extensive trauma that Nico has been through is not going to be shied away from, and I suspect the book itself will explore themes that have yet to be fully breached in one of Riordan’s books.

A full review and updated rating will come once the full book is published, but suffice it to say that as a Riordan fan of over a decade, I’m anticipating its release date even more now!

To say that I cried a little when I saw this would be an understatement. I have missed Nico, a lot. From these first few chapters it certainly seems like the characters and places I know and love are back and I am so happy. I cannot wait to read the full book!!!!!

I absolutely love this. Only got to read first 5 chapters but it starts off super intense like the prologue starts off with will dying so I’m just like what’s happening 🫂😭😭😭 I need this book to come out already because the 5th chapter ends when the adventure is truly about to begin😭😭😭

I am so happy to have a new book from Rick Riordan - I feel like it's been forever since we've gotten to be in his world. This was a great chapter sampler - but if you haven't read these series; Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Percy Jackson and the Heroes of Olympus or The Trials of Apollo you will be spoiled. Even in this first 4 chapters there are things mentioned that you might not have known about, so I would believe even more possible spoilers throughout the book. This book takes you on a "trip down memory lane" but since it's from the POV of Nico you get to see new things and I love that. Also I love the page design that was added when Nico is dreaming - it was a nice touch. Can't wait to read the rest!

Thanks to #NetGalley and #disneyhyperion for an eARC of this book to read and review. #FromtheWorldofPercyJacksonTheSunandtheStar
