I’ve been a fan of Percy Jackson for about half of my life at this point, and reading this sample of the newest in the series was truly something special, especially for somebody who grew up reading all of these books. There are already so many things for me to be excited about, and I’m so glad we’re getting this book so soon.

It was immensely cruel of y’all to give this to us without the full manuscript… I feel like I’m being tortured.
That being said… wow. I could not be more excited for this book! PJO will always be big in my heart!

I realise now that deciding to read these first five chapters of this book was a huge mistake. How’s one supposed to survive until the whole book is available?
I don’t think I’ve ever loved Nico di Angelo more than I do now, and I’m so scared of what is to come in this story.
As with most of Rick Riordan’s books, I was sucked into it right from the first page. I still haven’t read any other books by Mark Oshiro but from what I’ve seen so far, their writing is only bringing benefits to this book.
These five chapters gives us a small taste of our dear main characters e some old friends. They show a lot of what Nico has been through since first Percy Jackson series, and they ask us to be prepare for where the book will take us and what’s might be at stake.
I absolutely cannot wait to read the whole book as soon as possible.

I loved getting to get a tiny glimpse into The Sun and the Star and am so excited to read the full novel!!

I have religiously followed the Percy Jackson world since it came out and was so excited when Rick Riordan announced that Nico was getting the spotlight in this collaboration with Mark Oshiro. I was a little sad that this was only a sneak peak but definitely made me excited to read the full novel! And I can't wait to share my reading opinions with my little readers!!

I am so excited to read this book!! This excerpt provided the perfect amount so that I felt engaged in the story and understand the stakes, but left me wanting more and eager to read the full book.

Thank you to NetGalley, Disney Publishing Worldwide, and Disney Hyperion for a copy of this sampler in exchange for an honest review!!!!!
I have been reading books by Rick Riordan since I was 12 years old and now I am almost 30... I also can't believe how close we are finally getting to the release date of this book. I feel like I have been waiting for so long!!!
Nico and Will are two of my favorite characters from the Riordanverse and I can't wait to finally read this book.
Mark Oshiro is also an amazing author and I have loved every book that they have published so far that I have been able to read. (I still need to read a few of them!!!) I am actually going to be starting Into the Light this week and I will hopefully be able to finish it this over the next few weeks!
I loved these first few chapters and I can't wait to see what happens next even though I am TERRIFIED of that prophecy....
Wish me luck!!!!!!

I hate to say it, but this excerpt has me less excited to read the rest of the book than I was before. Lots of potential here but I'm a little underwhelmed so far.
I really appreciate how quickly we're launched into the action but it felt like a lot of characters and activities that we normally get to see at the begining of an Olympus book are cut out for convenience. Where's the field trip, or the capture the flag? Where's the fun? Instead, we get doom and gloom end of summer. I expected Nico's perspective to be darker, and I love how he is portrayed here but instead of dark self deprecation, it's just boring.
I was so excited for this story and will absolutely be giving the rest of the book the chance to change my mind once it comes out but I'm not sure about this lackluster begining.

I enjoyed this teaser about Nico de Angelo and cannot wait for the rest of the book! Too bad the book isn't being released early for reviewers.

I am so excited to be back in this universe! The Sun and The Star is off to a great start. I can’t wait to see what Nico & Will get up to.
I didn’t realize this was only going to be a short preview, because it wasn’t identified as such on NetGalley. I’ll share a full review once I’ve read the book in its entirety.
Thank you to Disney Publishing and NetGalley for the sneak peek.

Can’t wait for this release! I loved this preview, you got to hear Riordan’s distinct voice, but Oshiro’s too! This one will definitely be added to our bookshelves.

So glad to have gotten a hold of the first few chapters of this! Happy to see Nico getting his own book even though I am absolutely terrified as to what this entails for him. Looking forward to the rest of this!

This preview chapters give us an awesome teaser, I'm so excited for this book!
The sass and comedy elements I love from the Percy Jackson series is here, and I love the focus on queer romance this time!

Chapter Previews Yay, thank you Netgalley!
Percy Jackson was my whole childhood and the fact that it’s been so long since a new release makes this feel like fan fiction. Really good fan fiction but still fiction.
The Sun and the Star showcases characters we all know and love. A bunch of little references from the original series were included which I really enjoyed. The writing style is engaging and fun, and while there are two different authors, I thought the writing blended nicely together. Can’t wait for the release date!

love these preview chapters!! right away, i can tell there's going to be alot of good representation and touch subjects discussed, like nico not eating. this is something im so glad younger audiences can read.

I stupidly thought that this was going to be an e-arc of the whole book but I did enjoy what I've read so far in this teaser. It's been a long time since I dived right back into the world of Camp Half-Blood but it almost felt like coming home. I can't wait to read the rest of the book!

This preview is amazing! Nico and Will own my heart and I can't wait to read the rest! I'm sure the fans of the original series will love it!

Based on a teaser chapter, I can tell that this book is going to be just like any other Rick Riordan novel. Full of excitement, diversity, humor, and a sense of reality in a fantasy world.
Pros:
- Good representation and discussion about tough subjects
- Fun humor
Cons:
- occasionally able to tell the writing difference between the two authors
Overall, I would absolutely recommend this book, especially to those who have read and enjoyed Rick Riordan’s previous books.

I can't wait to read the full story of The Sun and the Star. It's been years since I read the Percy Jackson series but I loved it a lot and this sneak peek only made me more excited to read on. It features the return of old favorites like Nico, Will, Mr. D, and Chiron and promises for an exhilarating and probably somewhat devastating return to the world of half-bloods.
ARC provided by Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

While I was only able to read the first sixty pages of this new novel, I immediately felt as though I was back in the world of Percy Jackson and attending Camp Half Blood. The novel catches readers attentions swiftly and builds off of previous series so that it feels like the continuing of a story versus a side step.
Rick Riordan and Mark Oshiro write 'The Sun and the Star' as if they took Brennan Lee Mulligan and Daniel Howell and placed them in a blender to tell this remarkable tale about a child who has already suffered so much. Many teens, young adults, and adults will be able to relate to Nico as he ventures through his own guilt, self deprecate tendencies, and post-traumatic stress -- especially those who are in the LGBTQ+ community.
Pre-order this book now if you haven't and keep looking for the light, especially in the darkest of places.
