This was an enjoyable fantasy story following Gwayn, head Knight of the round table and King Arthur's nephew. He faces the challenge to behead a mystical shield maidan, and is challenged to have the favour returned if she lives. Of course she does and must find her in 1 year and 1 weeks time. The story is slightly choppy as it jumps forward in time, with him discovering he's going to be a dad. Jumping ahead, he leaves and faces magical traps and other forces to get to the shield maidan to face his honourable death. Needless to say things don't go the way he expected. 1 thing i noticed was when the maiden gets beheaded, she gets up and plops her head back on only to then place her head under her arm a short paragraph later? I loved the twist towards the end of the book, i was very surprised. This story aims to be inspiring, particular towards the end. A bit too happily ever after in a sense for me, but i can see others enjoying the heroics. Overall 3.5 stars
