London (and England, frankly) is always a good idea. (Apologies, but not really, to Julia Ormond's Sabrina and Paris! #sorrynotsorry) And this read reminds me exactly why that's true. The country is beautiful, historic, and versatile; it truly has something (or _somethings_, plural) for everyone.
I've been blessed to travel already to a number of the places mentioned, and this makes me both want to revisit each of them and explore new places, especially some of the lesser-known Cotswold towns. And I definitely had a Jane Austen geek-out moment when Box Hill got featured; the authors might not have mentioned it ;), but this _Emma_ fangirl loved its inclusion. (This miiiight have been the spot of one of my favorite scenes: Knightley's telling Emma off for insulting Miss Bates. "It was badly done, Emma. Badly done, indeed!" [And definitely not the scene I judge every _Emma_ film adaptation by. Nope. Not at all. Will it live up to Mark Strong's delivery?!] But I digress.)
A great collection of inspo for your next day/weekend-trip excursion in Britain.
I received an eARC of the book from the publisher via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.
Pretty Little London: Trips by Sara Santini and Andrea Di Filippo is a sweet compendium of lovely trips within roughly three hours of London, categorized by City & Town, Coast and Countryside. In addition to superb dreamy photography are travel and photography tips, historical bits, travel apps and illustrated maps. Not only that but the authors include tried and true places to stay, eating out (and in), photo ops and breathtaking viewpoints.
There's more, however. The authors recommend specific museums, chapels, food shops, markets, cathedrals and architecture. One of my favourite tips is to buy a National Trust pass...I wholeheartedly agree. So convenient and the properties are sublime.
Whether you read (and gape at the photographs) this jaunty book for inspiration for your first or thirty first trip to England, you will undoubtedly become besotted. It's been awhile since my last trip to England but my heart is beating a little faster and my mind is happily making plans after being whisked away through these pages.
My sincere thank you to Quarto Publishing Group - White Lion and NetGalley for providing me with an early digital copy of this phenomenon book. You don't want to miss this gem.
I traveled to England a few years back and was able to see both a great bit of London and some of the popular outlying areas, and have wanted to go back ever since.
This is the perfect book for those embracing wanderlust and can't wait for their next trip across the pond! A perfect coffee table book for when you need a little dreaming, and a perfect place to start for doing some concrete trip planning.
Pictures highlight some can't miss spots for wandering and great eats, and the tidbits on travel logistics are so helpful for when you're in a spot to plan an actual trip.
There are so many great trip ideas in here, can't wait for the day when I get to actually check some of them off my list!!
Thank you Netgalley and Quarto Publishing Group – White Lion for the ARC in exchange for my review!
Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with an early copy of this book.
The organization of the book involves putting all the locations in three different categories: city and town, coast, and countryside. By doing this, it creates a cohesive way of looking at different locations.
Each location has beautiful photographs that are supported with descriptions of various shops, eateries, and historical sites around the city or town.
It works as a really good travel guide and I would even recommend it working as a list of "personal recommendations" as opposed to those offered in the bigger travel company guidebooks.
I will warn you that there are multiple references to the Harry Potter films. I understand that this would be difficult to separate the two especially since there are overlaps in filming locations and the places selected by the authors.
I am an Anglophile for sure. So, I was very happy to receive an e arc for this title. It is just packed with good ideas for trips that are not too far away from the well-known city.
This book is divided into three sections, City & Town, Coast, and Countryside. I liked the maps with landmarks that begin each of these. In addition, there are many enticing photographs throughout. Cities and Towns that are featured include York, Bristol, Bath, and Edinburgh, along with many more. Coasts include Margate, Whitstable and a number of others, while find the Countryside in Cliveden House, Beaverbrook Country Estate, Box Hill and again, lots more.
I tested the book by looking up some of the places where I have spent time. I think that the authors did a nice job in describing these places. This gives me trust about the places that I have not visited (but would like to) that are featured here. That having been said, each entry is short so readers may want to explore their key locales with additional resources.
There are also helpful sections called UK Travel Tips, and Photo Tips included here. They are worth a look.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group for this title. All opinions are my own.
Note: I enjoyed this couple’s earlier book, Pretty Little London.
This book from the people behind the Pretty Little London Instagram account takes readers on journeys outside of London. The book is filled with gorgeous photographs, as one would expect from the creators of a popular photography instagram account. The book provides brief practical advice on what to see and where to stay on their journeys. I was happy to find that I have been most of the locations featured. I also appreciated that they included tips on taking photos while traveling. This is more of a coffee table book than a true guidebook, but is fun for finding trip inspiration.
Absolutely adorable book with a variety of trips in the UK. Beautiful pictures and ideas accompany each excursion. This would make a wonderful gift or would be an excellent resource for planning.
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for providing this ARC. All thoughts are my own.
The creators of the @prettylittlelondon Instagram account return with a book about sites and cities outside of London. They are great at getting beautiful shots of locations that includes historical sights, scenic spots, shops, houses and even catching the perfect food or hotel room. I’ve been to more than half of the locations that are featured and it is fun to revisit them in beautiful photos. Information includes places to stay, eat or visit and the time distance from London. There are also tips for taking pictures. I was envious of how many photos they are able to get without people in the shots. This is more of a small coffee table photo type book compared to an official travel guide.
The photos are great and I’ve added locations to my hope to visit next time I’m in England list. Thank you to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group - White Lion for temporary ARC and I’m leaving a voluntary review.
Fantastic book with lots of information packed in there. A great gift for a wanderer. However, I’d suggest a different title and have ‘by Pretty Little London’ as a subtitle because it’s kind of misleading. The content is fantastic though!
What a delightful book! As an American, in love with all things relating to England, I adored this book. It gives a lovely overview of the countryside, city, and seaside, and town life. The photos enrich the experience and give the reader a nice taste of the general feel/unique culture of the diverse areas mentioned. This book is fantastic for anyone planning and upcoming trip to England, but also to anyone who wants to enjoy the romance from the comfort of their couch. I will definitely keep these places in mind when I travel to England again in the future. In addition to general descriptions, the book also highlights specific shops, unique history, and fun things to look for that make the areas worth visiting. Very easy to read, and the tips throughout the book are quite nice as well.
A book that will fill your heart with delight. I will not hesitate to buy a copy of this book. The descriptions of the day trips are gorgeous and the photos plus tips are a genius idea.. The only problem that I will have with this book is working out which if the many trips to do first.
This is a beautiful book that not only offers some dream like photos, but also some great tips and tricks for photography and exploring yourself. I love the mix of locations and the ideas about what to do in these places.
Would recommend for anyone who wants to explore this lovely island a little more!
(Defiantly not just for those living in London!)
Sara and Andrea know how to show you around!!! They capture so many elements perfectly…mood, season, available time, and interests. It doesn’t read like a travel guide. Rather it inspired me to want to try new places and see new things! I’ve been to London and many of the surrounding areas, but seeing it from their perspective made it fresh and exciting!!! The photos are amazing and they graciously share tips to help the reader learn how to capture amazing shots as well. I love the maps at the beginning of the sections as they provide great context. Most appreciated though are all the insiders tips along the way. Whether you’re planning on traveling or just want to see some new perspectives, use this book as a guide!!!
I received a complimentary copy from the publisher via NetGalley. All opinions expressed are solely my own, freely given.
Really well put-together book to give inspiration on trips out of London, I enjoyed the mix of areas, some great photography and pieces of history to provide you with a prompt to investigate more!
I absolutely adored this book and was sad as I got close to the end. it was great armchair reading in a rain plagued California winter. I
picked my very favorite destinations..Norwich, Bath and Box Hill and had some lovely imaginative trips. I am usually wary of influencer
driven publications and was happily proven wrong in this case. This was a total treasure of niche travel writing and photography. I feel the same way about big city living and in the US a nature break from
even the traffic of small towns is in order and hard to plan as the many are on the move and the second home market prevails without the charm of history, train travel and countryside that is England.
INCREDIBLE!!! This book makes me want to book a trip ASAP. I love how it was broke down. I loved the pictures and little maps! Highly recommend getting if you’re planning a trip!
This is a good travel book. Gets to the point, lovely photos and some lovely little trips from London. It is one that will happily sit on my coffee today and I think it will inspire some travels!
Synopsis:
***********
A curated guide to the chicest, most stylish and unique trips around the UK – all within easy reach of London – from the creators of the hugely successful Instagram account @prettylittlelondon.
Sometimes even Londoners need a change of scenery – the fresh sea air and the sand between our toes, the bright lights of a new city to discover, the relaxing charm of a small town, or rolling hills with no other people in sight.
Your guides, Sara and Andrea, have scoured the UK for their favourite places to visit for those precious escapes, all a short ride away from the capital. Introducing you to the most stylish destinations, they recommend how to get the most out of each experience with the best places to eat, drink, sleep and shop, as well as providing cultural highlights and picturesque walks.
Each trip is tailored to a mood, interest or season and provides insider tips on how to make the most of your precious time, and – of course – take those all-important photos for your grid.
Whether you’re a born-and-bred Londoner bored of the same old days out, visiting from abroad and want to see the ‘real’ UK or a London-living country bumpkin in need of inspiration – this book will offer something for you. With fifty "day trips" and weekend getaways, Pretty Little London: Trips is the ultimate guide to escaping the city.
This is one of my favourite accounts on Instagram - beautiful photos that inspire me to plan trips that I may never take as London is a long way from London, Ontario where I live. (We have been sticking to Canada and loving it during the COVID endemic and are looking for overseas in 2024 and this book is inspiring our vacation already!)
Nonetheless, this is a gorgeous book that will motivate you if you live there, near there on the continent or are planning a trip in the near future. Great ideas, lush photos and it is so inspiring I am already planning our trip..if a book alone can get me across the pond, imagine what it would do for you if you are closer than a 9-hour flight!?
Fabulous book that I will recommend to all my travellers and lovers of beautiful Instagram accounts.

This was a great short guide to some weekend getaways from London. These are practical for a short weekend or a nice long weekend. They are catered to fulfill every interest ranging from graffiti to castles. I now have a longer list of places I want to travel to.
