I loved Lucy Clarke's first book so I was so excited to be given an e-arc of The Hike!! We follow four best friends in a hiking trip through the mountains. There's drama, wilderness, and SO many twists and turns, I loved it! The ending lacked a bit for me but overall a great read.

I figured it out early-ish but it was still a good page turner!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Four lifelong friends commit to a four day hike in the Norwegian wilderness. Every year they take a trip together, and this year Liz decided a hike is the route to take. The problem? A member of the group looks eerily similar to a missing girl from the year before. All four begin their ascent in this riveting thriller, and it’s impossible not to wonder if they all won’t make it back.

This was my first Lucy Clarke book, but it won’t be my last! I really enjoyed her style of writing, and found it easy to get lost in. Each character had a very distinct voice and was well developed. I really appreciated the alternating POV’s, it really packed the extra punch with each twist and thrill! I basically read this in one sitting, and can’t wait to get a physical copy for my collection!

Huge thanks to Penguin Group Putnam, NetGalley and the author for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Maggie, Liz, Helena, and Joni - four best friends, go on annual vacations together with each one being their own adventure. This time around, Liz chooses to go hiking at Norway's mountain - Blefjell. Things go awry. I liked this book - and the twist was something I never could have predicted. The ending was emotional, and the author did a good job of pulling you into the story. Maggie, Liz, Helena, and Joni had an interesting dynamic, and I did enjoy them all. I would recommend if you're a fan of a thriller, and like a good plot twist!

Thank you to Netgally for the advanced copy! .

✨Thank you @netgalley and @putnambooks for early access to this novel✨

This year for their girl’s trip, it was Liz’s turn to choose where they went. She wanted something more life giving than just lying by the beach so she chose backpacking. Going backpacking through the beautiful mountains of Norway sounds like a rejuvenating adventure for these four lifelong friends. All of them using this trip as an opportunity to walk off what has been weighing them down back at home. But little did they know that more than just the elements were waiting for them on the trail. A killer is close and their friendships will be tested to their limits. Who will make it off the mountain alive?

You know right away that there is murder, so I was intrigued. Backpacking is grueling enough but to have to do it with a murderer there, too? Yikes.

The story did take a turn that I was not expecting. Not entirely sure it was the best way the story could have gone, BUT the ending redeemed it all. I audibly gasped (which is my sign of a good book) when the big event happens. I still can’t get over it now.

🩷What I liked:
* Multiple POV
* Alternating Timeline
* I liked the different personalities that the ladies had, making their friendships seem unconventional but sweet
* There was ALOT more drama than I was expecting

🫢What I didn’t like:
* I wish there was a little more layer to the story, it felt flat at times
* The first third of the book was very slow, I kept waiting for things to kick off but it took a while

I would recommend this book! I liked the mystery and urgency!

I really liked this one! It was the first time I’ve read something that not only had multiple POV’s but also used different tenses. I think the author did a great job pulling it off! It was a bit slower than the usual thrillers I read, but not in a bad way. I did end up knowing who were the good guys and who were the bad guys, but I’m ok with that. I enjoyed reading through how it all played out and watching the women grow through their struggles. I was a little sad to see it end, but I think it ended the only way it could have.

Huge thanks to Penguin Random House and NetGalley for sending me this ARC for review! All of my reviews are given honestly!

Four friends come together for their annual trip, but this time Liz picks hiking in the mountains of Norway. But will all 4 return? Full of atmosphere, I enjoyed this thriller and story of friendship. 3.5 stars from me.

This book kept me guessing until the end. I did want more depth and felt at times that it swapped characters too much but it did keep my attention. I did not care for the ending

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC! My first Lucy Clarke novel and I definitely enjoyed it! I loved that the book was broken up into very short, easily digestible chapters. There was enough suspense to keep me reading but was honestly a little disappointed in the ending. It definitely wasn’t an ending I was expecting, but the build up to it was so intense I was expecting something a little more. Overall, a good story and very well written! I will definitely read more from this author.

3.5, Four close friends, Maggie, Liz, Helena, and Joni, go on annual vacations together with each one being their own adventure. This time around, Liz chooses to go hiking at Norway's mountain Blefjell. The description makes it seem like one of the four friends ends up dying on the mountain, but that is not the case. I am giving this book 3.5 stars because I felt like the description was a little misleading. I do not like where the plot ended up going. The ending of the book was emotional, though, and I really enjoyed all the characters. Maggie, Liz, Helena, and Joni had an interesting dynamic. This was not the best thriller I have ever read, but I will most likely read another Lucy Clarke book.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The Hike by Lucy Clarke. 4.5 stars rounded up to 5 for the twist 3/4 of the way in. Forever friends Joni (Rockstar), Liz (overachiever), Helena (perpetually single) and Maggie (nurturer) embark on their annual Girls Trip in which they will wish they never took. Highly suspenseful, they find themselves and information about themselves that may or may not be life-changing during this journey. This is a story that one could easily see as fiction or non-fiction during this Holiday of a lifetime. Thank you @netgalley and @lucyclarke_author for this fabulous ARC. #thehikebook #booktok #bookstagram #fivestarbook #mystery #suspensethriller

I loved it! This is such a well-written story I was sad when it was over. Clarke did an amazing job with setting the scene and pulling me into the story. The emotions I felt while reading were very strong too. When any of the characters found themselves angry, or scared, or brave I genuinely felt it. The four POVs worked wonderfully too! The twists in the story had me shocked and I ate it up! I loved being totally stunned how this unfolded in front of me. I want to search out more of Lucy Clarke's work because I loved this so much!! 5 stars!

Nice, little thriller based on four BFFs' hiking trip in Norway. Had a great plot / pace and I finished in less than a day. The main characters all have depth and enjoyed all four of their points' of view. 4 stars because the ending was a little unrealistic. Thank you NetGalley for the ARC!

I loved the plot of this book so I was very excited to read it. I couldn’t put it down until the 60% mark, which without spoilers, introduces a factor that I feel like was a bit of a cop out for the progression of the story. Unfortunately after this happened the book went downhill from there.
However, if you like what happens to progress the story, you’ll be a fan of the last half of the book.

I enjoyed following along with Liz, Maggie, Helena, Joni and all the characters they meet on their hike. The beginning was a slow build but I couldn’t stop reading once the hike begins. I had to know who the killer was and if the friends would make it off the mountain. I was surprised by the ending and found this book a refreshing read compared to some thrillers I’ve finished. Highly recommend!

This was a great book!
Kept me on the edge of my seat. A page turner with lots of great twists. The only thing was that I sometimes got confused with of the characters were which because there were so many, especially when it came to the norweigan characters because their names were similar. Also was hoping there would be one last twist at the end like that Jodie was actually pushed or something, but maybe I am being greedy.
This was such an interesting and unique story.. thank you for sharing it!

A hiking trip, a storm, a murder- I bet they wish they had gone to the beach again.

This is a fast-paced thriller where four friends set out on a hiking trip that they should never had gone on. A storm rolls in and then we're left to decide who can be trusted and who is a murderer. Overall, a fast and fun read.

I really enjoyed getting to know Joni, Maggie, Liz and Helena. I didn't see the ending coming. Thank you for the arc Netgalley.

First off, thanks to netgalley for providing me an ARC!

This year was Liz's turn to choose where the yearly friends' trip is.. and she chose to go hiking/camping the Blafjell mountain.
When arriving at the local lodge near the trailhead, it was the end of the season, and locals were having a party. They heard tales of the peak being spooky and the story of a local woman going missing while hiking. The brother of the lodge, Erik, was the last to see her alive.
Even with all this information, the woman goes hiking.
While walking, they all unpack their issues. Maggie gets lost of the trail. And it ends up making them more determined.
However, when a rain storm rolls in while camping near the beach, the group needs to hide out in a cave to stay safe. That's where they find the missing local girls bracelet and massive amount of Coke.
They needed to get out of there quickly, but they had lost everything in the storm, and those hiding the cocaine would be coming for them.

Very good and fast read! I'd recommend it for any thriller lover

I received this as an advanced copy from NetGalley. This is the first I’ve read from Lucy Clarke and won’t be my last. The book alternates chapters between the main characters and chapters with another character to weave in another storyline. Definitely had me guessing at what would come next and needless to say there were plenty of surprises. The gorgeous descriptions make me wish I was hiking across Norway, but the storyline makes me think I’m good at home!
