I enjoyed this thriller- though I wouldn't say it's very thrilling. More of a slow burn. Great character development and well written.

The Hike begins at the end and then goes back to the beginning. Set in the Swiss alps the book examines the cracks in relationship that appear under great stress and explores just how far someone will go to keep secrets.

The Hike is engaging and a fast paced read.

This was a tense, wild adventure! When four friends decide to take a hike in the wilderness in Norway, they have no idea the dangers they will face. I became more and more tense as I was reading, wondering if Liz, Helena, Maggie and Joni would make it out of the dangers they faced. Just when I thought they would be okay, they faced yet another threat. And the danger wasn't just from the mountain they were climbing. Some sketchy characters made this read very stressful. I was thoroughly engaged from beginning to end, and surprised by the ending. If you're looking for a gripping story, this one's for you!

I finished this book so quickly, which just means it was definitely a page-turner. I really wish one of these friends that went on this hike together would have just stopped and tried to figure things out a little better and make better decisions, but hey.....that's just human nature sometimes I suppose. Overall, it was very good and I would recommend it to my suspense seekers especially those who love the outdoors. I think I will stick to reading and maybe not go hiking anymore.

Thank you to NetGalley and PENGUIN GROUP Putnam for the ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. I really enjoyed this book. It was an easy and quick read and I found myself cheering for the main characters throughout the book (nothing is worse than when you read a book and don't like any of the characters- thank goodness this wasn't the case here). I also appreciate that the author didn't go the "always a happy ending" route and kept it more realistic. This was my first Lucy Clarke book but I am excited to read her others now! 4 Stars!

I really enjoyed this book and finished it in just one evening! Three (and eventually four) friends go away for a vacation every year and this year, one of them has picked a challenging Norweigian hike. The trail is secluded and isolated a la Agatha Christie and the environment is incredibly eerie! I was hanging on to the edge of my seat so to speak for the entirety of the book - and the twist shocked me!! An excellent thriller.

Not a single person in this book made a single good decision in the entirety of this whole story. If just one person had said, "Hey, maybe we should stop and rethink this." there would have been no story - which, okay I get then there's no book. But that as a plot device just rubs me the wrong way, because the whole time I just am yelling in my head "YOU'RE BEING SO DUMB." and I get distracted from anything else the writer is trying to do or say. 3 stars only because I did fly through this and it was entertaining.

This book was a quick read for me. It kept me interested the whole time but always was just a little short of I can’t stop reading this page turning euphoria that I have had with other thrillers.

I will say that the characters packed a lot of story about their back histories and conflicts and made me interested in all four of them early on. I even imagined who in the group I would be, Helena, and who of my friends are similar to Liz, Maggie & Joni.

Over all it was good, just not quite to the point of great for me. I’d give it a 3.5 if I could!

I loved getting to know the characters in this story. The hike is about 4 best friends that vacation together every year. This year, they are going on a hike through the mountains. They fully expect it to be difficult, but they have no idea what is actually in store for them on the trail.
They tried to leave their messy lives behind them but just walked into a bigger mess on this trip.
I rated it 3 stars because while this book had some twists and excitement, the story included many elements that I have read in many other novels. Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for this ARC.

4 women, who are best friends for years (yet full of secrets from each other) go on their annual girls' trip. This trip is unlike their usual mojitos on the beach because Liz has decided they are going to complete a four-day hike up a Norwegian mountain, known to be treacherous and deadly.

This is my second Lucy Clarke book and she does the most fantastic job of developing her characters and building their relationships. Her characters - their personalities, secrets, desires, and true selves - are what make her books so hard to put down. This book was no exception. When you start this book when you have a chunk of time carved out in your day, because I think you’ll have a tough time putting it down too. I really, really enjoyed this one!

The quick chapters and face-paced twists and turns make this a suspenseful rollercoaster, where the danger of the hike becomes a shadow of concern for the reader. You don't know what's coming, so buckle up! Add this to one to your TBR, asap!

Lucy Clarke is always an auto-buy for me. This started a little slower than usual since you have a larger main character group to introduce.

I loved that this was a thriller with quite a few twists and turns but, also dug into adult friendships and real life problems intertwined with the thriller aspects.

A fun ride, or should I say hike?

Ooo, Lucy Clarke certainly has a gift for transporting readers to the setting she so deftly describes. She also has a way for writing female friendships. I was a fan from reading “One of the Girls,” and “The Hike” reinforced that. I wouldn’t mind revisiting Helena and Maggie in a future book! *I received this book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.*

This was my very first book of Lucy Clarke, and I am very impressed! Definitely it won't be the last.
The Hike puts friendship to the test, with the secrets, and all the drama and suspense.
It was a page turning for me, and I couldn't put it down! I read super fast too!

Thank you NetGalley and Penguin Group Putnam for the advanced digital copy in exchange for my honest review.

This was a great read! Hiking and thrillers are my two favorite things so it was easy to fall in love with this story of 4 friends on a hike in Norway. It is beautifully described and full of twists and turns- it's very well written. It was a quick read with a sort of satisfying ending! Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for the ARC in exchange for my honest review. I will definitely recommend this to others!

I gave this book The Hike 4 out of 5 stars! Thanks to Net Galley for the ARC. The story grabbed me from the beginning, and kept my attention until the very end. The descriptions of the mountains and the coast in Norway were breathtaking.

An amazing read! 4 best friends travel out to the mountains of Norway to hike one of the hardest and tallest mountains out there. Along the way, friends fight, blisters form, and an Erie sense of unease fills the friends. Will the man fishing turn out to be a danger? Or will all four friends return home to their families. A page turning thriller, one you wont be able to put down. I finished the thriller in just one day.

Nothing is more frustrating than being eager to get your hands on an advanced copy just to be let down.

This was a great poolside read, with a digestible plot I could binge read in one day. But the reason why I was able to fly through it so quickly is because I was so eager for *something* to happen for the first 65% of the book.

Slow burn thrillers work really well for me on one condition: if the characters are really well flushed out and I find myself rooting for them. Unfortunately, this wasn’t the case. They lacked depth that I was craving and didn’t stand out enough for me to care for any of them.

Once the plot twists came, I couldn’t decide if they were too cliché for my liking or if it felt too much like a Lifetime movie plot twist.

Overall, the writing style itself was solid and the author did a phenomenal job building a vivid and atmospheric setting, but this one wasn’t my cup of tea.

I love a good survival story! This story follows four friends into the Norwegian wilderness on a hike that turns deadly. And as if the weather wasn’t bad enough, there is also a killer on the loose. Friends Helena, Liz, Joni, and Maggie must work together to overcome their own demons and secrets in an epic fight to stay alive.

Although I found the book a little slow at the start, it picked up nicely building suspense and was a solid 4 star read! Loved the initial character development and seeing how all of the ladies grew throughout the story.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC of The Hike by Lucy Clarke, releasing Aug 29,2023, in exchange for my honest review.

I am very torn with this book. I really enjoyed the short chapters and writing style but I found the side characters very strange and difficult to keep track of throughout the story. I got it by the end but I almost gave up quite a few times. I would still read more from this author though.
