This was a happy little read! I received an advance copy thanks to Net Galley. Super cute, enjoyable holiday story. It was really like a Hallmark holiday movie wrapped up in a book. A little cheesy and predicable as all good Hallmark movies are, but a fun, feel good story. The three holidays storyline gave it substance too - it was really interesting to learn more about the holiday traditions and customs of Ramadan/Eid, alongside celebrations of Hanukkah and Christmas. 3.5 stars - recommend this one, especially to read around the holidays.
Three Holidays and a Wedding is a fun and thoughtful story of two women who meet at the airport and find themselves stuck in a sleepy town in Canada.
The combination of meet cute and second chance is everything, and the mix of holiday diversity was done so well!
I absolutely loved Maryam's grandfather! He adds a layer of depth to the story with his kindness, tales, and guidance.
I can't wait to read more books from Uzma and Marissa!
This was such a unique, special, fun story! I loved reading about the three special holidays of the winter season— Ramadan, Christmas, and Hanukkah. I loved seeing the different religious perspectives here, as well as the several different stories that bring together these characters and holidays. I appreciated the humor and diverse characters (not just religiously) as they tell their stories of love and life. Maryam and Anna are the main focus in this book, along with their side characters and interests. But I loved how this book brought such a realistic storytelling to these characters— showing the real/i likable sides of them as well as the fun/loving/ likable sides as well. I love stories that show the wide ranging levels to characters—just like real people not being all good and all bad, we’re a mix of good and bad which makes us real. My favorite parts of this story are in the representation of the Christian, Jewish, and Muslim big faith holidays of my favorite time of year. I can’t wait to read again when this releases around the holiday season.
Thank you for the ARC!!!
I had to tap out fairly early due to poor editing/writing. The biggest miss was the long description of the mini dress under a blazer that the mc is wearing so she can go straight to a cocktail party. She then keeps wiping her sweaty hands on her jeans while on the flight. This might seem minor, but it immediately kicks me out of the immersion in the book.
Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC for an honest review.
I have read multiple books by both authors previously so it was really interesting to see their styles intersect here and both styles were distinctly present. A cute, multicultural holiday romance!
Three Holidays and a Wedding delivers on it's promise - a super sweet, tai-holiday romance set in the small town of Snow Falls, Canada during an epic snowstorm in 2000, the last year that Ramadan, Hanukkah and Christmas all fell at the same time.
The inciting incident for the story is when the flight from Denver to Toronto experiences major turbulence. Strangers and seat mates Anna and Maryam start to reveal their deepest darkest secrets, thinking the end is near. It turns out the plane is fine, but Anna is shaken up knowing the life she's flying to in Toronto is not one she actually wants, and Maryam is shaken up when she finds out her crush Saif heard her whole confession.
What unfolds is a few days snowed in to a town made for Hallmark holiday films. If you've seen one, you know the shape of this story. PG romance, a classic miscommunication, and a happily ever after in the end.
Three stars for this one - I was hoping for maybe a little more depth, but it is a completely serviceable holiday romance that will really scratch that itch. Thanks to NetGalley and G.P. Putnam for the ARC.
Three Holidays and a Wedding was such an entertaining read. I loved the cozy holiday vibes in the story. I loved the family dynamics and characters in this book!
This book honestly could be a Hallmark movie, with how cute and happen stance it is! What are the chances they land in a very small Canadian town that just happens to be very inclusive to Muslim holidays, Christmas, and Hanukkah. Not to mention the 5ft. + of snow that apparently never stops in Snow Falls, Canada.
I think this book had really beautiful content, it had clear inclusion as it was a 'tri-Holiday' book! It included Ramadan, Hanukkah, and Christmas. The authors did a wonderful job of tying in romance, with the right amount of humor. They included friendship, wise grandparents, and meet cutes.
I enjoyed this book and think that it could be very touching to those who celebrate Ramadan, and Hanukkah and how inclusive it was with the small Christmas town they were in, and the terms, and celebrations that were mentioned, I just don't personally have a connection to those things. It's definitely worth the read though!
3 Stars: I liked it
I love a Holiday themed book so I was excited to pick this one up. I thought it was cute and true to what the plot is described; a holiday meets Four Weddings and a Funeral. One problem I did have is when there are several stories happening at once it’s only a fact that you’re gonna care more about some more then others so some parts of the book did seem slow for me.
Thank you NetGalley and PENGUIN GROUP Putnam for the ARC.
3.75/5 stars! I picked this book up because Uzman Jalaluddin was one of the authors and I've enjoyed a lot of her other books. This book was exactly what you'd expect based on the cover and premise. It felt like a humorous mix of Four Weddings and a Funeral meets holiday hijinks. There were overlapping storylines and plenty of meet-cutes. I liked the story quite a bit. I would only say that sometimes the competing storylines were hard to stay engaged with. I feel like the reader will have a favorite couple and then skim through the other couples' sections.
I received a free copy of this book via NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving a review
When the tagline read, "For fans of Gilmore Girls and Practical Magic" I knew this would be the perfect book for me.
This is such a cozy read, the characters are fun and likeable! I struggled to put the book down the magic in the book mixed with the amazing characters just sucked me in. My favorite character in the book was definitely Gigi, she was so spunky. I also loved the way food was the cornerstone in this book. I loved the little recipes included within the book, such a sweet and personal touch.
Honestly, this is the perfect fall read! I can't wait for you all to read this one, it'll be released September 19th.
Many thanks to NetGalley and the Publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
3.5 stars. I loved the unique concept of this book! The characters were fun, especially Dadu! Getting lost in the description of Snow Falls was magical and I can't imagine ever leaving a place that idyllic. Super cute read for the beach and all the holidays!
This book was so good!! I really loved all the characters and the town of Snow Falls was the perfect setting. I thought the authors did such a good job at incorporating all three holidays in a very fun and natural way. It was just the perfect holiday book and I’m so glad I received an arc!
Thank you to NetGalley and Penguin Group Putnam for giving me access to this book!
This is such a cute story about everyone coming together to celebrate different religions and a wedding! There are friendships built and multiple love stories throughout. It would make the cutest Hallmark movie with a perfect Happily Ever After. After reading this book, I want to visit Snow Falls!
It's 2000, when Christmas, Hanukkah, and Ramadan/Eid all overlap. Maryam and Anna meet on a flight from Denver to Toronto, when both are on their way to their upcoming holiday events. Maryam and her Muslim family have a week of activities planned, leading up to her sister Saima's wedding. Anna is joining her boyfriend's family for the "perfect" Christmas celebration and has discovered an engagement ring in his luggage. But when the "snowstorm of the century" diverts their plane away from Toronto, they find themselves in tiny Snow Falls, Canada, with diminishing hopes of making their important connections.
Both young women are beginning to realize that they are not happy with their lives. Maryam has sacrificed her own dreams to join her family's pharmacy business and to be their relied-upon "fixer." Anna also dreams of a different career, misses her family's joint Christmas/Hanukkah festivities and her estranged stepmother, and wonders whether her boyfriend is really "the one."
The book had a slow start for me, but I was soon engaged when the unexpected wonders of Snow Falls, a movie set, a local holiday play, a would-be bride, and some new love interest (one an old friend and one a new acquaintance) turned it into a magical holiday story. Anna's boyfriend is an unrelentingly awful person--why has she stayed with him for six months?--but the rest of the characters are nuanced and believable. I really enjoyed this unusual holiday romance.
My thanks to NetGalley and Penguin Group Putnam for the opportunity to read and provide an honest review of the book.
What a cute cover. I wanted to read the book ASAP because of it! Fun title as well. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC for the purpose of this review. Three stars for the cute concept.
Christmas, Hanukkah, and Eid fell within days of each other in December, 2000 — for the first time in over 30 years. Anna Gibson is traveling to meet her boyfriends family for the first time. Maryam Aziz and her family are going to her little sister wedding. They meet in the Denver airport on their way to Toronto and turn out to be seat mates. After some terrible turbulence due to a snowstorm, the flight is diverted to Snow Falls, forty miles from Ottowa. All Anna wants is to celebrate the holidays with family again. All Maryam wants is to be seen. Will there be some holiday magic for these two? Read and find out!
In the beginning of this book, I really didn’t like Anna. She was clearly dating the wrong person, was a little too aloof, and, well, I’m with Maryam when it comes to strong smells. However, the more I read, the more Anna grew on me.
Maryam, on the other hand, I liked right away. I connected with her attitude and spirit, as well as her aversion to strong smells. She was kind, empathetic, and an overall likable character. She reminded me a lot of myself, taking everything on herself and not having people to rely on. (Yes, she has her family, but she is the problem solver).
Snow Falls was a wonderful back drop for the story. It had all the charm from your favorite Christmas movies. I could not get over the names of the shops!
Kaif was a great love interest, you really want to root for him. Nick was exactly who I expected, Josh was too sweet (in a good way) and also exactly who I expected, Mr. Dadu was my all time favorite, and the townspeople were the right amount of quirky.
This is exactly the kind of heartwarming holiday book I want to read. It has the perfect combination of holiday charm and self-awareness a book like this needs. Plus, it’s reference to the “Heartline Channel” was glorious.
Thanks to NetGalley and PENGUIN GROUP Putnam for an arc of this book.
This was a unique, cute holiday romance. It was definitely a little cheesier than the books I usually like, but it was a fun world to spend time in. I wish Snow Falls was real! The characters were likable but not especially developed…. The “villain” characters were two dimensional which always frustrates me. However, I loved the representation of Hannukah and Eid, and as someone who does not celebrate either, I feel like I learned a lot from this book about those celebrations. Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for this e-arc.
a quick read, involving Christmas, Hanukkah and Ramadan, and a snowstorm. very cute story., read it in one afternoon.
Three Holidays and a Wedding was such a fun read. I loved the cozy holiday atmosphere the story took place in. It took a bit for me to get sucked in, but then I couldn’t put it down. The characters are sweet and I love the family dynamics and relationships in this book.
