4.25/5 stars!!
Honestly, I think this may be my fav Tessa Bailey novel yet!! The enemies to lovers trope is something I love from Tessa because she just KNOWS how to write cheeky banter with hilarious sexual innuendos so well!! Her books makes you cry with laughter (whether it's cringey or not) and this was no exception. It's crazy to think this entire book took place over less than two weeks because it feels like you get so much that it felt longer in the best way. The plot was quite enjoyable and really makes me wish it was a movie.
The chemistry between August & Natalie was fantastic and I loved the way their characters develop. August was soo gone for Natalie from the minute he laid eyes on her. Though he loves to think with his downstairs pal a lot of the time, I feel like it adds to his charm and makes him more realistic. Plus, the care he has for his girl is the most precious thing and really evens it out (especially his reassurance, that had me constantly swooning). Natalie is such a strong and relatable character. She works so hard and is quite underrated and it's so amazing to see August notice her and give her smarts the recognition she deserves.
Overall, I loved banter and the chemistry and I cannot wait to read more from Tessa. I am volunteering to leave a review for an ARC of this book <3
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book provided by NetGally. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
“Unfortunately Yours” by Tessa Bailey is an enemies to lovers, marriage of convenience love story, although I would say it is just about two stubborn people who won’t acknowledge their own feelings. Which is usually the case with this trope. August and Natalie are really attracted to each other, but because August can be a bit of a pain, their one chance to act on their lust turned sour. From then on, they became enemies. Until they were forced to get married as a final attempt to solve their problems. (Un)Fortunatly, it turns out that it is not mere lust what is behind that attraction.
This book was a lot of fun, with good banter and a great opening line. Although it felt a bit long and sometimes repetitive, there was good character development and a solid base for the love story. I loved the ex-navy winemaker meets wolf of Wall Street setting, and I appreciate that it does not relay so much on cliché stereotypes.
Natalie is a down on her luck wine heiress who needs access to her trust fund so she can get back in the New York game and August is an amateur wine maker trying to live out his best friends dream who needs a bank loan to keep it alive. August and Natalie have hated each other since their ill fated first date. Enter a fake marriage so they can both get what they want, but is it really as fake as it seems?
Ahh Tessa Bailey does it again! The banter between these two is on point. I love how they totally give it to each other but they’re instantly to each others defence if someone else tries to bring them down. They’re instantly a team without even knowing it. The chemistry and tension between these two is fire, but my favourite part is Natalie’s development and finding herself and learning that all she needed was to believe in herself … with August’s help of course
I really enjoyed this book. I don’t know what it is but I stand by my rule, the second book is always the best!
When heiress Natalie returns home, she is determined to get her hands on her trust fund so she can start her own business. But her trust fund has conditions attached to it, namely she needs to be married. Cue August, ex Navy SEAL trying his luck at starting his own winemaking venture. With Natalie's name and expertise, his business will definitely receive a boost. A fake marriage would benefit them both but will they be convincing enough?
What a delight this book is! I have to admit, I was quite skeptical after not loving Secretly Yours but Unfortunately Yours has knocked it out of the park. From that classic first line (if you've read it, you'll know!) through all the witty banter and snarky arguments, I couldn't help smiling throughout the book. This type of romcom is why I love this genre! And August, you are my new favourite book boyfriend.
Tessa Bailey giving us a marriage of convenience? Umm…yes please!! When I tell you that I absolutely devoured this book in one sitting, I mean it.
Natalie and August have my heart. Their banter was everything and more. Where Natalie was confident and assertive, August was sensitive and dirty, and I loved it. I loved them.
Cannot wait for more.
Natalie Vos is at a loss (ha!). She has come home to lick her wounds after a disastrous wall street trade that has seen her lose her job and her fiancé. However, things are no better at home. Her brother and mother do not consider her to be part of Voss vineyards and only here to drink the wine. If only she could get her hands on her inheritance, which she can only claim once she is married. But who will marry this bitter, argumentative woman?
August is an ex Navy SEAL and has bought a vineyard to honour the memory of his best friend Sam. All is not well, his dreams are crumbling and his wine tastes like crap! He is broke and about to give up when Natalie comes stumbling into his life demanding a marriage of convenience. But they hate each other, right?
Will Natalie get her inheritance? Will August make any decent wine? Can they see past the bickering to find love?
This was magnificent. I think it is one of Tessa's spiciest stories but completely amazing. The banter between these two was wonderful and reading them falling in love was swoon worthy. August is a true romantic and exactly what Natalie needs. Better than the first book!
4.5 stars!
"i'm done obsessing about you every waking second and having no idea if you're obsessing about me too."
"I count the minutes until we're breathing the same air again."
I didn't know what to expect from this and I was so happy that i LOVED IT!!
A small town, marriage of convenience, despise-to-lovers book with the right amount of spice, sweetness and swoon! It was so easy to read and follow along despite not having read the first book in the companion novel series. August was so so charming and sweet - his protective side was swoooonworthy. Natalie is an independent, feisty woman who despite the issues in her life is always down for her loved ones. August and Nat's banter was TOP TIER.
Enjoyed this so much that I am excited to read Secretly Yours now.
*thank you to netgalley and harper collins australia for a free e-arc copy of this book.
Unfortunately yours, while I wouldn’t necessarily peg it as “enemies to lovers”, brings all the sexual tension, dirty talk and overall funny moments you anticipate when picking up one of Tessa’s books.
I loved the dynamic between August and Natalie. The epitome of golden retriever/black cat reverse grumpy sunshine. The banter and barbs between them was done to perfection. What I loved more, was the way they progressed through their relationship. The way they were able to dissect between what was fair play and what actually hit a sore point was sooo good. Both characters took a lot of accountability to get to where they needed to be which we love to see..
What I think made me really enjoy this book were the layers to Natalie.
She comes across snobbish, standoffish and almost uncaring to a lot. She’s worked her way up in an entirely different world, simply because she didn’t feel appreciated or welcomed in her own. (“Pretending made her feel better.”)
I really empathised with her as the story progressed and we were able to see the different layers to her character. I love a good marriage of convenience rom com, and this was that and just a little bit more which totally beat my expectations.
I also loved that along with the resolution to the romance in the story, we also saw progress between Natalie and her family. Considering this was the root cause of a lot of her internal conflict, I’m glad we got that!
Thank you to HarperCollins Australia, Avon & NetGalley for a copy of this in exchange for my review.
Unfortunately Yours by Tessa Bailey is a contemporary romance with humour and intense passion. Set in a wine-making district, we find Natalie and August who mutually dislike each other, facing financial issues that lead them into a marriage of convenience. This volatile relationship becomes a bit of a roller coaster with lots of ups and downs!
I enjoyed the emotional conflict and intense bantering between Natalie and August as well as the internal conflicts both were experiencing as their private and public fake marriage relationship evolved. The humour was great and the private scenes were sizzlingly vivid.
Not having read the first in this series Secretly Yours didn’t diminish this story but after reading Unfortunately Yours I’m looking forward to reading it as I enjoyed Tessa Bailey’s writing style which was fast moving, humorous and full of vivid, raunchy scenes.
Highly recommended for those who enjoy a contemporary romance.
This review is based on a complimentary copy from HarperCollins Publishers Australia via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
#UnfortunatelyYours #Netgalley
This was such a great story. I’m a sucker for a marriage of convenience and this was fantastic. I really enjoyed the banter between the characters and the chemistry was delicious! August was exactly what Natalie needed in her life & I loved his humour and determination. Such a fun read!
Bonus points for the adorable epilogue.
Thank you to NetGalley and HarperCollins Australia for an e-ARC copy. All thoughts are my own.
Unfortunately Yours is a great little romp for those looking for something that's instantly hot and brimming with passion. Unfortunately for me, I like a little more story and character development in my romances and found it hard to remain engaged. Natalie and August had great chemistry in Secretly Yours (which I enjoyed), so I was eager to learn more about them in their own book.
But this just didn't click for me. From the insta-love, endless cringey dirty talk, and lack of character growth, I struggled to have any interest in either character after 30% in. There was fantastic setup there for Bailey to delve deeper into both Natalie and August, which was ignored in favour of more smut than necessary. And if they weren't getting it on, they were either having super petty fights that they never resolved as mature adults (unless you count angrily making up through intimacy) or thinking about the other naked and what they wanted to do. Sex talk was highly inappropriately placed at times, conflict was hastily shoved in every corner and equally resolved in the same manner. After reading 300+ pages of two adults who needed to open up about their trauma to others, take the opportunity to ask for help without expecting the world to sh*t on them, and learn to resolve miscommunication properly, there's the sweetest little bow to wrap this whole world up that was unsatisfying. I never felt as if Natalie or August knew the other like they claimed to. There was no real downtime for them to get to understand the other's personality, which is where my biggest issue lies. If there had been more focus on character trajectory (outside of the spicy elements), then I would have enjoyed this a great deal more.
Tessa Bailey is very hit for me, and aside from the Bellinger Sisters series, I'm yet to find any consistency in me enjoying this author every time. Therefore, I acknowledge I'm not the right reader for this type of story.
Top-tier Tessa Bailey!! I am a big fan of hers, but I do have to say that I didn't LOVE Secretly Yours (I think mostly because of the letter-writing thing). If you're in the same boat, go read this immediately!! I feel like this was up there with the best of them (It Happened One Summer & Hook, Line and Sinker, of course). The tropes in this book were done to absolute perfection and Tessa Bailey never misses with the banter and spice *chefs kiss*. I loved both of the MCs but especially August - he's such a golden retriever and it's adorable. Also, now I want a cat called Menace.
Wow, just wow! Tessa Bailey has done it once again, you’ve taken my heart on an absolute roller coaster!
This marriage of convenience, and opposites attract has given me everything I could have wanted and more. The chemistry between August Cates and Natalie Vos is completely off the charts, they have taken me from nervous anxiety, to hysterics and everything in between.
If you haven’t pre-ordered your copy of this book, I would suggest doing it now. The journey is worth every second.
August and Natalie have now moved into my favourite couple position of all time. 🥰 thank you so much for letting me read this ARC! I’ve already got my copy pre-ordered, I can’t wait to dive in and read Unfortunately Yours from the beginning again.
Unfortunately, Yours
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫
And just like that my faith in Tess Bailey’s writing has returned!
While Secretly, Yours didn’t hit the spot with me, this book made up for it in spades! Maybe it could of had a few more harsh details of being a navy SEAL, but in saying that, this was a fun, light hearted read, which that subject matter might of taken the light heartedness out…
August is definitely a man to add to the hot book BF list! He’s perfected in all the ways he should be! And I cannot hype him enough!
Natalie on the other hand was a strong women who didn’t need no man. And there’s nothing I love more (as I’ve said before) than a women who doesn’t need a man, but can bring one to their knees!
I loved the character development as well as the general storyline, including August’s grief. And there’s definitely nothing more satisfying than a man who falls first, and falls hard 🥵😍
I can’t wait to get my hands of a hard copy of this book so I can read again and tab the hell out of it! (Colour coded of course!)
Thank you so much to NetGalley and Harper Collin’s Publishers Australia for allowing me the honour of reading this ARC, I loved every second!
**Thank you to NetGalley for this eARC. All thoughts are my own.**
I was so excited to delve into Natalie and August's story, seeing the small glimpse of them in Secretly Yours had me wanting to get my hands on this as fast as I could. Thankfully I got an Arc copy.
The premise of this story intrigued me: a marriage of convenience, enemies to lovers, all tropes I adore, but I feel this fell a little flat.
I loved August, who doesn't love a giant 6 foot 3 ex navy-seal turned wine entrepreneur?
He is definitely my type of guy, especially one who has past trauma and needs 'fixing'. I love a good man who needs help.
Natalie, I also liked her, from first meeting her in the previous book, I was excited to get to know her more through this story.
I feel that everything was rushed, and they both had trauma and issues that neither wanted to deal with truly.
Their attraction to one another was pretty instantaneous, and their feelings were a lot and fast, even when they tried to hide them from one another.
The storyline seemed very familiar to 'My Killer Vacation', and even though I was excited for that one too, it didn't live up to the hype I was hoping.
As I said in my review for the first book, sometimes Tessa is hit or miss with me, and this one was more of a miss.
Thank you Netgalley and HarperCollins Australia for this ARC. Available June 7th!
Main characters, Natalie and August, both with something to prove. August to open a winery in Napa, in honour of his friend and Natalie to gain back her career credibility after getting fired in New York.
What sets out to be a marriage of convenience turns into a fiery romance between the two.
Let me start by saying, this book was so much better than the first in this series. For one, I really liked the characters and I felt their development was written really well. I found myself laughing in certain places which i really enjoyed. Nice one TB!
Highly recommend.
Marriage of Convenience…..SAY LESS!
What a great fun read this was.
I really enjoyed this.
I adored the way this started. Marriage of convenience is always loads of fun to read and this was so much fun. I loved reading about this little romance blooming and how sweet they were. AND THAT EPILOGUE WAS EVERYTHING ✨
This book is for you if you love:
💜 Marriage of Convenience
💜 Enemies to Lovers
💜 Small town

💜 HE FALLS FIRST 👏🏼
💜 Humour
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 stars
A big thank you to Avon Books and Netgalley for an ARC of this book for my honest review.
Tessa Bailey is the gift that keeps on giving. She outdoes herself with every book!
She never misses with the witty banter, the incredible tension, the relatable FMC and to-die-for love interest that you can’t help but fall in love for. The writing is, as usual, very quick to draw you in and addictive.
I didn’t expect to love a main character more than I did with Brendan in It Happened One Summer but August takes the cake. August belongs on a throne, right along his Queen, Natalie.
I absolutely devoured this book, from the first page to the last. Actually the last page hit hard and days latter it is still with me. This forced proximity, enemy to lovers, marriage of convenience and story of where the man falls in love, hard, before the female had me at every page turn. This book can be read as a stand alone but it is a follow up to Secretly Yours (which I also loved!). Anything that Tessa Bailey writes I will read.
Thank you NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read this book. 5 Stars in my eyes.
Tessa Bailey has done it again.
This book had me smiling and swooning, and pulled on my heartstrings all at the same time. I can’t wait for the world to get to know Natalie and August.
We first met Natalie, the heiress of Vos Family Wines, in Secretly Yours (book one of A Vine Mess, by Tessa Bailey). Natalie had returned home to Napa Valley after life in New York got a little messy. She met August at a wine event and they hit it off, until she insulted his wine and threw it in his face. August is a retired Navy Seal and current vineyard owner. He knows nothing about making wine but he is determined to bring his friends dream to life.
Even though they hate each other, they both need each other to succeed. A quick marriage of convenience will do the trick, then they will be on their separate way. I loved that there was an actual wedding, instead of just going to the court house. I also loved that this story was dual POV so we could see Augusts reaction to Natalie walking down the isle.
The chemistry and spice was top tier, Tessa Bailey is so good at building heat and attraction. They were both really good at communicating their needs and feelings with each other. And the BANTER. Oh my gosh, the banter was so good.
This is hands down my favourite Tessa Bailey novel and one of my favourite reads this year.
Thank you to NetGalley and Avon for the chance to read and review an early copy of Unfortunately Yours. All thoughts are my own.
