I listen to true crime podcasts and I hear a lot about indigenous communities and of the women that go missing from there. I love how this book helps bring this to light for many others. I loved hearing about the Native American cultures and traditions.
I typically love a good age gap book but this one threw me off. I feel like when the MMC and the FMC first met it was just a half a day meet cute. Then they didn't see each other for 6 years?
All In All this book just didn't do it for me. It wasn't a bad book, it was just very slow in parts and the ending didn't make that much sense for me. The ending was definitely a cliffhanger and I want to know more, but I am not sure I'll pick up the second book.
KENNEDY! That cliffhanger.
The writing was so good. The story, amazing. The themes, oh my gosh.
This book deals with loss in such a way that spoke to me and the diversity was amazing. You can tell that Kennedy has a passion for writing and telling stories.
This will definitely not be my last Kennedy Ryan book.
Ahhh I’m sad I didn’t love this as much. I am a huge K. Ryan fan but I just didn’t love the story as much. I thought the MMC was lovely— but I just didn’t feel tied to the characters as I usually do in her other books.
Kennedy Ryan did a very great job with this book. I am amazed of the amount of research that went into this story. Its important that when authors are writing about a subject that they may not be as familiar or have cultural knowledge about, they do the work to gain the information and reach out to the parties that are. I loved that about Kennedy. I am glad that this story has brought awareness to the indengious people. I loved all of this and can't wait to read the next installment to this story.
Okay I am stuck with reviewing this book.
the begining is sooooooo good.
And finally a book with Indigenous American representation! I loved the research into some aspects that was done ..I was 100% into how they talked about the Missing and Murdered Indigenous People Crisis.
My heart felt all the feels but the rest of the story was odd.. It also felt she moved from this platform to minorities in power but no mention of how those people were going to help her initial cause , her culture, her people etc.
I wish the "romance"was skipped in book 1 it would have felt more authentic.
I am a huge fan of Kennedy Ryan so when I received the ARC from NetGalley, I was so excited. I loved that she did her research on Native Americans when deciding to write a story surrounding their culture and traditions. This book also made me aware of what is happening to women that go missing in their community so the topic is pretty relevant.
As for Nix and Maxim, I enjoyed how they meet again years later. I just really wish they were closer in age when they first met. It was something I just couldn't get past, even though they were both legal when they met again.
I liked that Maxim was willing to give up the family business to pursue his true passion which was climate change and was definitely a different direction than what his father wanted. He didn't rely on his family's name and was very passionate about founding his own path.
Kennedy Ryan is a great writer that knows how to get you emotionally involved with the characters. You hurt when they hurt, you cry when they cry and laugh when they laugh. Overall great read!
Thank you to NetGalley for this Arc in exchange for my honest review.
This was my first read by this author, and while her writing is good, I didn’t enjoy the style and I didn’t really enjoy the characters. It might be for others, but just wasn’t for me!
Hot!! I love Kennedy Ryan. Just a great sexy book with great sexy characters!
*Thank you @read_bloom for the #gifted copy in exchange for an honest review.*
Another amazing book by Kennedy Ryan. Political implications, cultural implications, hot MCs, this one has it all.
This book was just not for me. I did not believe the relationship or I just didn't want them together. This was my first book by this author and it's good to know that this might not be for me.
This book was engaging, had complex character dynamics and a riveting plot that kept me immersed in the story and needing to know more. I really liked how there were several time jumps. I thought that it added a unique depth and history to the characters, it showed the challenges that odds stacked against their relationship faced. The development of Lennix and Maxim's relationship did not disappoint, not to mention tension and the hot moments between them were great. Lennix was an amazing character. I loved reading from her perspective. She was such a strong, confident, and smart woman. She had strong values, a traumatic past, but she used all those things to fight for something to better the future. Maxim also had a complex family life and work. His perspective was so exciting going to these dangerous places. They were both diverse characters, but similar aspirations to change the world. The relationship had amazing chemistry, tension and so much growth. This book also touched on several important topics, climate, politics, and clean energy and I enjoyed how it was incorporated into the story and gave the book a more serious tone and really reflected real world issues. The way this book left off (gasp), I need to go pick up the next one right away, I need to know what's going to happen. I did not give this book a full five stars because there were some areas that did drag a little bit for me, but I would highly recommend reading this book.
I received this advanced ebook, via Netgalley. This review is my own honest opinion.
This was an okay read which follows two people meant to be for each other but comes from opposite worlds. I have to say that I liked this book and also didn’t enjoy it. Kennedy is a great writer but the style wasn’t for me. I enjoyed the storyline and the pacing but didn’t enjoy the timeline of this book. This book takes in the span of 10 years I believe and I just didn’t enjoy that for the characters. The book is written from both perspectives which I enjoyed.
Lennix hates the Cade family after what they did to her family. She was a likable character and though she had a physical development in the book, I wish readers got to experience it with her. Learning about her heritage was also amazing as there was so much I didn’t know. Maxim hates his father and doesn’t want to be part of the family name, supporting the good in the world. He was an okay character that I wish was better. He wasn’t book boyfriend material for me and I wish he was. There were many side characters in this book and I really enjoyed their involvement with the story like Lennix’s friends. The romance is an age gap, love at first sight, slow burn and a second chance with some steamy scenes. The romance was okay as I didn’t see much chemistry between the two since so many years would pass by when they would see each other again.
The ending didn’t make sense to me as in why it was written in the book. I didn’t think it was necessary and I wonder how it will go in the next book. This book is very political themes then I thought it would be which also lowered my liking. There were many parts of that I enjoyed in this book but some things I wish were written better. I will be reading the second book as I do believe it might get better.
*this book was sent to me by the publisher to give an honest review in return*
This was actually my first book by this particular author and it was good! It started off a bit slow but once it picked up I enjoyed it!
This book was a slow burn for me but I still really enjoyed the slow moments. I felt like from the start this book held my attention. The beautiful character development is my favorite. I believe both characters developed as individuals and as a couple. This story made me believe that it's truly never late in life to fall in love and follow the stars.
I enjoyed the political aspect of things, but I found the romance to be very insta lust and not very believable. I enjoyed the writing as Kennedy Ryan is a good author, but this might not have been the one for me.
In true Kennedy Ryan fashion, she completely blew me away with Lennix and Maxim's story. The writing on these pages is STELLAR. The storytelling is EVERYTHING. It is gripping, intense, dramatic perfection! And it touched me in the most beautiful way. #NetGalley
Thank you NetGalley for a free copy for review!
I love Kennedy Ryan, her books haven’t been available for me so when Bloom Books picked up this duet as a rerelease I coundnt wait to dive in.
Lennox and Maxim meet at a protest for his fathers pipe line and she a lot younger than him. Then they Re meet in Amsterdam as she’s on spring break and their romance is a wild ride.
The angst, longing, right person wrong time is phenomenal. Kennedy writes soul mates like no other. She really makes them work for it!
What a beautiful story. Loved the writing style. I have loved previous books from this author and this was as intriguing.
You can always count on Kennedy Ryan to fill your heart before she rips it out, but don’t worry, she’ll put it back together.
Rich boy, girl with a tragic past and trying to reconcile herself to her heritage. Wasn't sure of the age gap? A 4 hour meet cute and then 6 years later connection- this didn't sell me. The time passing in this book also was difficult to get into the romance and the story.
