I was excited for this book but in the end a bit disappointed. I was expecting more exciting or creative recipes. It seemed to be the same basics with the same toppings. Perhaps this was geared toward newer cooks, but then it lacked the basics of cooking. I am not quite sure what would be the target audience.

I just reviewed Smashed by Adam Walton; Brett Walton. #Smashed #NetGalley
[NetGalley URL] There are so many yummy burger recipes in this book. Not only beef burgers, but chicken burgers and wraps. There are also a lot of sauces to use on your burgers which takes the flavors to another level.

Smashed is a cookbook with many different recipes for super thin burgers or sandwiches. The authors even included some breakfast recipes! Dessert was the only thing missing There are tons of amazing photos included. I appreciated that the weight measurements are in metric along with imperial.

I plan to make at least a few of these recipes, and they sound like they could easily become favorites. The three I’m most excited to try are the taco smashed burger, the ultimate grilled cheese pressed sandwich, and the pressed breakfast burrito. They are not the only ones that made my stomach growl, but those three made it growl loudest!

I’d recommend this to any home cook that loves thin burgers with loads of flavor. The only possible special equipment one might need would be a griddle, but a large heavy skillet could be substituted, or a couple large spatulas to smash the meat or sandwich.

I was given a copy of this book for an honest review by Netgalley

Looking for a fun cookbook full of smashed burgers and sandwiches? Smashed: 60 Epic Smash Burgers and Sandwiches for Dinner, for Lunch, and Even for Breakfast―For Your Outdoor Griddle, Grill, or Skillet by identical twins and popular You Tubers, Adam and Brett Walton is one such book that will have your mouth watering.

Anyone who loves burgers will want to make almost every burger in this cookbook. While it also has chicken burgers, chicken sandwiches, and paninis. The introduction explains how to “smash” the meat and use it in delicious burgers and sandwiches. The authors have good imaginations, and have come up with sandwiches that will appeal to everyone. The recipes are written in the traditional manner with the ingredients listed first, followed by step-by-step instructions that are easy to follow and can be successfully made by both beginning and advanced cooks. Most of the recipes are fairly simple and easy. The notes preceding the recipes are helpful and also show the humor and personalities of the authors which makes the book fun to read even if you’re not presently cooking.

The cookbook includes beautiful, professional photographs of almost all of the recipes, making it difficult to decide which recipe to make. Sandwich lovers will be kept busy making yummy smashed dishes for months. This one is highly recommended and will be used often.

Special thanks to NetGalley for supplying a review copy of this book.

This a great burger cookbook with a wide variety. The only downfall is burgers are all about taste and presentation. If i cant see the burger i have no clue if i want to try it or what it should look like when its done vs a one pot meal. I would’ve preferred more photos for the recipes that had none.

Who doesn’t love a great burger or sandwich?! Smashed is filled with great recipes for burgers and other sandwiches! I’m excited to try the Surf and Turf Smash Burger, the Taco Smash Burger, the Pressed Chicken Street Quesadilla and many more! The photos were incredible and succeeded in making me incredibly hungry!

Do not read this book hungry! I did not think it would make me starving at 730am and now I’m ready to go to the store and make all the burgers!! Love all the different variations of a burger.

Adam and Brett were new to me, and this book was a Great introduction. I have since learned they have a YouTube channel, and I am going to add them watch list. I love a good burger, pressed sandwiches, and yummy desserts. This has it all! This book has so many new ideas for some old favorites, and I could not wait to dig in. I had to try the S’mores, and they were amazing! I also love the ideas for different kinds of sauces, especially since I am pretty picky about sauces. I also really like the fact I did not have to buy a bunch of new tools and equipment. I only had to rush out to buy the food I needed!

This is going to be my go-to for this summer!

Thank you to the author, publisher, and Netgalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Smash burgers are the new trend if cooking. You may be familiar with the Walton twins from their YouTube videos of smash burgers. This is their cookbook to take smash burgers to the next level. The only thing missing from this book is smellivision because I wish I could smell them on the grill. The pictures are beautiful enough to make your mouth water. There is a smash burger for every taste, and not include ground beef. You might like the smashed pastrami melt or even the chicken ceasar wrap. Whatever you chose to try you will not be disappointed.

The recipes were easy to follow with easy to locate ingredients, but not very unique. I expected a cookbook of cheeseburgers to have something new to learn or try, but this one was fairly basic with classic and very common flavor combinations available in many other (better) cookbooks. This would be a great gift for a casual griller or cook, and a good secondary purchase for libraries.

The perfect cookbook, I have so much envy that this is not on my cooking bookshelf in my kitchen. The book is beautiful and bright, the text is clear and the recipes are simple yet exciting. The problem I encountered was that it does not work well with the Netgalley app, it is not available in E-book format on the Kindle app, I would struggle to use this day to day in the format it is in, which is unfortunate as the content appeals to me.

I had never heard of Adam and Brett Walton before I downloaded Smashed: 60 Epic Smash Burgers and Sandwiches for Dinner, for Lunch, and Even for Breakfast – for Your Outdoor Griddle, Grill, or Skillet. They have an outdoor grilling YouTube channel called the Waltwins. I’ve watched a few of their most popular videos and they are fine. They are fine and so is their cookbook.

The bulk of the cookbook is beef burgers and I’m going to tell you a secret – anything you can do with ground beef you can also do with other ground meats. I bring this up because they have a robust selection of beef burgers and an anemic selection of chicken and pork burgers. It does a pretty good job of explaining how to make a basic smash burger and then it mostly riffs on toppings and size. The Molly Smash Burger is the most interesting burger in the book. The recipe comes from another YouTube grilling show, The Gallery Backyard BBQ.

And here’s where my real complaining begins – If you do not already know how to grill or cook, you still need to do further research or watch videos on their channel. Even if you do know, they include some directions that are either not explained or described incorrectly. For example, The Molly Smash Burger (named after a dog, not MDMA). The Molly is a stacked smash burger with griddled onions and cheese. The burger meat is rolled in brown sugar so the smashed patty will have a sweet, crispy crust. The recipe includes three ingredients that are used differently depending on if you read the book or watch the video on the original creator’s site.

2 teaspoons salt (to taste)

2 teaspoons pepper (to taste)

2 teaspoons garlic powder

When your edges start to brown, flip and season with the salt, pepper, and garlic powder.

This recipe is two smashed burger stacked on top of each other and makes one burger. If you follow the recipe as written, you are sprinkling a teaspoon of salt, pepper, and garlic powder on each patty. That is a lot. And even if you use less salt and pepper, because the directions say “to taste,” you are still directed to put a lot of garlic powder on each patty. That seemed odd, so I went to Tommy Scarano’s video. He seasons the onions with a pinch or two of a mixture of salt, pepper, and garlic. That’s a very different process and is going to give you a much more pleasant outcome than a layer of garlic powder on your burger patty.

In the intro to the Oklahoma Onion Smash Burger (I have a difference of opinion about how these should be made, but nobody asked me), they say that steaming the bun while the meat and onion cook makes a better burger, but then they don’t describe how to steam a bun. They do describe how to toast a bun. Because I looked it up, I know that steaming and toasting are two different things. Is this something you would know if you watched the Waltwins channel? I don’t know. I do know that you won’t learn how from this cookbook.

The authors clearly love their beef burgers. I do wish they had been more thorough in their explanations and directions, and more imaginative in their non beef recipes. Ok, I’m going to make one more complaint. The Texas BBQ Burger is just a burger with bbq sauce. Texas bbq is primarily about the smoke, not the sauce. So a smoked burger would have been more appropriate, or a pressed sandwich with smoked brisket. It’s not really important.

I received this as an advance reader copy from Quarto Publishing and NetGalley. My opinions are my own, freely and honestly given.

My family is a big fan of smash burgers and I was delighted to get a hold of this arc!

There is such a variety of dishes in this cookbook, beyond the usual burgers, that I was surprised! There's also a section on chicken, paninis and burritos, and breakfasts! There is also a great introduction at the beginning outling some of the basic necessities someone should have in their kitchen, from tools to spices.

Not only were the recipes clearly laid out and easy to follow, the commentary by the Walton brothers was a delight to read. The photographs by some of the recipes were gorgeous to look at, although I would have really appreciated it if every recipe had its own photo.

All of the recipes that I tried turned out well! The Pastrami Melt Smash Burger was a particular success!

Thanks to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group for this advance reader's copy!

The recipes in this book sounded so good and we definitely tried a couple of the ideas in it! I appreciated all the different ideas and modifications to a standard burger, wrap, or sandwich that I wouldn't necessarily think of on my own. Great flavor combinations and a variety of ingredients to entice even the pickiest eater. And the best part? They were all pretty easy to make and didn't require fancy equipment like many cookbooks do.

Thank you to NetGalley for an ARC of this cookbook! I can't wait to continue trying out all the different recipes they shared!

Really enjoyed this heart attack burger book! So obviously you won’t eat burgers every day but this was a great look at a type of burgers called smashed. Totally flat patty sometimes doubled, tripled or added to another meat but add some delicious veggies to offset the calories.

What did I like? Definitely looked delicious! The only negative was a few pictures seemed to be replicated or the same. Not sure if it was a typo. Plus let’s be honest… they snuck in one vegan burger in the whole book with no reason why. Trying to make the book for everyone.

Would I recommend or buy? Yes. Despite four stars the burgers looked amazing. Should be a warning tag to only eat burgers in moderation. Joking! Four stars!

I received a complimentary copy to read and voluntarily left a review!

Adam Walton and Brett Walton had me drawn in with the cover SMASHED. I love many things, and burgers are right up at the top of the list. The authors tempted my tastebuds and tummy with the delicious recipes SMASHED between the covers of their tasty book.

This is a great cookbook for anyone - families, singles, accomplished or beginner cooks. Every combination looks more delicious than the next. I just wish there were a mouth drooling picture for every entry. You may wonder why you would need a cookbook dedicated to burgers, but one glance through and you’ll know why. Makes you envision a week’s menu of nothing but smashburgers. It’s a fun cookbook.
