"We knew that if you simply SMASHED EVERYTHING, there'd be something for everyone to enjoy!" This from the books introduction seems to be the main concept of this wonderful cookbook.
It has a plethora of variations on the popular Smash Burger but goes beyond that with burritos, panini and wraps, with lots of drool-worthy pictures.
The Walton twins give advise on tools and tips you will need to make the best smashed foods to feed yourself and impress others.
I received this ARC from Quarto Publishing Group – Harvard Common Press and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review, thank you so much.

This is a fun cookbook for making smashed burgers. About 2/3 of the book are variations of smashed burgers and the rest are smashed chicken burgers, wraps, breakfasts and such. There are photos of about half of the recipes. No nutritional information is provided. Some recipes are given for various sauces. It’s not well suited for people with special dietary needs other than a token recipe or two.
The elephant in the room is that most of these are incredibly unhealthy. The authors are twin men in their thirties whose family apparently loved these kinds of recipes and from the way they talk, they’ve already lost both parents. I speak as someone who’s lost a lot of loved ones too soon from diseases like diabetes and heart disease. Perhaps it’s time to stop being quite so preoccupied as a society with fixating on tasty but harmful foods. Just because you can make a smashed bacon cheeseburger with glazed donuts as the bun doesn’t mean you should.
That said, it’s a well done cookbook and the smashing technique is well explained.
I read a temporary digital review copy of this book via NetGalley.
The cookbook Smashed caught my eye as I've seen more online about cooking burgers on a flattop vs grilling and we recently just bought a flattop to go on our grill. The book contains only 60 recipes (the ebook was only 146 pages long) and the majority are a variation of the basic smash burger recipe they have, with each new recipe only having variations in toppings, sauces, cheese varieties or buns. The remainder of the recipes were for basic grilled/deli sandwiches, wraps and chicken sandwiches (which were similar to the beef burgers but chicken). This might be a very good choice for a very beginner cook, but a more experienced, creative cook will already know how to change up toppings/sauces/buns/cheese on a basic burger and might not find this cookbook as useful. . The pictures were wonderful as were the explanations for how to do the "SMASH" on the flattop.
Who doesn't love a burger!
Wow this fantastic book has so much choice for beef burgers, chicken burgers, wraps sandwiches and even breakfast ideas.
I cannot wait to try the bacon guacamole smash burger and the copycat big mac.
This will make you so hungry and craving for a big fat juicy burger.
You should never look at a cookbook when you're hungry…
I'm so overwhelmed because I want one of everything!
Surf & Turf Burger? Yep, please!
Peanut Butter Burger? Weirdly intrigued!
Monte Cristo? Yes, yes, and yes!
And, yes, I'm aware the last one isn't a burger, tho it could be. Can we put in a request for the next cookbook?
But the beauty of this particular book is that it takes you on an adventure with several classic sandwich recipes added in.
If you're a fan of bread concoctions, this is the cookbook for you.
This book had some great recipes! My husband and I can never turn down a god burger. We often make our own. This is the perfect book to explore more options with burgers. I can't wait to try some of these recipes!
Perfect for those that like:

This is a great and unconventional collection of smashed burgers, sandwiches, paninis and pressed wraps. The combination tend to be fun and interesting, if not unconventional at times. Bacon and peanut butter don't really sound like an appetizing mix but to each their own. Otherwise, these are great meal ideas and there is even a section for breakfast recipes. It is an enjoyable collection of recipes.
This book is right up my street!!
The photography in this book is spot on! Makes every item of food look amazing, and makes me want to eat it! There is not one dudd in here. I just wish there was more photography... ideally for each burger/sandwich mentioned.
I thought the 'copycat' sauce idea was brilliant, and although i haven't yet tried it myself I can't wait to try the big mac version!
Really great ideas in here!
I received a copy of this book through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This is a nice recipe book with some good pictures. There's a variety o recipes including breakfast burgers, chicken burgers, and sides. There's information on cooking and assembling your burger with a lot of different options. It's a fun book for all things burger!
Delish hamburgers that are classic, fresh, unique, original, and some instant favorites. Awesome book to keep handy for summer.
What more can I say than yummmmmmmm.?
Great recipes for my favourite food and the cheesier the better. So. Many. Choices. And not just burgers, many sandwiches are involved. This book would make Joey Tribianni proud and his tummy full.
Delicious copy cats that are doable and so yummy! I have always been a little worried to attempt these because they seem overwhelming. But these made it so easy and had delicious alternatives and different recipes, for every meal, including breakfast!~
I started salivating just thinking about this book. And then I saw the pictures and was suddenly starving. There are some really interesting recipes in here. The first ones I'm going to try are the Asian-inspired Smash Burger and the pressed chicken street quesadilla.
Also, some really useful tips throughout such as cleaning the griddle.
I'm hungry...
Thanks to NetGalley and the Walton's for the ARC!
Smash burgers are all the rage right now. I've been hearing about them everywhere but didn't know what they were. This book does a good job of explaining the basics and I love when a cookbook provides necessary tools and pantry staples. I personally don't eat meat but can easily adapt these recipes using a non meat alternative. I especially liked the surf n turf burger. I think I will have to try that one. Such an interesting combo. I love that the book has lots of photos as well.
Unhappily the urger portion of the book is rather a one-trick pony. Every burger and chicken recipe has the same instructions for grilling the bus and for cooking the burgers or chicken. As if this weren't bad enough, too many of the recipes use the same toppings (lettuce and tomato) and cheese (American). This book is a perfect example of the adage that just because you can doesn't mean you should.
Warning! Reading this book will make you every hungry! Each recipe sounded yummier than the last. I enjoyed seeing the photos of the smashed burgers throughout the book. I cannot wait to start trying to make a few of these recipes. This book is a must have for any burger lover in your life!
This cookbook has a great selection of recipes with ingredients that are easy to find. Filled with mouthwatering pictures
Thank you to Adam Walton; Brett Walton, NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group – Harvard Common Press for the arc of this book
Smash burgers are definitely enjoying a 'moment' currently and it's trend I can get behind, especially with all of the variety and delicious recipes in Smashed! I like the inclusion of classics to quirky twist, that will give a recipe for everyone. It's helpful to have the equipment list at the start as I definitely will need some of these to cook these dishes perfectly. I can't wait to make the Hawaiian teriyaki burger for sure!
WOW! That was my first thought when I received this book.
I didn’t know that there were so many ways/recipes for making burgers! I’m definitely trying some recipes asap!
This would be a perfect gift for my loved one.
Thank you Quarto Publishing Group, the author and Netgalley for providing me with this copy. All opinions are my own.
I never knew you could make burgers so many different ways! Cannot wait for summer to roll around so we can do some grilling and try more of these recipes!
Amazing pictures! Great Instructions! Wonderful ideas!
